Shinel
This is an unfinished movie
"Shinel" is an unfinished movie. Therefore there should be no reviews yet, although it is an unfinished masterpiece for sure. I was wondering if the crazy 1 star "reviews" have anything to do with the war in Ukraine. If so then please know that Yuri Norstein and many other Russian animators signed a protest against it. You can find it online if you look for 'Yuri Norstein Ukraine' for instance,
Terrifier (2016)
One of the worst movies I have ever seen, maybe the worst
This movie was a waste of my time. There was nothing remotely interesting about it. It was like a hollowness trying to stab itself. It was like watching nothing with a lot of blood on it. Meaningless, pointless, plotless movie with no personality. To think money has been spent to make this is just sad. There is no story, no revelation of anything, no interesting dialogue, no motif for anything, just violence and blood, violence and blood and some more violence and blood. If time itself could, I think it would kill this movie, so it could not waste time. Nonsensical blah movie. Watch literally any other movie and you will have a better experience. Seriously.
Winter Passing (2005)
Return
I have returned to this movie once in a while through the years since it was made and it never disappoints. In fact I find it improves on every view. It is a nuanced, tender, desperate movie with the courage of not trying to impress. A lesser movie would tell this story in a more dramatic, overly self-conscious way. "Winter Passing" dares to be on a certain edge of subtle humour, sadness, hardness and tenderness in a brilliant mix. It is a very human movie about empathy, fear, hidden emotions and therefore numbness and the necessity of being humble towards a way back, which is a way directly linked with being there instead of being absent-minded. Every actor and actress in the movie is brilliant. I cannot imagine anyone else playing the characters now. They inhabit the story so truthfully. A movie I will watch again sometime in the future and, once again, enjoy the layers and one more time be moved by its nuanced tenderness. Heartily recommended movie which does not deserve all the bad reviews at all, in my opinion.
The Witching (2016)
Entertaining and fun
I think the bad reviews are unfair to this movie. The actors and actresses are fine. They are realistic, absent-minded in a way (as people often are) and not once did I think anyone was posing or playing a role. It is a movie which is almost cartoonish in parts, which is pure fun and the stories are imaginative snippets to be enjoyed. I was entertained in a good way.
Twin Peaks: The Return (2017)
I do not review unseen material, do you?
Well, with 1/3 seen it should be obvious that it is still impossible to review. Maybe I will come back to doing so when it has all been seen. Until then I will look at every review as some kind of prejudice involving invisible material and guesswork and all kinds of other things getting more and more surprised about WHY everyone would feel the need to say something at this time. I do not watch 1/3 of any other movie and review it. Do you? If so I am curious as to why?
