Top Five (2014)
GREAT movie: intelligent, funny, hopeful & with amazing soundtrack
I love this movie (all the reasons in the title) & it's refreshing to see another great serious film /acting from a comedian, it actually contradicts what even Chris Rock said himself
"People want comedians to be funny. I mean I love Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) but it ain't a better performance than in Dumb & Dumber (1994). I can do serious roles sometimes in other people's movies but not in one of my own. I don't wanna ask my fans to come and not laugh at me: 'Hey! Come on, let's go see Chris Rock not be funny!' "*
KUDOS to C Rock debut as director, waiting for the next one !!! (& by the way JCarrey in ESofSM is just amazing, hate dumb & dumber)

Enlightened (2011)
NOW that it's starting to get interesting, it ends?
NOW that it's starting to get interesting, it ends? I saw all the first season feeling that I was testing the show each & every episode I saw, since the main character & the tone of the show quite put me off.
The second season I just saw 4 episodes (because all my other series are in a break) but THEN I started to get really interested in the show, because it didn't centred in the anger or anguish that has been the main tone of the main character, but centred on the reality that life is downs but ALSO ups, greed & much needed go back to ethics, TO GIVE proper treatment to people, acknowledgement to the deserving ones...
So myself NOW I would like to see a 3rd season in THIS tone, "we are in a deep S***T reality but it can be improved, it should be improved...
10 Years (2011)
film worth seeing, funny & real.
This is a film about a group of classmates going to their ten year high school reunion. Shows where they are now, where they were, what some of them thought of how others would be at; where they would be at that point in time, in their lives
How people want to "save face", and how actually if you scratch the surface of people's life most of the time isn't fairy tales, it's struggle; struggle with work, relationships, yourself, your needs & your wants.
Also deals with living in the past or in the "what if" universe or the now & real one, where something is only perfect in our minds, because reality is never perfect. It can be from amazing to disappointing.
What is happiness? What is the right thing to do? Where are you standing in your life? It could have fallen into many clichés, but (to me) it stayed in the real point of view (with 1 or 2 exceptions)
I would give it a 8.5 if that was possible, but since it's not I preferred the 9 Loved the approach, and still a comedy
This film is pointing towards the always great English comedy style (not there yet, but having its subtle moments, sweet-sour grin, happiness in reality is not the "infantile Hollywood" version.
Worth seeing My comedy recommendations (not in order and just some I think are underrated): Outsourced, Death at a funeral 2007 (ENGLISH VERSION ONLY), Wild Target, Grosse Pointe Blank, The infidel, America's sweethearts, Zombieland, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Catch 22, Big nothing, Extract, I Love You Phillip Morris
Another Year (2010)
Good drama, NOT A COMEDY
This a quite worth film to watch, but please: do not watch it if you are in the mood for a comedy. This is just plain drama: human's emotional misery & dysfunctional family & friendship relationships. REALITY really is shown here. It's actors give an amazing, heart-felt performance, every & each of them, capable of long & close shots, showing the transformation in themselves.
If you watch this film & you liked it, you might want to watch - Muriel's wedding - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110598/ - Young adult - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1625346/ - Greenberg - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1234654/ - Me and You and Everyone We Know - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0415978/
This Means War (2012)
bad message at the end
It was just another action, romantic comedy until she had to decide against all odds she chooses the lair, fake personality one over the real, honest & funny one you could say: attraction well in the movie was shown as if she was equally attracted to both of them friend gives her the advice: choose not the best guy, but the one that makes you be your best self And the she chooses the pathetic one? that actually doesn't do so. All so at the end the one left "alone"can reconcile with the ex-wife mother of his kid CHEESY, PATHETIC ENDING. Better watch: horrible bosses, crazy stupid love, the concert, the name of people, the infidel, 50/50, Me And You And Everyone We Know, girl walks into a bar, Drive, half Nelson, YOUNG ADULT: this is a great overlooked film.
In Time (2011)
Entertaining action sci-fi movie until you exchange a city for the world
Entertaining action sci-fi movie until you amplify a city to the world
This is a quite entertaining sci-fi action movie, After 25th b-day you don't age anymore, but you just have 1 year granted to live, unless you earn TIME Where time is life, the means to buy food, services, objects & LIFE too (having enough you might live for loooong time) But running out of it
just means death
Now this is for after seeing it:
Re-think that the policies carried by the banks (in the movie), are some of the global economical policies carried NOWADAYS, by the IMF for example.
Change the zones in the movie for continents in the world, and bum! It really spices things up. It even turns it somehow uncomfortable realistic (of course I'm referring about everything but the aging
)
Muito Gelo e Dois Dedos D'Água (2006)
VERY worthy movie, funny and creative about 2 sisters revenge
For a summary please read the SUMMARY section :)
It's a VERY worthy movie; the plot is funny & well thought yet simple, The type of humor is sometimes sarcastic, some situation comedy and some dark humor too. The way it's technically created combines acting with different animation techniques... some of them very creative all of them great. If you liked "goodbye Lenin", "ruthless people", "MIB 1" "kiss, kiss, bang, bang"
light comedy but with intelligent jokes, very enjoyable then don't miss it.
Since I have to fill 10 lines I'll just recommend other movies: "Thank you for smoking", "Hedwig and the angry inch", "Samy y yo", "os normais", "little Miss Sunshine" as for comedies.
