WWF Greatest Matches (1986)
Match listing
Hulk Hogan vs. Paul Orndorff - Hogan retains via pin-fall off a reversal of a flying body press from Orndorff.
Tito Santana vs. Randy Savage 2/8/86
Bob Backlund vs. The Iron Sheik 12/26/83
Greg Valentine/Brutis Beefcake vs. Hillbilly Jim/Uncle Elmer
Short tape but that makes for better quality. Two title defenses on this match and Two different title switches on this tape. The Machoman Randy Savage defeats Tito Santana to win his first and only intercontinental title. The Tag Team match between The Dream Team & the country boys is pretty much garbage. 5 out of 10.
Jersey Girl (2004)
WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!
It is so sad for me to see that this movie lost so much money at the box office. The whole "Gigli", Beniffer garbage made no one go see this movie, and for everyone who didn't see it, your missing out.
The movie is about this guy Allie(Ben Affleck) who has this great job working as a publicist for a music company. He meets this girl, (Jennifer Lopez, don't worry she's not in it for long) they fall in love, get married and she gets pregnant. Then dies in child birth. (I'm pretty sure thats not a spoiler, cause it happens in the first 15 minutes. Allie, is heartbroken, and doesn't know how to deal with this loss, so he basically throws the baby onto his dad(George Carlin) so he can work non-stop. Then in a really funny scene he is forced by his dad to bring the baby to work during a big press conference for Will Smith(the earlier part of the movie takes place in 1994) who is doing his first major motion picture. Allie freaks out under the pressure, yells at all the media people, and basically says he doesn't understand why anyone cares so much about "The Fresh Prince." He is fired on the spot and of course Will Smith becomes a huge star.
We fast forward six years, Allie is back living with his dad in New Jersey and working for the town. He meets Liv Tyler who tries to bring him out of the shell he's been in since his wife died and he learns a bunch of lessons.
Now I know I made it seem like a predictable romantic comedy. But, well that's what it is. That's what is so good about it. We all love formula every once in awhile and this is a formula picture at it's best.
The comments on the front page said that Kevin Smith started off good and worked his way down until this movie. I only disagree in the fact that I think "Chasing Amy' was his best picture. But other then that his stuff has gone down somewhat. "Dogma' and "Silent Bob and Jay Strike Back" are OK movies as is "Mallrats" but none of those are close to as good as "Clerks" and "Chasing Amy" This is his first movie in a long time that is on level with those two. This is a funny, good hearted, well acted, film. And unlike most of his movies, it actually looks good, because he got a real cinematographer for it.
I know some of Smith's fans were upset that he went away from his stoner, penis and fart joke humor. No Silent Bob or Jay in this one. Plus its a PG-13 movie. This takes nothing away from this movie in my book. There is still some pretty dirty jokes, and the same humor you find in all Smith's movies. But with the lower rating it opens a Smith film to a much wider audience.
Of course they gave him 35 million to make this movie and it only made 9 million in the box office. So unless it does insane business on DVD, I doubt anyone will give him that kind of money again.
Les filles ne savent pas nager (2000)
Oh gosh
This movie was doing so well. But the ending just killed it dead.
Basically the story is about these two teenage girls that are summer friends. But the summer the movie takes place in, the one girl Lise can't make it cause of family issues. Or money or something like that. The other girl, Gwen's parents are also having family issues. Money and the such. Her dad is lazy, blah blah blah. during this summer apart Gwen is growing up, getting with boys, smoking, etc, etc.
Everything to this point is fine and dandy. I was enjoying the build of the characters and I like how European films are so much more open then American films. But in anycase all that is ruined by the stupid and pointless ending.
(Spoiler alert!!) Lise finally makes it down to the beach house to stay with Gwen. All is well with the world for about 10 minutes. Then Gwen and her boyfriend are having sex with Lise in the room, so Lise trys to join in. It is implied a lot during the movie that this friendship IS deeper or can be deeper then just two friends. But at this point you see that Gwen is not interested. She slaps Lise, and the movie losses all sense from that point on. Not because Gwen is upset, but where the filmmakers go from there. They fight, they hate each other, Gwen wants Lise to leave. And instead of just having her leave, or even having them talk about it, they decide to go and have Lise start making out with Gwen's dad(why in every movie about teenage girls do the dads and older men all have to be sexual demons)Gwen's dad is into it until he gets her top off and realizes he shouldn't be doing this.("OHHH, now you realize it, moron") Lise is upset, and does what ever 15 year old girl does when she gets rejected by her best friends dad. She pushes him down the stairs and kills him. Then Gwen comes home finds the body, and Lise runs away. Credits role.
I have no idea what the point of that ending was. What they were trying to say. But it killed a pretty good and open effort on the lives of two teenage girls. Far more open and realistic then most Hollywood fodder. But that ending was just so stupid.
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
what i think
Its hard to really say if this is a good movie or not. First of all it depends on if you are Christian. I do not think that there is anything in this movie for nonechristians. This is not a movie that will change anyones feelings on religion if they are not apart of it already. This may help some rediscover their faith, but it is not indepth enough to make anyone understand what Jesus was about. I really think the problems in this being just a good movie or just a good religious movie are one in the same. Though the movie looks good, it is well shot, the acting is well done, and the music is also top notch, thats the most you can say for it. The story is not told well. In fact, I cant really say there is a story. There is no character development. I didnt know who was who half the time. For someone that doesnt know the New Testment(which I know a little about, but am nowhere near a scholar on) it will be very confusing who is who. I went to this movie, hoping it would help explain the story of Jesus for me, fill me in on what i didnt know. This movie does not do that. I can see why Jews would be offended by it, though I think they get cared away. Gibson says he takes this story staight from the scriptures. Now the question might be, not if he does that, but if the scriptures are historically correct. This is the problem with these kinds of movies. It takes a person like Mel Gibson. Who could be classifed as a religious fanatic to make a movie like this. But when you have a person like that making a movie like this, its bascially them saying "This is the way it was, you either agree or you will suffer." There is a line in the movie where Jesus says something towards the lines of you follow me or your going to hell. Now I'm sure there are things like that in the bible but its things like this that offend me more then how the Jews are protrayed. Cause I really cant see what Gibsons point is in making the film expect to shun anyone that is against what he believes. Now to me that kind of attitude is negative for the film, negative for Hollywood and goes against what Jesus was trying to teach. Which brings me to another thing. There is really nothing in the lines of showing what Jesus taught. The whole movie is really just Jesus being beating to a bloody pulp. There are a few short scenes of Jesus with the disiples, Jesus with his mom, and Jesus with Mary of Magdalen(I probably spelled that wrong). And that is it. The rest is sheer and utter torture. Now I have seen some violent movies in my day, but this is up there. Not just for what is going on, but for how long it goes on. How the camera almost relishes in the violence. Close ups of flesh being ripped off, and blood flowing in buckets. I cant imagine what this must seem like to those who do not know this story or do not have an intrest in Jesus. It must just be pointless violence. And there is nothing in this movie to tell you what exactly Jesus was about or why anyone cared he was killed. If you have ever seen the movie Irreversible, and you remember the rape scene. Think of that but put more blood and extend if for about an hour and half. Thats pretty much what this movie is. I kept waiting for the glorious, and uplifting scene to make all this worthwhile. The resurection, something, anything. But it never came. It just kept going and going, and getting more gory. Now after saying all this, I cant really say this is a bad movie. It does what I think can be the only thing Gibson is shooting for. To show you how much Jesus truly suffered phyiscaly, for our sins. And it does that. Cause you will suffer along with him. Even, I, who has laughed at violence in other movies, cringed at this one. I think I'm most upset that it wasnt the movie that I was hoping for.It didnt teach me anything. It didnt show what was really so great about Jesus. It didnt help bring others into the faith. So if your a Christian, I say see this movie, but be prepared for some violence. Maybe it will help you rediscover what you lost in being a Christian. If your not a Christian, I'm not saying to stay away from the movie, but I really dont think you'll enjoy it. Without any really redeeming qualites or characters, plus with a very empty script, I cant see this being very entertaining for you.
