Interesting little film
15 June 2009
I just saw this movie on Showtime last night and found it interesting (not good or bad, just interesting). I became a fan of Elizabeth Rohm from watching endless reruns of Law and Order on TNT. So when I read that she was starring in this movie I had to see it. Rohm, I thought, gave a very good performance of a woman hanging on to her sanity. Was she seeing ghosts or was it all in her mind. The rest of the cast should have taken acting lessons, or just watch Rohm and they would have gotten it right. Roma Maffia is a better actress (see Nip/Tuck) than her performance in this movie. Overall, if you have nothing else to do watch this just for Rohm's acting. I hope producers will use her talents wisely in the future and not let her just fade away like many other good, now forgotten, actors have.

Year of the Dog (I) (2007)

Who let this DOG out!!!
20 May 2007
I recently went to see this "dog" of a movie and I found it to be very slow moving and even boring at times. I guess when you see the trailer for this film you are expecting a little romantic comedy, when actually the film is about obsession with a tiny little bit of romance thrown in. Being that this film was from the writer of School of Rock, Chuck & Buck and The Good Girl, (all three excellent films within themselves), you would expect Year of the Dog to follow suit. Problem is, it doesn't. The last film Mike White did was the horrid Nacho Libre, so he may be starting his downward trend of making bad Hollywood films. Molly Shannon on the other hand was brilliant. She tries very hard to breathe life into her poorly written and confused character Peggy. It's to bad that Hollywood hasn't embraced her talents instead of wasting them. If you do want to see this film, wait till it comes to the Dollar movie house or try and get it on a two for one rental at your local video rental store.

The Dumbing Down of Film Viewers
17 September 2006
This (waste of) film is so bad it's not even worth commenting on. I wasted money on this trash cause I had some hope that it might actually be worth seeing, given the fact that the beautiful and talented Amy Smart was co-starring. suffice to say I thought "Domino" was one of the worst movies recently made until I saw this piece of s**t. Domino is a masterpiece compared to this film.

The scene in Chinatown, don't worry I won't give away the plot point here, (not that there is any plot to give away), is by far the most ridiculous scene I had ever seen. Oh, and that ending, I didn't know helicopters could climb that high in a matter of seconds. If you saw the film you know what I mean.

When will Hollywood wake up and realize all their so called creative talent has left the building.

A Return of the Classic Western
20 August 2003
I recently went to see Costner's new western pic Open Range and came away from the film thinking they finally made a good western. The film opens slow but slowly builds up the pace to the final climax of the "Good Guys" vs. the "Bad Guys". As I watched the film I had to give the writer credit for watching the Old Time westerns that starred the likes of Randolph Scott, Joel McCrea and of course the Duke, John Wayne. If you have ever watched any of these actors westerns then you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't then, well, you missed some good old fashion westerns as well as the point of this film. My hats off to Costner for not doing the typical ADD (Attention Deficiet Disorder) way of filmmaking by having action sequences every five minutes. The story took it's time in telling, not only with the pacing but with the characters as well. So, if you want to see a good "Old Fashioned" western then I recommend this film.

The next Kevin Smith
12 February 2003
I recently saw this comic gem about two goofball wanna be rock stars. It has comedy working on different levels from romantic comedy to down right silly slapstick comedy. Bo Linton who wrote, stars, directed and edited had a lot of pans in the oven and may have bitten off a little more than he could chew. I like the idea of Ronny and his friend acting like rock stars just to scam on women. The idea being they find seven different women all around the LA area so they have a place to crash, eat and at times have sex for a week before they had to "go on the road with the band" then move on to the next woman. I like the part where Ronny keeps calling his Firebird a Camaro beacause of a few Camaro parts on the car. I believe Mr. Linton has a keen eye for slapstick comedy. You just never know, he might end up being the next Kevin Smith. Oh yeah, look for the scene in the video store, you just might recognize a certain video store clerk

The Trailer gives the movie away
3 February 2003
Why is it that everytime the idoits behind putting out the trailer have to give the plot twist of the movie away. Do they believe that the movie going audience has a 50 I.Q.! Maybe the Hollywood people have the low I.Q.'s. I saw this film and was disappointed that I already knew what was going to happen. The movie itself is not bad, but it lacks. It starts out good but by the end you can see where the Hollywood executives but there 2 cents in and add the formula ending. Al Pacino's character is a slimely government type that you hope is playing for our side against our enemies and not the other way around. The problem here is that if you saw the trailer, you know the answer to his character. Collin Farrell on the other hand kept the movie afloat with his chacter trying desperately to find out what happened to his father at any cost. Overall The Recruit is not a bad movie, but it's not a "good" movie either. If you can wait for DVD you would be money ahead.

Has Hollywood infested the Irish filmakers?
18 January 2003
Ordinary Decent Criminal has just been released on video out here in the States and I was saddend to see that Hollywood's influence has sucked the orginality out of Irish filmakers. I was ready to sit down and watch one of my favorite actor's, Kevin Spacey, in this movie, when 10 mins into the film I realized I was watching a bloody remake of "The General", which starred Jon Voight and Breandon Gleeason. At first it was hard to swallow the Irish accents, but I got used to it. I stayed with the movie noticing differnt changes from the other great movie,The General, but I was pleasantly surpised that the movie turned out to be really good. Of course I felt that Linda Fiorentino was totally wasted in the part of Spacey's wife, and poor Collin Farrell, if he was in the movie more than 5 mintues that would be something. Overall I'd say the film was watchable. Spacey is good and there are soild peformaces from the rest of the irish cast. If you haven't seen "The General" I suggest you see that film, then watch this fim just to enjoy Spacey doing what he does best, ACTING.

Hollywood does it's best to rip-off other films
8 January 2003
Do not waste your time renting this awful movie at your local video store. Hollywood is doing nothing less than ripping off the movie Fatal Attraction. The screenwriters have done nothing but watch Fatal Atrraction and then wrote this junk changing the plot line from 40 somethings to high schoolers (now there's a clever plot twist). The acting in this film is bad and not believiable at all. The Lead actress, played by Erika Christensen, acts as she did this just to be seen so producers won't forget her. And her co-star, Jesse Bradford, has done better work. Do yourself a favor and rent Fatal Attraction to see what real filmmaking is about.
