Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)
Accidentally brilliant
This is hands down one of the worst films that has ever been made. And that's exactly what makes it so good to watch. It's so bad its good. Here is what happens in Resident Evil Retribution: You will have no idea whats going on throughout the entire movie. There are bizarre plot lines all over the place that have no relevance. Characters appear, die, come back, die again, good guy, bad guy, good guy again, die again(you get the idea). The casting director could have used a cardboard cut out of Ava Wong and it would have had more personality. They're in a soviet submarine base under the ice in Russia. There's a deaf kid. The acting is so crap it's hilarious. Zombies (Nazi zombies no less) can now ride bikes and drive cars. Leon S Kennedy is in it with no reference to why he's there or who he is. Look Barry Burton is here too with his magnum and cigar! Everything blows up. The guns never run out of ammunition. Confused yet? Good. That's the idea. There are really hot chicks in skin tight leather kicking each other. Hooray! Where did Claire et al. on the ship at the end of the last film go? Who cares! Oh look now Alice and Jill are friends again and they're in the White House....with Wesker in it! And there is one mother of a zombie horde outside....cue RE6.
Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)
Uninspiring and dull
If watching actors walk around rooms filled with dry ice and people with lots of makeup on screaming at them is your thing then this movie should be right up your street.
The acting is substandard. The plot line confused and boring. The special effects laughable. This franchise should have been left with only one film, as unfortunately there just isn't enough material to make a compelling sequel. The original film, whilst a bit silly in parts, did manage to conjure up some good scares and jumps, whereas this attempt just lacked any kind of entertainment whatsoever.
Lets just pray there isn't going to be a part 3.
The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia (2013)
Terrible, terrible, terrible.
Firstly, why this is called The Haunting in Connecticut 2 is a mystery as it has nothing whatsoever to do with the first movie.
If you want a scary ghost story, steer well clear of this mess. A ghost pops up within about 2 mins of the opening and then throughout the entire film....constant....relentless flickering ghosts, shot for some reason in sepia. It wasn't enough to have one person who can see these "ghosts" either. No, we are treated to all three lead female characters having persistent visions for the entire 1hr 40mins.
To claim this is based on a true story is almost insulting. To start with the "true" Wyrick story is a typical kid sees ghost affair, not particularly chilling (or true for that matter). By the end of this film it's nothing more than a ridiculous monster flick, with the character played by Abigail Spencer running and squealing around a standard creepy cellar filled with (shock horror) all manner of taxidermy and about 20 ghosts in tow.
The concept of the underground slave railroad run by the evil taxidermist station master is a baffling plot line, which completely ruined the film. God knows what they were thinking.
The acting from the little girl, Emily Alyn Lind is about the only redeeming feature. Chad Michael Murray was completely pointless, giving an unconvincing and lacklustre performance. The rest of the cast were okay, nothing spectacular, and of course 90% of the cast were mute ghostly types who just stand about in corners, looking over people's shoulders with a pained expression, and pointing into the woods.
AVOID.
