Man on Fire (2004)
That Poster
29 April 2004
The poster for this movie is one of the most awesome posters I've seen in a long time. It truly exempliflies what the movie could be, although it turned out to be so much better. When I compare it to the posters for Van Helsing or Hellboy it just kills the competition as DENZEL did in the movie. Walking tall has a cool poster too, and I was liked it for a hot minute, but then it started to look too plain, and then Man on Fire came out, and that was a wrap. I wish more movies would come out with posters with art direction that really give life to the movie without even seeing it.

Toughest cat in Town
19 January 2003
Heathcliff, you are one cat in a million. The late great Mel Blanc as the title role voice had me in hysterics every day afterschool at 3pm when Heathcliff would make his rounds and stake his claim in the neighborhood. Every episode you could expect Heathcliff was going to do something crazy, from beating up the Siamese twins, to getting revenge on the CatFather!! My favorite episode would have to be "The Kit Kat Club" Classic, except for that annoying Iggy. What's with the bowtie son? My all-time favorite cartoon.

Malcolm X (1992)

Spectacular!!!
3 January 2003
Having studied Malcolm X in Black History courses and having read the autobiographical book, I had a heads up on what Malcolm's life was like before the movie came out. To my surprise, the much publicized and long awaited biopic painted such a vivid picture about the legend behind the man. The combination of Denzel's accurate portrayal of the slain civil rights leader, complementing Spike Lee's shrewd direction made this film one of my all time favorites. Denzel is surrounded, much to his benefit, by a great cast of actors such as Delroy Lindo and a wholesome Angela Bassett. Malcolm X also benefits from a well paced story that becomes more engaging with every minute. This film is a must see for all who appreciate a great movie and exceptional movie-making!!

Tupac's best performance
3 January 2003
This is a hip-hop classic that I could definitely relate to being from NYC, and having been in a click of four friends since grade school. The film has a great pace and rhythm from start to finish, never a dull moment. Tupac displayed the raw talent and anger that resides in most inner city youth who simply want respect. Unfortunately respect came at a price, which the film was precisely able to convey, through strong performances by Tupac, and by Omar Epps, as the aspiring DJ, in their first featured roles. Samuel L. Jackson has a noticeable role as a pool hall owner, and young Queen Latifah does her thing as the Ruffhouse MC. Ernest Dickerson does an excellent job with capturing the energy of Harlem in an honest way, not dressed as a stereo-typical slum or focused on the historic 125th street, but neutral to lay the groundwork for the true challenges that living in Harlem has to offer these four young men. A classic!!
