Friday Night Lights (2006)
You aren't too good for this show...
My favorite shows are almost exclusively HBO shows. Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, etc. I thought I was too evolved and above this "network" show. I've never been more wrong. Very rarely, if ever, does a show that's five seasons long peak in the final episode. I love football, but the football is actually very unrealistic and kind of hokey. Every game is a last second, miracle victory. But it's not the football that sucked me in, it's the stories. It's the acting. It's the way it's filmed. It's beautiful. It might be the "male soap opera" as some have said, but I don't care. I'm all in. No, it's not the Sopranos, but it's definitely worth your time.
30 for 30: June 17th, 1994 (2010)
Greatest Documentary Ever Made
It is, without a doubt, the greatest documentary ever made. Billy Corben is the most underrated filmmaker ever. I could go on and on but the bottom line is you either get it or you don't. Thank you Billy.
The Grinder (2015)
As good as network tv gets...
It is absolutely a top five network show all-time. Only one season is actually, probably, a good thing. I've watched it several times. Truly a masterpiece.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Good once-thru
Love Adam's films. Most are easily watched multiple times. This is one of those unique films that was really enjoyable, but I probably won't watch it again. Definitely worth watching once. Left-wing for sure, if you're a Trump supporter don't even bother......update: just watched it again and will almost certainly watch it a third time....forgot I even wrote this review....it's a brilliant movie.
Last Chance U (2016)
Only Seasons 3 & 4!!!
Genuinely some of the best documentary filmmaking to date. If you don't passionately dislike the game of football, and you have a soul, you will like this series, I promise you. Just watch seasons 3 & 4, tho. 1 & 2 are ok, but not even close to the same level. Can't even bring myself to watch season 5 because of how good 3 & 4 are.
The Middle (2009)
Top 5 all-time sitcom....
I've watched the entire series three times now. It has 9 seasons but yet peaks at the 8th! That is so incredibly rare with any series. Almost all series, HBO and otherwise, peak after 2-4 seasons. Granted, it's limited by the network, but it's beautifully written and doesn't have a laugh track. Top 5 sitcom all-time. Only show I haven't been able to watch the last episode of because I know I'll cry.
Unhinged (2020)
Classic trailer>actual movie....Fat Russ Crowe is kinda cool, tho.
Trailer is great....movie is beyond ridiculous.... Only cool thing is Fat Russell Crowe. He put on at least 50 lbs for this nonsense. He must have tax issues or something and needs $ badly.... That's all you need to know. Don't waste your time. Go watch Falling Down, instead.
Hoosiers (1986)
Tied with Miracle for best sports movie ever...
I'm from Indiana so I'm biased. That said, if you don't tear up when you watch this movie I consider it to be a serious character flaw and we can never be friends....the end.
Quick Draw (2013)
True Hidden Gem
As good as it gets. Pure comedy gold. Best "sitcom" ever. Too good for public consumption so it got cancelled after basically 1 season. That's how it goes. Shows with laugh tracks go on endlessly but genius like this gets cancelled. Keep watching The Voice and drinking beer America. Frickin dolts.
True Grit (2010)
G.O.A.T....
Unrivaled as a remake and maybe greatest western ever made. Nearly perfect in every way.
The Little Things (2021)
Huge letdown....
A: Although Rami looks like the son of Michael Shannon, he's a horrible actor....B: Are Leto and Denzel both wearing pillows under their shirts? What's up with that? Why would they agree to do this? They can't be that hard up for money. C: This movie sucks. That's all.
9-1-1: Lone Star (2020)
The Grinder becomes a firefighter....
If you're a fan of The Grinder, it's almost impossible to take Rob Lowe seriously now. I mean this in a good way. 911 might be a good show, I'm just a huge fan of The Grinder and Parks and Rec so it's hard to take Rob seriously. That's all I'm saying.
How to with John Wilson (2020)
Unique and beautiful
Probably won't gain a following, but I think it's amazing. The subtlest of humor and very relaxing, almost hypnotic.
O.J.: Made in America (2016)
GOLD STANDARD!!!!!
Seriously, this should be mandatory viewing in schools....it covers everything....If you haven't watched it, I immediately lose respect for you.....I'm 49 years old....I'm incredibly lazy, and have watched way more than my share of the idiot box....that said, this is the best thing to ever have been filmed. I could ramble on for days to back up my argument, but, again, I'm extremely lazy. You'll just have to take my word for it....Even the music, the score, is perfection.....Just watch it....if you have a working brain in your head, you'll agree with me.....It's the best ever.
Borg McEnroe (2017)
Pretty good....until the semis....
I really enjoyed it....until Mac played Connors in the semis....the dude looked nothing at all like Jimbo....not even close...so I had to stop watching.
Creed II (2018)
I want my $6 back....
Can't believe this is rated higher than Rocky IV....wasn't gonna watch it at all, but dude I work with swore it was really good....needless to say, said dude is on my dunzo list now and is in for a good dressing down when I see him tomorrow.....it's a joke.....just go back and watch Rocky IV....yeah, it's cheesy in parts, the montage especially, but compared to Creed II, it's Citizen effing Kane....
After Life (2019)
Ricky is most talented of our generation...
I'm 3 eps in and I've cried and belly-laughed every ep. What more can you ask????
