ID2: Shadwell Army (2016)
Lazy and Lame
Have the writers ever even seen a football hooligan? There's no way they'd be seen dead in any of the clobber these folk are wearing. The first film had the same issue but at least with that one it had a good story to follow. And there aren't any real people that act like these Morons. It was like they couldn't be arsed writing it so done it in a hurry.
Chernobyl (2021)
Just hurry up and end!
Those were my thoughts in the last 40 minutes. This film fails at making any sort of drama, or tension, and you can see clearly where they're trying. Laughed a little bit at some points. And how can they make it so really really boring? So, clearly I'm not a fan at all.
Girls with Balls (2018)
The Best Kind of Nonsense
I liked this. It's absolute nonsense but I was cool with it, and you should be too.
It's a fine line to get the blend of good parody and the right humour and this was spot on.
One scene though, the one with the dog, that seemed really unnecessary, just threw in there out of nowhere. Anywau, i laughed out loud a good few times so here's to that.
A Ghost Story (2017)
Official 'Mosco Mgazine' Review
I'll start off by admitting that I put this film on whilst in bed fully expecting to fall asleep. It starts off with minimal dialogue and a nice sombre feeling so I thought sleep was beckoning but as it turned out, it was really captivating, and I ended up watching it twice in a row.
The film takes on the lesser tackled subject of the unfathomable grief and loneliness of a ghost. It really does, and it does it well.
You'll surely know the basic synopsis so I won't waste time with that and just tell you that you really feel for this ghost. The motion and actions of the ghost are so well done that you almost see facial expressions and emotion on a white bed sheet with holes in it.
The mundanity of being a ghost too, it's something I hadn't before considered. Cutting about your own house, grieving for the life you've lost with absolutely nothing you can do about it. The sparse dialogue really gives you time to think about the emotions of the characters too which I thought was really cool.
I've saw loads of brutal reviews of this, and I can kind of get why some would say it's boring but this is superior, intellectual film making and I'd recommend this a lot.
6 Underground (2019)
Mediocre at Best
You could say this is a good action movie as it has some moments of good action but it could have done with a character that you cared about. It's okay in a mindless fun sort of way but in reality it's a clichéd mess.
El secreto de sus ojos (2009)
Top Drawer Cinema
This really is an absolutely marvellous film. It really blew me away. A retired legal counsellor Benjamin Esposito (Ricardo Darin) wants to write a book about a case he investigated 25 years ago. The case was a brutal rape and murder of a young girl and it still plays on his mind after all that time. He struggles to get it started so visits his former boss Irene Menendez Hastings (Soledad Villamil) to discuss it as she was also his superior at the time and the two have a close relationship. The film then moves back and forward from the case at the time to the present day as the story, along with each of the personal journeys of Esposito, Hastings and the grieving husband Ricardo Morales (Pablo Rago) are slowly revealed. The two main characters have superb chemistry, the film has some amazing shots and scenes, particularly one at a football match which is really exciting and there are some great characters including the quite hilarious assistant of Esposito, Pablo, played by Argentinian comic actor Guillermo Francella, who has a great way of answering his phone. It's a great story, well written, no scenes are wasted, and there's a quirky side tale of the missing letter 'A' which is really cool. Do not miss this one whatever you do. Absolutely first rate in every way.
The Damned United (2009)
Bit of a let down
You'll know about this one, Brian Clough and all that, based on the book of the same name which is about Brian Cloughs 44 days in charge of Leeds Utd' in 1974. The thing is though, that the film isn't really about that, or it vaguely is with flashbacks of his time with Derby County and his rivalry at that time with Leeds Utd and their manager Don Revie. It was quite enjoyable to watch, but it wasn't great. It missed out tons of the book. A lot of the book is written as if it's Cloughs thoughts which is hard to get across in the film I suppose but even with the Leeds job, the book is so much more detailed. It's like there was no point in making the film and calling it 'The Damned Utd' it'd have been better making a movie of the whole life of Brian Clough instead. There were a few other issues preventing it from being the same. Leeds captain at the time Billy Bremner is very prominent in the book but that's been toned down severely as Leeds Utd were conscious not to tarnish his name with the film as they have a statue of him outside the stadium. The other is Cloughs family who weren't happy with the book as it was 'fiction based on fact' and they claimed readers would not know which bits were fiction and which bits were fact, so I'm sure that contributed to a lot of stuff being left out the movie. But, the chap playing Clough does well, so does Timothy Spall who plays his friend and most of the time his assistant Peter Taylor. Stephen Graham as Bremner, that had way more legs that the film gave it. So...
