Running Scared (2006)
Made no sense!
Having seen the trailers, I thought this movie might be exiting. I have seen so many bad movies lately, however, so I checked this fine site to read some reviews. In here, it has a 7.4 rating, which is above average, so I thought I might really enjoy this flick. Unfortunately it turned out to be REALLY bad and disappointing. A 2.3 rating would be more fair. The movie is long enough to make you lose interest along the way. It has a lot of violence, but never comments on the violence. It seems that the morale is: Violence is okay, as long as it is used by good people. There are lots of unnecessary scenes, and the ending sucks so bad, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry!
My advice would be to avoid this movie, it's all hype and no essence!
Bag det stille ydre (2005)
Disappointing!
Knowing very little about this title, I decided to rent it with my wife. Danish horror movies do not come along too often, and the last one we saw, Midsommer, was a pleasant surprise. I had expected the same creepy feeling in this movie - and especially as the main characters in this one are more mature. Unfortunately the script is not as strong in this movie. The actors are struggling with sentences that would never be said in real life, which is a shame. Dejan Cukic has done much better before, he has proved that with the right script and instruction, he can actually act. This movie is an embarrassment to his skills. The same thin cannot be said about Anne Birgitte Lind, who basically stinks in everything she has been in - including this movie! When does she realize that acting is more than reading lines from the script? The story makes no sense, and the characters actions are downright ridiculous. The movie fails on all accounts in my book! By the way, Zlatko Buric is a walking joke. He should have stopped his career after the first Pusher-film!
Serial Intentions (2001)
Avoid!
Looks like a bad TV movie from the early 90's. The actors are bad, the script is bad, there are plot holes/goofs the size of Mount Everest, the story is not engaging... Nothing good really comes to mind when I try to describe this piece of dung. I was so bored, I couldn't wait for the movie to end. And of course there has to be a "shocking" ending, which just fails miserably.
I cannot stress enough how bad this film is. Even if it was on TV, I would feel disappointed about it. No redeeming qualities. You should just leave this one alone!
This was all I wanted to write, but it is required that I write ten lines of text. I hope this does not count as "junk words"
The Dead of Night (2004)
So bad it's actually NOT good!
I saw this movie yesterday expecting a b-grade slasher. Even the lowest expectations weren't exceeded in this crap-fest. Clearly a movie made by a bunch of high school students who had way more fun making it than I had watching it. I keep wondering how this got distributed. Who took this home video and decided to put it on the shelves of video stores. I rented this in Blockbuster, for crying out loud! So anyway. Besides from REALLY bad acting and totally lack of believable characters, a story line so clichéd you wont believe it, and really bad special effects (childish rubber masks.... And what's with the eye-popping? It looks so fake, and they used it twice during the movie...) Besides all that... No... There are no redeeming qualities in this movie whatsoever. None...
This can only be recommended to friends of the cast - and even they will have a hard time believing that ANYONE would participate in the making of this nonsense!
Dog Soldiers (2002)
Could be to werewolves what Evil Dead was to zombies
Do you remember the first Evil Dead movie? The one that doesn't try to be funny. The one that is really bad. The one everybody says is good, even if they don't mean it. The bad effects and the amateurish production of Dog Soldiers reminded me of that film.
Dog soldiers is okay. Better than Evil Dead, at least. It just never gets quite good. Not exactly as clever as it should be.
There aren't many werewolf-movies, so if you're a fan of the genre, you'll want to see it. (it's better than An American Werewolf in Paris! I promise!
Daredevil (2003)
Don't believe them!!! It's good!
Having read some of the harsh remarks on this site, I did not know what to expect of this movie. Luckily I took a chance and went to see it... It rocks!
If you liked Spiderman, you HAVE to see this. DareDevil is deeper, more realistic (hey, it's still a cartoon), and just plain better. Some of the children in the theatre didn't seem to like it at all, which explains that so many people in here dislike it...
If you are under the age of 15, I recommend some Disney movie in stead... If you are grown up (or even just nearly grown up), this might be the thing.
And, by the way.... I saw somebody complained about the names... Please... (I won't dignify that with any other comment!)
Der er en yndig mand (2002)
Is that Oscar-material???
Hey, this was not a bad movie. I just don't think it deserved an Oscar... I have seen many Danish shorts that were better than this one. It is a feel-good film, but it just isn't very deep, it's actually boring at places, and the whole idea is a little silly...
It's not a complete waste of time, but I've definately seen better!
Black Hawk Down (2001)
Was that really it?
I had been looking forward to watching this movie, and my girlfriend actually asked if we could watch it together. She fell asleep after about an hour or so, while i forced myself to watch the rest of the movie.
What is the main problem with this movie? The camera work is great (which isn't really a surprise... I guess Ridley knows what he wants...) The acting is okay, the fx are good. The problem in my opinion is that there is little to no plot through the movie. We get maybe 15-25 minutes of plot and story explanation, and the rest of the movie a lot of soldiers are running around shooting black guys and being shot at. As we are not told ANYTHING about the soldiers, I really did not care who got shot. We have McGregor and one of the helicopter pilots... the rest of the soldiers looked the same to me. And when they were running around the city, I had NO idea where they were or how long apart they were.
I understand that a lot of people will get angry when reading this, but I mean no disrespect to the 19(?) American soldiers who died in Somalia... and maybe we should remember that thousands of non-Americans died during the war?
This movie is highly overrated... If you want a good movie on war, see Full Metal Jacket or maybe Enemy At The Gates.... Don't waste your time with this "all-action-no-plot"-war movie
The Convent (2000)
Yes! This is cool!
Don't believe the people who told you this movie sucks. It doesn't. It rocks! Right from the beginning the movie has a cool, relaxed atmosphere, and it keeps it going. Especially the "satanists" really crack me up, but the movie is generally hillarious. It isn't really scary, but who needs scary, when you have funny? 1 2 watch!
The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999)
Not that bad...
I just finished seeing the movie, and it wasn't as bad as people on this site try to tell you. I think it is merely an updated version of the original Carrie (more remake than sequel), but as I did not think of the original as a "masterpiece", so this isn't profanity to me...
There really isn't much horror in the film, and it is pretty predictable, but it isn't really worse than your average teenmovie...
6/10: An okay way to spend an evening (or afternoon...)
Rollerball (2002)
Unfortunately... Not enough...
I just finished watching this movie. I had read some comments on this site, ad I had been warned. But I confess: I love violent movies. Some people may think that that makes me a nutcase, but as much as I hate real life violence, I like movie violence.
Well... I expected a violent movie... I expected the Rollerball-game to be cruel and ultraviolent. And it is violent at times, but it is also a sissy-game of jumping and posing. And the game is not the main plot of the movie... Everybody who saw Salute to a Jugger/Blood of Heroes knows what a violent futuristic game looks like... This is not it!
Okay, so I was disappointed about the violence which mainly takes part in the last 15 minutes, but also the story is going nowhere. Several times I caught myself thinking what dinner I should eat tonight, and if I should go shopping.... That means the movie stinks! The camera, the editing, everything is so bad. Nothing saves this movie.
Unless you have been very bad and want to torture yourself, do not watch.
P.S. Since the movie has some violent action scenes, I give it a 4/10, but if you are not a gorehound, the score will be less.
Donnie Darko (2001)
Okay, but not that great...
It seems that whenever I read about a movie, the nice people at IMDB.com recommends that I should see Donnie Darko. Well.... I already did. Many people on this page had already praised this movie, so I had to see what the fuzz was all about.
I was disappointed!
The movie is not bad, it is just plain boring. Nothing much seems to happen, but still the feeling and the tension makes you watch the entire movie. I did not find it as rewarding, as I had hoped. I would rather not go into details, as everybody probably knows the plot. My main problem is that people on this site seem to think that you LOVE this movie or you are pretty dumb. Well... I don't and I'm not. I just like a LITTLE action in films. There, I said it!
But my biggest question is: Why do the people at IMDB think that I would enjoy this movie, if I like horror, comedy, suspense, thriller, drama, or adventure, etc. Personally I do not think that EVERYBODY who loves ANY kinds of movies like this. I have seen some movies that I really liked. I have seen some i adore. This is not one of them.
Not a complete waste of time, but if you need action, don't even bother...
6/10
Bangrajan (2000)
Thank God for moustaches and beards!
This movie was just released on video in Denmark, and I persuaded a friend to watch it with me. He thanked me afterwards! This is a great movie, and the battles are just INCREDIBLE. You can only compare it to Braveheart, but this movie avoids being as over-the-top romantic.
The only problem is that the people are a little hard to tell from each other (wow, do I sound like a racist!). We have a hero with a big moustache. A drunk with a beard. A guy who is younger than everybody else. And thats about it. The rest of the men look like each other with the same haircuts and facial hair. And the names being so different from western names makes it harder to follow. Luckily, it doesn't really matter who of the men did what. This is a film to watch for its fighting scenes.
If you liked the fighting in Braveheart, you just have to see this. I believe the budget was smaller for this one, but the battle scenes are very convincing. You have to see it for yourself. Actually I think this movie is better than Braveheart, even though I liked that a lot!
Thir13en Ghosts (2001)
What movie did you guys see?
Come on!!! What did you expect? I saw this movie recently, despite the fact that (almost) everybody on this site hated it! I expected nothing and was happily surprised, as the movie rocked! Granted, the scenes with the little brat was a poorly remake of the Shining, but otherwise the movie was great! It had scares, stunning special effects, and a pretty good story! Everything I want from a horror-flick!
Mock me all you want, but I like intelligent movies, too, but when I sit down to see a new horror-film, I do not expect a storyline like Memento or Lost Highway. Entertainment is the keyword here, and thir13en ghosts delivered!
P.S. The lawyer made me laugh! P.P.S. If you find this movie stupid, you might want to go for Donnie Darko instead of Blade II.
Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS (1975)
Overrated soft-core pornography/drama/exploitation-flick!
A lot of horror/(s)exploitation-fans like this movie. Or at least they claim to like it. I find it hard to believe that anybody in their right mind could like this flick.
First of all: The movie is booooorrrriiiing! There is little to no action during most of the movie. The plot is thinner than paper and the "story" is likely to make you smile at best.
Secondly: The totally mindless nudity. Do the filmmakers try to turn the viewers on? If so, they might have chosen some prettier actors (actresses). The nudity scenes are unpleasant at best because of the context!
Thirdly: The gore... the gore.... Why isn't there more of it. Yes, we see blood. Yes, we see deaths. But it is nothing compared to other movies. Terrible experiments, yes, but Rambo killed more people in 5 seconds than die throughout this movie. If they wanted to make a shocker, they shouldn't film the walls every time something nasty is about to happen.
All in all: The film is offensive, as it is meant to be. But honestly... Being 25 years old, I have seen worse. And better! If you want a film about cruel experiments, go for Men Behind the Sun, which is the nastiest movie ever. Who would want to see nasty films anyway... Well if you do, you can find nastier ones easily!
