Never becomes whole
16 December 2003
Warning: Spoilers
***Possible Spoilers***

When I saw this today I had some expectation of how it would be like, not too high, but not low either. This was nothing like I expected at all though, it seems to me like the movie makers couldn't make up their mind of what kind of movie to make.

In the begining of the film it's somewhat mysterious and kinda exciting, but that'll soon change to some ridiculous scenes - very obvious scenes... As I watched further I almost fell asleep a couple of times.

The ending is the most ridiculous of all though, almost splatter/comedy...

I'm not saying it doesn't have some good scenes it's just that the film never becomes "whole".

unsuccessful combination
6 December 2003
I find this to be a bad combination of two totally different stories actually, if not three... Neither of is any successful either. Furthermore there is very bad acting throughout the movie plus that the bird is very badly done. Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't they able to do better stuff in 1982 than stop-motion and bad montages?

The good things about this movie is that it's nice to see David Carradine once again, he seems to be the only decent actor in there...

Great Sound
4 December 2003
In the begining of the movie I thought it might be a cool idea and nothing more. After a while I realized that I thought it was quite dense and exciting. From about 10 minutes into the movie and to the very end it's like a rollercoaster ride. I mean it has high peeks in the scary parts but also long boring ones...

The thing that stroke me the most is the great sound/music, it was really something else and if it weren't for that fact it would have been a disaster.

As a whole i would say that the film is a little flat and would need a bit more development as far as the story and characters are concerned. But as I said: Great Sound

Became better after a while
4 December 2003
House of witchcraft is a movie about a man that comes to the house of his nightmares, strange things happen there. At first I thought it was rather tacky and cheep but after a while I changed my mind and the further the movie went on the more interesting it came.

I would say that it is rather exciting at times, even if there's no big surprises to be delivered.

Since I saw the English dubbed version it's difficult to judge the acting. The dubbing is fair though, but there's no way of knowing if the original dialog was as bad as in this version, a lot of strange "fabricated" sentences if you know what I mean.

it sure is alive!

I really liked this one when I saw it again today. I had not seen it since the mid eighties and had no high expectations about it. But from the very beginning I was struck by how well made it was, the subtle glimpses of IT is quite enough to make the point. But then again less is often more!

I also thought it was quite well acted and it even seems to have a message and some morality in there.

not too bad luck
2 November 2003
I thought this was a rather interesting idea. Somewhat incomprehencable at times but I think that's the beauty of philosophical films like this.

The acting might not be top notch all the time and the begining of the film is rather slow and boring. But the more of the games you see and the further into the story it gets, the better it gets.

uneven
1 November 2003
Alright... I realize that the second movie in a series has some difficulties to begin with. People already know most of the plot so to develop that seems pretty pointless. There is almost no plot development here but I think I can live with that.

Comparing this to the first movie seems therefore unfair but what is one to do?

Where the first movie was very philosophical this just seems like plain action. Not much thought behind the plot and different realities. Further the action scenes that were so different and new in the first one are still there to some extent but you can sense the computer technology behind the camera (so to speak). At some points it seems like the actors are hanging in string.

So what do I think about the concept as a whole? I think it's very uneven, at points it's really good (mostly at the end). Sometimes it's a real drag though and I think it's mostly because of the lengthy fight scenes. It feels like they could be reduced by several minutes to give the movie a more healthy length.

Too long Too ordinary

BUT I liked the last few minutes so I'll give it 6/10

truly horrible
24 May 2003
This must be one of the most stupid and pointless movies I've ever seen. ok, so I figured that it wouldn't ever become a classic but still... there are limits. Not terrible bad actors but a horrible script and lousy directing.

Accually some of the special effects are rather good, but only the gory ones. Special effect showing the bugs looks like trash....

avoid at all costs 2/10

really really bad
20 April 2003
oh my... This is really bad. Not that I've ever liked Tom Cruise but Steven Spielberg made a movie or two that wasn't too bad.

<<<<<POSSIBLE SPOLIERS>>>>>

This starts off with a very confusing story about cops investigating crimes before they happen. Ok, that's a cool idea, but why make it so complicated? I'll give it that thought, that in the begining there's a few interesting question brought to mind. Things that make you want to look further.

At the moment when Tom cruise sees himself commit a murder it become very standard though. He runs away trying to prove his innocence. With an underlying theme of hatred to who ever killed his sun, he accually kills a man... but he still clains to be part of a conspiracy - big surprize!

some cool scenes but nothing really special 4/10

Joe Hill aka Joel Emanuel Hägglund
20 April 2003
Brilliant story about swedish-american agitator Joe Hill. Haven't seen this for a few years now, but I still remember Thommy Berggrens acting and the superb script of this Widerberg Classic! Widerberg has a certain way of making us interested in the stories. His storytelling is a little cold and has a documentary feel over them. He has shown that in movie after movie. This is one of the better ones! I'll finish off with Joe Hill's last words...

"don't mourn - organize!"

Almost perfect
20 April 2003
Now this is something you don't see every day! Bo Widerbergs style makes this movie almost documentary in a way. That suits this movie since it's based on a true event.

The story is about a small town where the workers go out on strike. The conflict between workers and the factory owners and even between the workers themselves. Seems very simple but oh so good! Very good characters and dialogue! See it if you have the chance!

rip-off
18 April 2003
Watched this movie today and had my hopes high for what it could be. At first, I thought it was exciting and the opening scene was very promising. It became however, the more I watched it, obvious to me that I had accually seen this before. Just in an other form.

Almost exactly the same story as in "Ringu". The only difference is in which way the victims get exposed. In "Ringu" it was via a movie-sequence and here it's by a site on the internet.

Ok, Making a scary movie about the internet might be right in time now, since it takes over more and more of our lives. (Just my interpretation of a possible meaning).

Maybe it would have been better if it were concentrating more on the serial killing doctor rather than the mysterious internetsite?

worst of all
18 April 2003
Worst of all Stephen Kings adaption I've ever seen! Even Graveyard shift is better than this one. Way to confusing plot and non neccesary and pointless footage.

I honestly thought this would be better since Morgan Freeman is in it and he usually picks good movies to work with. But NO! He is terrible in this one. Totally unispired it seems.

There is however one or two thing about this movie that I acually like... First of... The creatures are very nicely done and somewhat inventive. And secondly Damian Lewis Acting performance.

I'm on a good mood today so I'll give it 2/10

Best in quite a while
18 April 2003
This is the best I've seen i quite a while. I like the way you can take very small things and make a lot about it. I mean, how many sets are there in this movie? It more or less takes place in a phone booth all the time.

I felt like I was accually excited while watching it, not knowing what would happen next. (extremely rare feeling). It also puts the actors right out the front and let them do their job without some disturbing cheap effects to attract viewers.

What I didn't like though was that it got just a little bit too moralising towards the end. Just a little bit less and it would have been perfect.

Jaws all over again... but worse
18 April 2003
I knew when I first started to look at this, that I would probably compare it to "Jaws" pretty much from the begining. I wasn't wrong. As others here have said there are a lot of similarities here.

Yet, it started out as a decent monster flick but became worse by every minut. Add the fact that the "creature" looks ridiculously stupid and you have it.

Nothing that haven't been seen before.

Conspiracy (2001 TV Movie)
Provoking but boring
11 April 2003
I really liked the idea of this film, very provoking (I love that)with an interesting theme. Something that MUST NOT be forgotten I might add.

To be honest I fell asleep on my first atempt to view it. Didn't know if it was my lack of sleep during the night or something else so I decided to give it another try.

What's good about this movie is the provoking fact combined with very good acting and the very few sets just in the film. Mainly there is just one set (ok, a few others). Where the whole movie take place. After all this IS about a meeting.

What's bad about it on the other hand is that it's very boring and I don't know why. Maybe the Characters needed more development, although I thought at least some of them were adequate.

In the end I couldn't wait for it to be over so I could do something else...

The Raven (1963)
good but not great
11 April 2003
I accually enjoyed this lovely little comedy. I don't know but it might have something to do with that it stars Vincent Price, one of my long time favorite actors. Because I am not generally to fond of comedies.

This is one of those who don't produce a lot of laughs but play gently with the viewer. If you have seen a few other similar movies (in the horror genre) it certainly helps. I would even considder this a parody of such movies from time to time.

And what of the actors? Well, As Vincent Price being a long time favorite I was hardest on him. I feel that he plays over just a bit from time to time, but on the other hand, this is that kind of a movie.

Peter Lorre must do the best performance here. He does his drunk and revengeous character very well, but on the other hand, I've seen him do just about that part before...

Boris Karloff is good also! Good but not great, he did far better movies than this one in his earlier days.

As someone else said about Jack Nicholson. He doesn't hint what a great actor he'll become in later years. Still it's funny to see an early film by someone like him.

poor dubbing but good
30 March 2003
I saw this the other day and I must say that I think it's rather good! Don't know if there is an undubbed version of it out there, but if there is I sure want to see it. Something gets lost in the poor English dub. I would preffered Subtitles.

But As I said, I liked it. Pretty original script even if some of it seems old and done a few times before. I'd recomend this one! 7/10

Stephen King Syndrome
30 March 2003
I'd say that this suffers from I normally call "the Stephen King Syndrome". It takes effect in almost all movies based upon his stories. What happens is that the story begins very interesting and you really want to know more about it. It's very exciting and creepy up to a point (usually just about half way through the movie). In this case it lasts a little longer. But when all the supernatural stuff begins to happen it's time to turn of this thing. ¨

I wish they could just have used the first part with the children murdering their parents under the leadership of Issac. I thought this Child-sect-thing was quite interesting and could be developed more.

But as I said "Stephen King Syndrome"... too bad 6/10

Doing his job
29 March 2003
I bought this movie the other day for the sole reason that I like Rutger Hauer, I always have since "the Hitcher". The problem is that I always compare him to that movie and he's never done anything that comes near that one again. However, I bought this and watched it, Rutger Hauer is the only this about this movie that's good And he's just doing his job, nothing out of the ordinary.

The plot is quite dull and nothing new. Then they spoil it further by throwing in an ex wife of his... I wish they would concentrate on the actual crime instead, it would be much better. But as I said, Rutger does his job well but not great. This is only for Fans of Rutger Hauer. 5/10

High Risk (1995)
hmmm... how do I interperate this?
29 March 2003
ok, let's see...

What if this movie was made this cliché and this badly dubbed on purpose? Then it would be a brilliant parody/tribute to Bruce Lee, As much of the Frankie Lone character obviously is borowed from him. No, not the coward part, but a lot of the poses he does. There is also the yellow clothing which MUST refer to Game of death... I'd more or less leave out Jet Li's Character in this analysis since I considder it to be more of a sidekick but yet extremly important to the story. In this case I'd give this movie a 8/10

But what if this movie wasn't made like this on purpose?

Then it would become something completly different. It would become a badly made ordinary action movie. The story is nothing new and have been made a 1000 times before. Ok, it would still have some humor in it but it would be almost a a turkey... In this case I'd give it 4/10

Why?
9 September 2002
Warning: Spoilers
Includes SPOILER!

I think I saw this movie with a fairly open mind. That means that I'm usually interested in the things on could hope for in the story. The Problem is that it never gets anywhere, all of the great potential the storyline has becomes totaly vanished.

For example: there was great potential to be gain from the fact that there were different cultures involved, but except for a few minor (and very easily solved matters) the movie maker doesn't take advantage of this.

There is also the problem with the eaters of the dead, ok, they're dressed up as bears... but WHY? Nothing ever covered this. What was the mystery with their mother? Why did they scatter when the leader was killed? This things in the plot would make the whole movie a lot more dense and three-dimentional. As it is now it's hardly two-dementional.

I think the story-line is too thin for this to ever work.

Excuse me?
3 September 2002
I wonder what the point by making this movie was? It seems to me that it lacks about everything that makes a good movie work. There is hardly any plot at all (other than "let's go to Mars and see what happens to the oxygen").

The acting is almost non existing. At least it seems that way, I never get a feeling of any inspiration of any of the actors. Plus that it never actually "feels" that they are on Mars or in space at all. It's kinda hard to explain but it feels like they're in a studio the whole time... Sort of like the ruins in Full metal jacket which seemed build up not torned down.

I'd say stay away from this movie cause it'll only make you depressed

cliches...
27 August 2002
I understand when making a movie like this you need to have certain ingreiants. That should not neccesarily mean putting one cliche on top of another. It's a funny idea with the traumatised kid and his internal struggle. There is also the small town conspiracy and the newcommer elements. There's only one problem... it never gets neither funny nor exciting in any way. I would suggest something which haven't been seen a 1000 time before in these kinds of movies. I think a movie should be inventive in some way or at least to be suprising from time to time...

I'd give this 3/10

Scream 2 (1997)
Humourus Sequel with less humour
26 July 2002
Well, I finally got around to seeing this sequal that I heard so much about.

First this that's noticable is that there is much less humour in this than the original film. I really can't say that humourus horror flicks is really my thing to begin with, so I guess that's a good thing. Still I would concidder it WAY to humourus and uninteresting, I mean, there is absolutly no suspense through out the movie. Something that the first film had at least from time to time. This may sound like I totaly disaprove of the movie but that's not true. I find it an interesting movie anyway, after all Wes Craven is a very competent film maker and makes very few misstakes.

I guess you could say that this is a great humourus sequal, too bad I ani't into thos that much.

Still I would give it 2 out of 5 but I wish they would lose that silly mask...
