Women Talking (2022)

Brava!
26 May 2024
How many times do we question about the world's rules? This film will confront you just against the wall.

It's not easy to face the things that we use to do, based in men power, men voice, men action, men judge, men disposition, men over women validated structure. Why? Because men don't want to be unprivileged... Like women are.

Yes, this kind of conservative community is always pointed due to its own norma, but open your eyes and notice how often do you repeat the manly order?

Wow! I loved the film... I cannot stop crying, thinking about other unequal communities like migrants, LGBTQ+, children or any other.

If you are bold to face and to question, yes... It's a film for you... For the change we all need.

Overrated!!! Keep away
10 February 2024
Two heads think better than one. No.

This is an exception.

I was expecting so much from this film, considering the previous comments from the audience... What did they see that I haven't?

It's a boring movie, storytelling the same story once again... Worst than Scary movie! Can you believe it?

The script and direction came from a pair of film makers (I don't care their names) who have had serious problems conducting the story... Big mistakes, huge!

Sometimes the actors are dumbs to the edge of the hilariousness.

I'm deeply concerned about this film because people can think this is good cinema, not being, and the consequence of that is the decreasing of quality in horror movies.

So sad!

Canada's Drag Race (2020– )

I wanted more in seasons 3
12 November 2023
I have been following every single episode of the Drag race saga since season one in America, then in UK, then in Down Under, and then in Canada.

Oooh! I had so many expectations with Brooke Lynn Hytes as the leading judge. She is always spectacular.

In seasons 1, Jeffrey BC was a fake, sour and tastless host and I was very happy not watching him latter.

Buuut!!! What a horrendous season three! I haven't finished, I don't know who's the winner but every episode I've seen so far I've been disappointed because the talented ones are not going forward. The judges have been sooo polite letting slay some of the queens just to justify an "equality environment with inclusion". Literally Jada wasn't the best but her colour skin saved her once and many times... Kimmy was repetitive and her trans speech saved her once and many times.

I'll see who's going to be the winner but I visualize myself yelling at the Tele.

I could stop watching

Wow! This is a Latinamerican great realize. Maybe it's not a new story about teenagers falling in love and boys getting into troubles. But the story is continuously funny, unspected, lovely, and specially spontaneous.

Every character has been created like a real picture of a teenager. And everyone has been acted naturally and charmingly. Camilo is my favourite, obviously. What a plausible performance of Emmanuel Restrepo. Every body posture, every voice tone, every blinking was in the right moment, in the right line.

Congratulations for an amazing production recreating retro scenarios, bringing back fashion designs, automobiles, even social rules that today are questioned.

Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

PS I want one or tow seasons more.

Extra-ordinary!!!
4 June 2023
There are tons and tons of films predictibles, borings and with bad directions and worst scripts. Why are they not like this one???

I have many good adjectives to rate it... Intelligent, creative, unique, surprising, different, unspected, artistic, ingenious, hilarious, malicious, powerful, significant, defiant.

This is not for everyone. You must have this kind of dark humour to laugh and enjoy. Again, this is not for everyone.

You will not know in the beginning what is that about. A drama? A thriller? A comedy? A critique? Maybe is all that in different points of the story. But you will not be disappointed. I'm quiet sure!

Don't believe in the good reviews... This is planned and boring.
3 June 2023
How many time have you had this kind of story? Wanting to be inspiring but in there end is the same fairytale with "a happy ending".

I thought that the other reviews would be a good point of view to watch it... Well rated, well commented... But not!!! This a plain and boring tale. Sorry to the director and writer (the same one) but you need to word hard in the storytelling because we haven't had strong moments to feel something. I mean, I get the point about a guy being gay in Alaska, poor and faithless, but the scenes look so fake, actors need more guidance and the script needs more creativity.

I don't like it. I really wanted to, but not! I'm disappointed.

Good idea... Bad idea
7 May 2023
There is a simple principle in movies: everything could be worst.

Tow girls go to clime a TV signal tower in the middle of the desert because they have unfinished businesses in life, in friendship, in family. But it's not so easy.

One of them is a risk taker with thousands of followers in social media and the adrenaline she needs is pushing them to the edge between life and dead.

In the beginning you will barely know the plot story but during the scenes you will be stressed and desperated. Stressed due to the continuous waiting for something to help or something to end. But desperated as well because the script has seriously holes of reality, without them there wouldn't be a long film.

The visual post-production is remarkable, unless the actresses don't have the muscular tone to do all that acrobatic movements. Are they silly? Or are they non prepared to be experienced climbers?

It's just good enough. Not a great movie.

Do you want to be a chef? Don't watch it.
23 April 2023
Many things can turn into a desastre in a restaurant daily life. Well, most of those happens here.

This is a non stop filming production, so you can see many situations in the scenario that pass at the same time. Including clients demands and typical operation in the kitchen. Time by time you will be introduced in a sophisticated restaurant. Technically is a well done film and the camera follows the characters like dancing a coreography.

But, who must be in charge? Obviously the chef/owner. He and his team are natural in acting and you really feel the rush in the actions.

The story. Maybe it's not the best and could seem plain and tasteless. You'll be the judge.

In the end... I don't want to have a restaurant anymore.

Agents for dummies
18 April 2023
I had many spectations about this serie... many of them are now in the trashcan.

I know many people have left their hearts and souls working here, but it has tow big ballasts to succeed such as a good production: the director and the writer. Why?

Let's start with all those unbelievable and unrealistic details in national security they represent in the screen. Yes, I know that without them the serie could end in one chapter. Well... That would be better.

What a weist of time waiting for the (happy) end, for discovering the author(s) of the conspiracy... It's a cliche after another.

Also, the cast have sirious problems because they have to do whatever the director and the writer say. So, into the story some characters change one day to other without logic.

I've never been in the FBI, but I'm sure they have now the serie in the introduction course to show to the rookie ones all they have never must do.

In summary... Sorry! Finger down.

Powerful!

These are ordinary people making extraordinary dances.

Each chapter is an inspiring story of life, effort and creativity.

The editing is one of the best qualities it has, because you almost can feel the bodies in movement. More than once I felt myself touched and moved by the dances in scene... I would love be there in their spectacles.

Filmmakers or guys who know something about tv will love this serie. I did!

Spontaneous (II) (2020)

Spontaneous, but also incisive, heartbreaking, surprising, macabre, exciting and inspiring.
9 August 2022
"What if I died?" It's a question that torments many people and freezes with their fear, resist not creating emotional bonds so as not to be damaged, and lock theirself into their beliefs in order to feel safe.

For another part of the world it's a question that inspires to fight against time, to exhaust each vital extract, to risk beyond the limitations, to experience and discover other things... because the meaning of life is inexhaustible, permanent and exhausting.

I heard some time ago that "Whoever is afraid of death, let them not be born", but neither being begotten and the moment and way of leaving are personal choices... it may be a moment, it may seem like an eternity.

Behind a youth movie hides a very useful philosophical lesson, hopefully more adults see it and it causes them something.

Its realization leaves no debts and fulfills everything it promises. It is spontaneous, but also incisive, heartbreaking, surprising, macabre, exciting and inspiring.

Wow! I haven't stopped crying... It's going to be a long night.

It snuck into my top25.

This is not a zombie story
18 February 2022
Do not expect another serie of zombies and infections, it'd a social drama told through the flight of two families from a sudden virus that is destroying the cities and towns of Russia.

Each of the characters has a story and the interesting thing is to see how they collide with each other in their struggle to survive, not only because the epidemic but the destruction of a society that becomes ferocious, violent and abusive when fear, famine and disease appear.

There are no big action scenes, there are more confrontations between each other, many shouts and many conflicts. The suspense is marked by hysteria, not by infected people.

Photography gives us a few beautiful postcards with a refined technique, snowy landscapes and intimate portraits of the characters. I think that's the best thing about the serie.

The end of the first season announces a second one, but I will not see it.

I hope I hadn't watch it... nothing had happened
17 February 2022
I ventured to see this Spanish science fiction series and it turned out to be a lot of fiction and less science.

As well the construction of the script hasn't scientific support they try to cover with words took from Quantum Physics just because they seam intelligent.

What a heavy, exhausting and theatrical drama!

I confess that I fast-forwarded half of the chapters, only to have it disappear from my Netflix list and to see the end.

Today I assure you that nothing would have happened "if I hadn't seen it", except that I wasted my time instead of looking at other options.

In that parallel universe that this series talks about, I hope that no filmmaker would have made it.

I recommend this one to you!
17 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Imagine that! A delivery man leaves you a package that is not for you, but you open it and discover that it is a wooden box with which you can go back in time to the moments you lived with the one you loved so much... Do you return the packet? Think twice that it's basically not yours. Or do you use the inexplicable portal to go back someone you loved to?

I liked the approach and it seems that it was put on hold for a second season (without Gaspard Ulliel, obviously). Not spectacular, but it questions things about love, time, and second chances...

Totally recommended
17 February 2022
One of my favorite genres is sci-fi, but this miniseries goes beyond utopian scenarios.

It is a collection of monologues where reflection is a philosophical pretext to question our connection between humanity and technology.

At least, as far as I seen it, they invested in three fundamental elements: * stellar performances * scrupulous art designs * empathic and believable scripts

Hope to see more seasons of it!

New and disturbing
17 February 2022
Many filmmakers around the World have a creativity deficit and only aspire to reproduce the Hollywood model. Many of them should follow the road of Iceland ones.

Iceland is a territory far away from our reality in America and the lifestyle and beliefs of its people are extreme compared with ours.

I once heard "first world countries have first world problems", but in essence we are pursuiting the same things: love, happiness and peace.

This is not a series for everyone, it is a challenge to the mind and patience, as it has a slow narrative and its premise is to simulate those of "The Twilight Zone". Surely it will not be a very popular series, like "Ugly Betty", but it will appeal to those who do not prefer simple content. This is one proof that a good script is better than a super production and high costs on special effects.

I liked it because it ever crossed my mind. What would my *evil me* be like? So, do you?

Brutally boring
17 February 2022
I finally finished watching (what seems to be the first of I don't know how many installments of...) Dune.

The images are spectacular and I would love to fill an art book with many of the frames achieved. I would enjoy it more than this movie that we had to stop about three times. The reason... is brutally boring.

What cool cinematography! And at the same time, what a slow narrative! Watch it at your own risk... of falling asleep.

wow!
17 February 2022
Stereotype that says the poor are poor because they want to, is somewhat right. No one wants to be poor, it's true, but almost no one knows how to get out from the poverty. So the poor are poor because they cannot stop being poor.

With a vision focused only on ending precariousness and with limited access to resources, it is very difficult to leave famine and live in prosperity.

Multiple economic studies say that the rich of the future will only be those who inherit the family wealth, because every day it will be more difficult (even working) to achieve wealth. It is not impossible, it will be more difficult.

And when these films appear, one wishes that the leading family go away from chaos and misery. They deserve it, yes. Will they make it? Find out it.

The narration is slow and makes sense when you know that being poor is a heavy and exhausting burden. But the movie is enjoyed with excellent cinematography that takes us by immersion to the heart of the American countryside.

Nothing compaired with the trailer
17 February 2022
There must be laws against the movie trailer makes that generate high expectations hiding mediocre stories.

It happens with this movie announcing it as the trigger for a sexual revolution and ends up being nothing more than the dramatization of a moralistic pamphlet speech.

No, despite the fact that it seems that they are trying to break the good customs and questioning monogamy, their libretto is a soap opera (it could be a typical Mexican TV drama). After all, the performances are fake, misdirected and tedious.

If you want to waste your time, watch it. If you want to be bored, watch it. If you want to put it on kitchen screen meanwhile you wash the dishes, watch it.

Don't Look Up (2021)

Real... so real
17 February 2022
I assume not everyone saw it on vacations, so I will try not to reveal anything.

The script is very well written, with typical Hollywood humor. It is a story made of stereotypes and with the characterization that the cast gave, more than one is hated or loved.

It has a lot of acidity in some scenes that will snatch laughter, a lot of silliness in some puppet characters, and a lot of tenderness in some reflections that are more like warnings.

The frustration is contagious from the leading characters (DiCaprio and Lawrence) caused by the denaying of science and the moral emptiness behind some influencers on politic and social networks.

It does entertain, like a good Sunday movie, and it does make fun of politics, the media, technology and society.

Bravo!
17 February 2022
I had this Italian serie on my Netflix list for a while, which, thanks, has a few chapters and short duration. I saw it from the beginning to the end in a marathon afternoon.

It's not a big production, but it has good sense of humor and it takes us back to the 80s and 90s time, when the internet was slow, intermittent, erratic but also surprising for the time.

It's another sappy, aspirational, silly story, and that doesn't take away from the fun of the characters who speak making fists... very Italian.

It's fine to hang out.

no announcements needed
17 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
My marathon today was this documentary that is closer to a reality show and that makes a lot of sense because the protagonist is the central element of "The Bachelor" season 23.

It is the follow-up to how this professional football player comes out of the closet and announces his sexual orientation. Surely more than one viewer will see it with morbid eyes, but try to generate empathy.

It does not pay much to the documentary genre, nor to the fight against sexual discrimination. But it does serve as a point of reference, humble and without high aspirations. He says that (in some chapter) and it seemed to me the most frank thing that happens in the plot.

I don't end up believing everything that happens simply because of the omnipresence of the camera and microphones. In some moments, the reactions are stealthy and committed to the recording because what happens on the screen will be used against them. That's why I don't believe everything.

It serves to highlight myths and realities of the LGBTIQ+ community. For examples... Myth. Being gay is not synonymous of promiscuos, scandalous and flamboyant people.

Reality. You don't need to come out of the closet. Announcing nothing, all people must be authentic and true to themselves.

Spoiler alert. It appears on the screen Fran Dresher (The nanny) with a part of her personal story... and she's lovely ever.

Excellent... with honorable mention
17 February 2022
This is a super recommendation... unfortunately, it will have only one season. Sniff! Sniff!

First, do you remember the scandal that caused the movie "Kids" in 1995? If your memory fails you, eat radishes, play alphabet soup and bring the image of a group of teenagers exploring sexuality and drugs. No, do not confuse it with "Beverly Hills 90210". Well, if both American productions fell short compared to "Skins", the London one, imagine adding three lines to the tone with "Genera+ion".

I warn you, it's not for lazy aunts, repressed people on the closet, or overprotective mothers. With the plot you will have to avoid the guilty of sexual experimentation, double standards, suicidal obsessions or aspirations for freedom. All about what we adults think we have a right to and teenagers trust just with their friends.

As a communicator, I adore these productions with extraordinary photography and editing, and a genuine musical selection that, as it happened to me, will become essential in your Spotify lists.

Drama story behind the screen
17 February 2022
Some recent users of social networks will have used the gif of a woman devouring chocolates on the production line, but a few will know who the character is.

She is Lucille Bell, best known for her quasi-autobiographical characterization in the famous series "I love Lucy", originally broadcast between 1951 and 1957.

This film narrates one of his most critical weeks on television, punctuated by the communists persecuting policy in American, but if you decide to see it, you should be more prepared for a couple drama.

Many times actors improve to real people who inspire them. For example, Queen Elizabeth, who in real life is not as beautiful as the actresses who have brought her to the screen with "The crown". Now, Nicole Kidman had something done to her face, perhaps with facial prosthetics or she has already passed with botox sessions, to worsen her porcelain angles.

Well, to all this, how about the movie? Well, just like this review happened to the script, it took a long time from one anecdote to another instead of making a more solid dramatic knot. It is slow and promising.

One would think that this is a true story of political intrigue or the power of the media, but in the end it is the story of the woman who does everything for the love of her man in search of a home (when you see it you will understand this last sentence).

Encanto / Desencanto (Disenchanted)
17 February 2022
Disney has been characterized by establishing parameters of family integration (a heteronormative, classist and politically correct ones) and once again undertook the task.

The brand had it easy with this movie, since Latino families are well known for their deep-rooted unity (to the point of being suffocating) and for being the matriarch at the center of the moral heritage.

However, my childhood illusion has vanished. Little ones have been thrilled by its increasingly detailed animation with bright colors and magical explosions, but I find the story flabby, sappy and bland.

Before, with films like "Hercules" or "The Little Mermaid" I already experienced the elevation of moral, civic or sentimental values, even now I continue enjoying their jokes and dancing with their songs. But although the new one pretends it didn't cause me any empathy, it doesn't teach me any character, I forgot the songs as soon as it finished.

It wasn't wasted time, but I won't watch it again either.
