The Score (2021)
Original, thoughtful and refreshing
I started passively watching and quickly got sucked in by the quirky characters and the fresh musical interludes. I don't usually like musicals but found myself singing along and looking forward to the next. The writing is intelligent and the style is original. The film moves slowly, but leaves much to savor.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Sadly one of Scorsese's weakest films
The story is predictable and offers nothing new except depicting new lows in degradation and debauchery. Being a big fan of Scorsese I was hoping for more character archs and depth of story but was disappointed how sex and drugs seemed to fill that space instead. This in and of itself could be a commentary on materialism and but again nothing new.
Misconduct (2016)
Sort of ok until the end
The movie gets a few stars because its nice to watch pacino and hopkins doing their thing. Otherwise what really bugs me is that the movie digresses into relationship drama instead of focusing in on the more interesting pharmaceutical coverup story. In the end, the whole original premise of hopkins and even pacino gets lost in the background making it all strangely pointless.
Tenet (2020)
If you're a fan of Nolan's films, don't believe the hype!
This film was hugely disappointing. The story is lacking, acting is uninspired, and the relationships are poorly developed. If you take away the special effects and the sci-fi twist there really isn't much to talk about. I was really excited to see the film and may have had high expectations since I follow Nolan's work and know what he is capable of producing, but possibly these expectations led to my disappointment. I suppose I can give it another try in the future and see if this present assessment changes...
