Mission: Impossible (1996)
Underrated classic
After commenting on the piece of trash Mission Impossible 2, I decided to say something about the first MI. To begin, I want to say that Mission Impossible is one of my favorite thrillers so you already know that this is going to be a positive review.
The first time I saw the rating of MI, I almost wanted to kill some IMDB users (I'm not joking). 6.5 is really insulting for such a great movie. Maybe it's not a flawless masterpiece but it deserves a 7.5 (Yeah, I know it's only one point, but for me it's a big difference). So anyway, I was like Hey, why do people think this movie ""sucks". I actually wanted to read some IMDB users opinions but I was too lazy so instead (I made something that coasted much more time) I went to see what Roger Ebert wrote and guess what, he's a pussy. His wannabe professional comment says only one thing `I didn't get it'. How stupid must you be for don't get this movie, Ok Ok, I have to admit the plot is a little more complicated than The Weeding planner's but Hey, it's nothing from another world. I could not believe that this was the major `flaw' for the majority of the people.
So back to the film MI is a movie that (for a big part) lives from the style. De Palma's Direction is great, MI has a great atmosphere, especially the beginning with the scenes in Prague, and the scene in the security room has become a classic (even it's sequel tried to copy it). The acting is also good, I actually thought Tom Cruise was a pussy until I saw this movie; he gave a great performance as the paranoid guy who can't trust anybody. Another character that I liked was Ving Rhames's, it's difficult to describe how much Luther rules. Honorable Mention goes to Jean Reno and (a brilliant) John Voight. The score by Danny Elfman was very effective and is a pleasure to hear, I don't think it's necessary to say that the theme is legendary.
To sum up MI is a great movie and everybody who likes thrillers should watch it. Rating: 8 out of 10
Gata salvaje (2002)
An insult to mankind
To those who never heard of this before La Gata salvaje is a South American Telenovela. I usually don't watch these things but I saw it a couple of times and I decided to write about this trash and bash it.
Everybody knows that Telenovelas usually suck but this one sucks extremely hard. No seriously, the first time I saw this, I thought it was a spoof of something (it's that stupid).
One thing that annoys me is that these telenovelas last so long, because the (very very very very bad writers) can turn this two hours 'story' into a series with a duration of months. And the only way to do this, is for example with unnecessary, laughable and repetitive dialogue. It reminds me of Dragonball where a fight could go on for 10 or 15 episodes and 70 % of the duration was dialogue.
But we didn't come to the worst part yet; everybody knows that Telenovelas are known for there atrocious acting. But I wasn't expecting this! In a scale from 1 to then 10, 1 being atrocity and going downhill from there, La Gata salvaje is an 11. There is this character Panchita (What the f*ck were smoking the writers when they came up with this name) who is by far the worst character ever created by a living organism in all History of existence. She gives the word over the top a new definition. And she is also extremely unrealistic; if she existed in real life, she would get shot every time a normal person spended more than five seconds with her together. Now, I don't know if the actress is like that, or the director wanted her to play her part in that way. In both cases the responsible person deserves to be fusilladed.
Another thing that annoys me is the music, they have a few scores for the whole duration and as mentioned above it lasts a few months! Now if the scores were good that wouldn't be a problem but that's not the case. Like the acting, the music is so over the top that it turns every attempt at seriousness into a laugh orgy.
So to sum up, if you are a masochist, want a good laugh and are prepared to affront the consequences (psychological therapy) La Gata salvaje is something for you.
Commando (1985)
Tribute to Commando one of the best Action movies made by men
I'm tired of all this Sissys that today call them selves action heros like Vin diesel and don't have half of the charisma of legends like arnie or sly. I'm also tired of this Sissy action movies where the director has to cut half of the movie to pass the PG-13 rating. There's no blood or gore and that is what a real action fan wants to see, not some stupid close-ups of stupid faces of stupid actors, when the best part of the movies is playing.
Back then in 1985 real men lived, real men like arnie, men that only lived to kick some ass. And that is exactly what he does in Commando. Half of the movie you see like arnie kills a private army, yes you heard me right a private ARMY. But that's not everything what makes this movie great; Sully is just a fantastic villain not a boring pussy like todays villains. Another thing are best one liners I've heard in a long time:
Matrix: Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last?
Sully: That's right, Matrix. You did! Matrix: I lied.
Cindy: What happened to Sully? Matrix: I let him go. (If you watch the movie you will know because I listed this)
Matrix: [after killing a man in the plane] Don't disturb my friend, he's dead tired.
If you take this movie seriously(something that a lot of IMDB users did) then you are an idiot, I mean really Commando is just pure fun it's not ment to be a brilliant work of art. I don't know if the movie tried to be serious but that doesn't matter because they gave us one of the best action movie ever.
X-Men (2000)
could be better
I have a friend that critics a lot of movies saying that it doesn't happen much. But I did never really have that felling about a movie, until now. To begin I'm not really a X-Men fan, sure I saw a couple of times the cartoon but never red the comics or played the games.
I red from a couple of comments that a big problem of X-Men are the characters, in first place there a lot of them and second they have complicated backstorys. Because of that the weak plot spends a lot of his time introducing us to them. But at the end we don't really know much of them, they just remain one dimensional.
The acting is very good Stuart, McKellen and Jackman are great the rest of the cast was good and credible. Some people criticised Halle Berry but that is stupid. I mean she had only a couple of lines and her character was bad written so she did her best but I must admit the line:" Do you know what happens to a toad when it's struck by lightning? The same thing that happens to everything else. "?????? What is that??
To sum up X-Men is not a bad movie, it's very complicated to bring mutants on a realistic way on big screen and it did, if you ignore the weak plot you have good entertainment.
The Godfather (1972)
nothing special here
I had high expectations for this movie since it's first on imdb and third on AFI's, but I was disappointed. It's not that I don't like Mafia movies, I didn't saw a lot of them but I loved Goodfellas and in my opinion it's a superior movie than this.
Yes, The Godfather is good Movie and I respect it but it's really overrated, I mean c'mon the best movie ever made I don't think so.
The story, the editing, the direction, the music are all good, the Acting is perfect (and maybe the best I've seen so far) but don't ask me why, I didn't really care for every one of the characters, they were all so cold. Michael could just die in the middle of the movie and I wouldn't feel nothing. And another thing is the length of the film, 175 minutes is just too much, and don't think I can't watch long movies, I hadn't any problem with Lord of the Rings and even Titanic. But with The Godfather I was really getting sick in the last minutes and I began to hate this movie.
The Godfather is not a bad movie but it's just not what everybody says it is.
The Simpsons (1989)
Brilliant
The Simpsons are possibly my favorite TV Show along with Malcolm and Family Guy. It's the only Show of that I can rewach a (good)episode over and over again, without that it loses his magic and humor. What can I say more, this Show is on television since 13 yeras now, I think this means something!
The Writers are brilliant the Quotes are so hilarious:
Homer: I'm not normally a religious man, but if you're up there, save me, Superman!
Kent Brockman: I've said it before, and I'll say it again: democracy just doesn't work!
Homer: To alcohol! The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems.
Homer: Weaseling out of things is important to learn. It's what separates us from the animals... except the weasel.
The Simpsons are become an important part of the 90's culture. But the problem now, are the new episodes they're just not funny, they are only making fun of other countrys and persons. If the episodes don't get better It should end.
Mission: Impossible II (2000)
What the hell
First of all I want to say that I had high hopes for this movie, De Palma's MI was very good in my opinion it had some good action scenes, and a clever story. But this movie is just awful.
Ok, i must admit it starts good, with the plane crash. The Thing with the mask was a good idea (in that scene). But it's downhill from there.
I think that the big problem of MI 2 is the plot (if it has one). There is no real mission in this one. The whole story is just an excuse to show stupid action scenes. The car spin is a perfect example, what the hell was that !!!
Oh yes, the action scenes, well i don't know what passed through Woo's head when he decided to show half of the film in slow motion. It really went boring, like with the dumb masks, oh my god that was just laughable i mean it's just ridiculous how Hunt always has the right mask at the right moment, a little realism please !!!!
Something that also disturbed me were the characters Tom Cruise isn't really a spy here, he's to busy with his hair now. And I really didn't care about Newton. And what were they thinking about Rhames, his Character was very interesting in MI but now he's so boring with the stupid one liners about his clothes.
I don't know why Woo made this mess, but i think the real guilty are the writers, i hope MI 3 will be better
Home Alone 3 (1997)
Why ???
I loved the first two movies, but this movie was just a waste of time and money (for me and the studio). I'm still wondering why they made this horrible movie. The thing with the plastic gun and with the toy car, that can go into another house are ridiculous. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern in the first two movies were so funny, but the terrorists in this one are so stupid and not funny. Believe me this movie is just a waste of time.
The Faculty (1998)
better than I thought
I was really impressed by the faculty, i had not expected it will be so good i thought i will be just another horror flick. But i was wrong, sure the story isn't very original but the cast is great, especially Elijah and Josh are very credible, may be stokely was a little boring sometimes. It had very excitingly moments like at the beginning with the coach. The music was also good, offspring was a perfect choice for the beginning.
The final was a little irritating and could be more original. But still if you want to have fun for 104 minutes the Faculty is a good choice.
