Girls Trip (2017)
FUN from the moment it starts until it ends
I saw the trailers and was so impressed with Tiffany that I couldn't get enough of her. Queen Latifah or Jada were enough to get me on board but after realizing who the real star was they quickly became second fiddle to her mesmerizing electric guitar. The story was one we can all relate to four women who lead busy, stressful lives, add to that the friendships and you a great recipe. However let's not miss the point that what truly made this movie EPIC was the jokes that were pretty much Hanging from Tiffany Haddish. Thanks Tiffany for a fun night out with my friend.
Twilight (2008)
Vampires that glitter WTF?!
Am I one of 2 people in the entire world that thinks Kristen Stewart can't act? I must admit The 1st chapter in this movie saga seemed like it was off to a good start even though it was riddled with flaws and slow paced. There was Jacob the werewolf and Cam as the evil vampire (why was he shirtless again?). The vampires had unique special powers which I thought was an interesting take. I like that these vampires live in a glass house or was it a green house? Hmm. Sparkling vampires, oh yes that made a whole lot of sense. I expected a bit more action before the credits but obviously this movie was for teenage girls. Overall though it was watchable especially if you had nothing better to do.
Inception (2010)
I don't get what was so mind blowing.
So you can enter somebody's dream and plant an idea and then watch it develop into some big world changing decision/event. Well honestly I'd rather have telepathy to enter somebody's thoughts where I could do a whole lot more but that's not exactly what Inception is about. If I follow the story it was about planting the seed of doubt in a competitor's mind so he would sell him company or something like that. I found a lot of things in this movie pointless and how exactly can u have a dream within a dream within a dream? Isn't that like saying I'm eating a meal within a meal within a meal? Seriously if this was all the studio could come up with I'd rather watch Superman stop a bullet with his invulnerable eye again and again and again.
Wolverine and the X-Men (2008)
The most boring Wolverine cartoon of All time!!!
This cartoon really isn't impressive and anybody who doesn't agree is a Wolverine fan. Wolverine AND HIS X-Men as I call it is all about Logan. I know he's popular but the whole point of a team is so that everyone get their own time in the spotlight. This show was all about "Wolverine" not the X-Men they are merely his lackeys. It's not impossible for Wolverine to become leader but the circumstances have to be right. Storm, Nightcrawler or even Beast would have been better at the job especially considering they have successfully fulfilled that role in the past.
The overall plot was disappointing we were led on from episode 1 and only saw progress right before the season finale. Some characters simply just fell flat, Blob and Toad were empty shells of their former selves. These guys were never smart or powerful but you could get where they were coming from and what motivated their actions but in this series they were just numb skulls. Emma Frost was also disappointing. I know there were challenges making her character more appropriate for kids but she seemed to be pointless and boring whereas the Emma I'm used to is complex and intriguing. I expected that a team led by Logan would encounter more action but the fight sequences were mainly disappointing.
Continuity was also screwed up. Forge was a kid/the tech guy and Kitty was acting like his babysitter on their mission. Here's an accomplished Native American Shaman and a veteran from the Vietnam war who needs the protection of a teenage girl. I wasn't aware X-Men were in the business of babysitting mutant babies. Mystique had this whole fabricated history to tie her in with Wolverine more than her kids Nightcrawler and Rogue. I realize the series tried to incorporate a multitude of x-characters which was noble but ultimately it fell short in the characterization dept.
The only reason I gave this show 3 stars is because I enjoyed the Nightcrawler and Cyclops solo episodes, the season finale and a few scenes with Kitty and Rogue.
X-Men: Evolution (2000)
One of my favorite animated shows
I was a fan of the X-Men long before this show began. I understand that a lot of people didn't like the 1st season especially compared to the previous animated series by Fox. The show had a goal of targeting younger audiences and people who were not necessarily familiar with the X-Men. Therefore they decided to do a reboot of the 40+ years of x-history from the books. I must admit in the initial season some episodes seem to be lacking. However with the onset of the 2nd season that crazy, wild, yet fun ride that we know to be the life of an x-man began. The season finales after that were EPIC. Also that character that everyone initially disliked, Spyke evolved into a true Hero and x-man. The series had very intense stories like Avatar the Last Airbender I used to wonder if kids enjoyed the show as much as I did until I saw my younger cousins' reactions. The voice acting was simply flawless I'd just like to say, "Thank You" to Maggie Blue O'Hara who voiced Kitty and kept my ears happy. The animation was breath taking. They even changed Wolverine's costume later to give him that edge the colourful outfit lacked. The thing I like most about this series is that we got to know these character as people not just superheroes. We had a chance to meet Jean Grey the person before she became that all powerful Phoenix. In spite of all it's youth and that unpredictable nature this is my favorite X-Men series.
Burlesque (2010)
The only good musical since Chicago
The movie definitely delivers to it's target audience i.e. Xtina fans, women and gay men. I find that mainly straight men are knocking this piece of art. It's a great movie, excellent cast, actors, plot and musical numbers. My opinion is biased considering I pass 2 of the categories of the film's target group. However let me add, I saw this movie with a few ladies. Meaning I persuaded them to come along, and I heard words uttered like, "Wow I wish I was one of those girls" (before the ending of the opening credits) and "I wish I was Ally". In my opinion this is a manifestation of Xtina's transformation from recording mega legend to movie stardom. It also shows you how much the movie connected with the audience and provided that level of escapism that we all look for in films. Guys if you were expecting Xtina to appear nude go watch Showgirls or if you want action watch a Jason Statham flick. If you want to see an incredibly well done musical, chick flick you've made the right choice. Finally for the Cam Gigandet fans you definitely will Not be disappointed.
Xtina is the name Christina Aguilera goes by as her fans will tell you.
