House M.D.: Simple Explanation (2009)
Season 5, Episode 20
10/10
Amazing episode about a touchy subject
8 April 2009
Warning: Spoilers
From the first scene we notice the unusually subdued colors, which successfully conveys a cold, sad mood, long before we realize that Kutner is dead. Many people were thoroughly shocked by his suicide, as I would have been, had I not been slightly spoiled by an article which said someone on House would commit suicide. Since House M.D. doesn't like to do the expected thing, I kinda predicted that it was Kutner who would kill himself. His discussion with Taub about suicide a few episodes before just seemed to point that way, if you knew what to look for. However, the last scene with House and Kutner in the previous episode had me convinced that his suicide would still be far away, which was some great misdirection by the writers.

I didn't really care about the medical mystery this episode, even though Meat Loaf turned in a nice performance, so my whole focus was on the drama side. For the first time in a long while they showed us a Gregory House who actually cared (as well as showed it) and was thoroughly shaken by what had occurred. Although he would never admit it, Kutner was so much like House it was sometimes scary. He took risks, had a similar sense of humor (Yes, a cat.), as well as keen intuition. In the end the fact there's no reason for Kutner's suicide makes this episode that much more chilling and realistic, which is probably the main reason for some of the hate this episode receives.

Throughout "Simple Explanation" one thing particularly stood out for me. The performances. Everyone was on top of their game this time. However, the Special Gold Acting Star™ with Sparkles (sold separately) goes to Peter Jacobson, who acted his ass off and actually made me cry when he broke down at the end, although the big funeral montage just before that might've had something to do with that... you know, weakened my defenses, which makes my crying in no way unmanly, I tells you.

Breathing Room (I) (2008)
5/10
Predictable, but somewhat entertaining flick
26 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
When I first read the summary of this movie I was pretty excited to see it. It sounded a bit like "Cube", which incidentally is one of my favorite movies, so I thought I should be good. Sadly, it wasn't nearly as good as it could have been.

The premise of "Breathing Room" is quite reminiscent of the aforementioned "Cube", with the exception that the players here are getting "hints" as well as occasional cameos by the oh so scary killer in their midst and their host, who for some reason reminded me of Max Headroom, whilst the characters in "Cube" (at least the first one) never know who is behind their incarceration (which I found much more suspenseful). Throughout the movie the characters behave like you'd expect them to. They get in each others faces, they whine, they try to escape, they try to kill each other... yada yada. Where's the originality, you ask? Beats me. I pretty much saw every little twist in this movie coming, except for the parts of the ending, which left me largely disappointed.

The only reason this movie gets 5 points from me is because the acting didn't completely suck and the cinematography was okay (but sometimes a bit confusing).

So anyway, if you plan on seeing this, don't expect it to be another "Cube". If you can live with "Diet Cube" however, you should be mildly entertained by this.

Warning: Spoilers
This comment refers to the unrated DVD version of Blade: Trinity

First of all let me say that if you liked the first two Blade movies, you should go and see this one. You'll probably like it too. Second, the third movie of the Blade saga is without a doubt the worst of the bunch. It's OK but not great. And here's why:

FX - the special effects are a bit worse than in Blade 2 (except for the dogs, they were cool)

ACTING - Wesley Snipes is in his element as Blade, Ryan Reynolds is drop dead funny (and also has some cool action scenes), Jessica Biel delivers, Parker Posey annoyed me sometimes with her overacting and Natasha Lyonne was Natasha Lyonne, nuff said. The rest of the cast was overall OK.

STORY - Uuuuhhhh ... the Vamps are bringing Dracula back to life to kill Blade. I'm soooooo scared. No really, the story was weak in comparison to the first two movies, but good enough for a sequel. The ending bummed me out though. They should have used the ending of the theatrical version for the unrated film too. It just would have made more sense.

Rating: Ryan Reynolds bumps the movie up to 7 outta 10.

My personal list of favorite Blade movies: 1. Blade 2 (9 outta 10) 2. Blade (8 outta 10) 3. Blade: Trinity (7 outta 10)

Constantine (2005)
10/10
Great Movie ! - trust me
14 June 2005
I really don't know what all these bad reviews are about. It almost looks like a 'Bashing Constantine' contest. Until now ... Ready? To me Constantine is the BEST MOVIE OF 2005 (so far). To clarify let me just break it down for you.

FX - brilliant, especially the hell scenes!

STORY - very creative and different with a nice twist at the end

ACTING - good performances by all the actors (Reeves, Hounsou and Stormare were especially great)

If you like movies like 'Dogma' or 'the Prophecy' you should go rent the DVD and enjoy this modern classic.

That's it. - 10 out of 10

Not bad
27 August 2002
Not a bad movie. Sure, some of the actors are pretty bad and the story has holes the size of Europe in it, but if you lower your expectations you can really enjoy this movie. Believe me. The only thing that bugged me was that the director took out many of the gore scenes to receive an R-Rating. Parts of those missing scenes can be seen in the making of on the "Legion" DVD.

After all *** out of *****

The Cell (2000)
2/10
Overrated, boring wannabe thriller
27 August 2002
Warning: Spoilers
SMALL SPOILER

First I wanna say that I bought the DVD of The Cell and watched the movie like three times, so I know what I am talking about.

I bought the DVD about a year ago after I heard so many people saying that the movie was simply great. Boy were they wrong. Sure, the move is visually perfect and J-Lo is a good actress but that's not enough to make The cell a good movie. First of all, the story is as boring as predictable and even sometimes really stupid (J-Lo as Xena look alike at the end). Second, the movie is just plain boring. Though it tries to create tension it never succeeds. The whole "can you die in the killer's mind" s**t and the woman that is trapped in the cell is just not enough to create tension, because most people already know how it is going to end (all the good guys live, the bad guy dies). Yakk, what a piece of crap!

So why did I watch the movie three times then, you're asking? Honestly, I've been hoping that there was something brillant in the plot that I missed the first time watching (but there wasn't).

* out of ***** (for the visuals)
