Billy Elliot (2000)
Excellent!
So my friend walks up to me and says, "Why don't you watch Billy Elliot?" Well, the idea of watching a flick with some little kid who does ballet doesn't strike me as the best thing to waste my day on. I was just as wrong as ever. Jamie Bell, though only appearing in a few movies, is a magnificent actor, and quite an incredible choice for his role as Billy. Billy Elliot is witty, dramatic, and quite striking, just as it should be. It quite rightly shows an eleven-year-old boy's struggle to make his dream come true. Also, Julie Walters portrays the rather sarcastic ballet teacher with perfection. To give a rough outline of the movie:
Billy Elliot (Bell) comes from a rather low-class mining family, and is expected, as his father and brother before him, to accept his mining position with gratitude. However, one day after boxing lessons, he discovers his own passion: ballet. With the help of his new ballet teacher (Walters), Billy chases his dream of becoming a professional dancer.
Now that you've heard my rant on this excellent movie, do you think you'll watch it? My dare to you is to always try to achieve your dreams...be like Billy...never give up.
This movie sends out quite an important message, doesn't it?
Matrixchic007 rates Billy Elliot as a 10 out of 10.
The Iron Giant (1999)
He can fly...
When my five-year-old brother walked up to me, tugged on my hand, and said, "Come watch Iron Giant!", I couldn't say no. Little kids just do it all, don't they? Well, I can't tell you what I was expecting...it probably would disgrace the movie. Very contrary to my belief, I found The Iron Giant to be an incredible tale of friendship and love. It's not one of those sappy little kid movies...it really has meaning to it. Eli Marienthal was an excellent choice for the voice of Hogarth, also, and who knew that Vin Diesel could sound like a robot? I can't tell how many times I've watched this movie with my little brother now...it has to be on of the best animated movies ever created. It can get one very emotional also...::sigh:: I almost cried when the robot quoted Hogarth and went to stop the bomb. Well, not too much time is left for me here, so I might as well wrap it up with a question:
Do you think you can fly?

A Ring of Endless Light (2002)
the most horrible movie i have ever seen
This has got to be the most rotten, horrid movie I have ever seen in my life. Worse than Air Bud 4, worse than umm...anything! The book "A Ring of Endless Light" is my favorite book by Madeline L'Engle, and she happens to be one of my favorite authors, so this book pretty much tops my list. When I saw this movie, I told everyone: "Ahhh! They destroyed my beautiful book!!" Hey, it's true. I have nothing against Mischa Barton, but she needs acting lessons. Also, they didn't get the characters right. If you actually read the books, Vicky is NOT a blonde, and Zachary has very dark hair and grey eyes. He's very pale, also, and wears dark colors. Well, that's just about all I have to say, as I am incredibly infuriated with this movie. Oh yes, to steal a quote from a review on Air Bud 4, when it comes out on video, "take all the copies off the shelves and hide them under the bed." 1 out of 10 for A Ring of Endless Light.
Max Keeble's Big Move (2001)
Not a horrible kiddie flick, but...
Max Keeble. Well then. Not horrible, but definitely not the best. The jokes are O.K., the cast isn't too bad (where have I seen all them before?), and the food fight was a hit. However, the little scenes between "Max" and "Jenna" weren't very good at all. Come on, what 9th grader would actually notice a 7th grader. Possible, not likely. It's a movie, though. I guess the directors can have their fun. This movie wasn't totally bad, it just needs a little more...something. 6 out of 10 for Max Keeble.
Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch (2002)
Another Air Bud...
I would have never guessed. This movie might not be as bad as #3, but it's certainly getting there. Though the acting might be a little better in this movie...really, who wants to see another Air Bud? The magical thought that all of Air Bud's puppies can also play sports is just laughable. Although baseball is a great sport, it's a little strange (and totally fake) that a dog can really hold a metal baseball bat and not break all its teeth hitting the ball. Well, that's pretty much all I have to say...hmmm...I'll give it a 4 out of 10.
Eight Legged Freaks (2002)
Remind you of something?
Well, I'll tell you one thing. Flashbacks. To the Birds and the Bees and all those old, faky movies. However, Eight Legged Freaks really isn't that bad. The spiders look fairly real, the acting isn't too bad, and "Hey! Didn't I see all those people in the Disney movie Motocrossed?" It's actually hilarious at some points, with stupid little quirks in it. If you're looking for a movie that might scare you...with a little bit of humor...then this movie's for you. 8 out of 10 for Eight Legged Freaks.
