Welcome to post modern holidays
24 July 2009
The theme of this film resolves around the fact that nowadays you can buy packaged "adventure" holidays for any part of the world, to deep down Amazonia or even to the North Pole, that is to say if you have the money. But what happens "when you have done it all", you will want something else, something scary with a taste of the real stuff and real risk. This is where the post modern holiday enters, why not go someplace really dangerous, two weeks in a country torn by civil war for instance. This is not too far fetched in fact I saw an advert on a newspaper offering a different holiday where you rescue crocodiles. The fact that crocodiles live in unhealthy places and tend to see you as a snack didn't seem to be a problem but on top of you had to pay to participate and these "holidays" although advertised by a charity were far from cheap. So an excellent film, a surprise that Hollywood didn't make a remake out of it but that is all the better as they could very likely mess it up, a bad surprise is that this film is so little know, the copy we saw was subtitled and hard to find.

Deserves the tag Louise Michel
22 July 2009
Yes, a really anarchist film, it attacks the financial sharks who are ruining our society. This is the story of two underdogs who are going to try to strike straight at the head of this mafia. It is really enjoyable as we wish so often that we could do that. The "red virgin" anarchist Louise Michel- one of the first women to wear trousers - is also underlined by the sexual ambiguity of the characters. And also a nice touch is added by using the music of Daniel Johnston a musician as weird as the heroes of this film. The acting is perfect and the dark humour is great. Obviously this is a sort of militant film and so this film has a message, but why shouldn't film makers express their opinions ? It makes a good change from the bland stuff that we are served everyday.

Yes, Yes, bring back Guy Fawkes from the dead
13 July 2009
Yes,Yes, let's bring back Guy Fawkes, am I repeating myself ? Lets bonfire the Parliament,Guy we need you more than ever. Am I going to be arrested for that ? Yes, they are knocking at the door. Whatever the story line, it tries to wake up the English people to what is happening to them. It is a comedy, but along the lines of George Orwell, so just enjoy and think that beyond the cheap storyline it is quite right on. Thanks, Stephen Fry, always at the right time and the right place. I saw a critic saying that he doesn't like a film with a "message" well, may be sometimes it is not that bad that film makers try to express themselves rather than to sell soft cheddar.

Just a few questions for the people enthusiastic about this movie
12 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Who pays during these eight years for the rental of the safe box at the bank ? Not the father because there are inculpating proofs in this safe, if he knew he would get rid of them. Not the daughter as apparently she is in hiding for eight years and has managed to open this safety deposit under a false name (not easy). And how a policeman can make the corpse of a junkie disappear to replace the body of his daughter ( not the same size, full of heroin for somebody who was not known as an addict ) when on top of that this murder has been attributed to a serial killer who has been judged by a tribunal ( details of victims are normally revealed during the court proceedings ).

As bad as "Reefers madness"
22 November 2008
Yes, completely exaggerated vision of drugs taking, exactly as if you wanted to speak about alcohol and started to describe the winos at the corner shop begging for some change to buy cheap booze. Trainspotting was right on, but if people believe that this film is a true and real normal reflection of drug addiction then they are completely intoxicated not by drugs but by the medias, father Christmas is for you as well... How sad it is that this film is so stereotyped;:drugs equal hell. But it never asks the question why do people take drugs, may be it it because they want a good time and forget about their boring lives and do you know what, may be they often get a good time out of it Remember the difference between enjoying a bottle of wine from time to time and being an alcoholic, the same is true with drugs. A lot of people know that but it is never reflected in films, certainly not in this one.

Very bad and misleading film
22 September 2008
Let's take a few snaps-pots of this film:

  • she sends a picture of her naked boyfriend to her family - when asked if she had an affair with the guy at the florist she replies oh no ! I just gave him a blow job - this guy will later in the film describe that it was like sex between sister and brother - her father has a gallery filled with sexually explicit and obscene paintings,he salivates at the name of orgasm, cunnilingus and is ecstatic when saying: sex good - at the party the guy who sits next to the main male character starts stray away to speak about women pubic hair

Please, I am French, I know a lot of French people, I have been to lots of parties in Paris and know a lot of uninhibited people, but the description of French sex obsessed people in this film is grotesquely twisted and exaggerated.

Like the description of the taxi drivers being stupid racist and fascist dick heads,is clearly over the top.

As a French person I almost fell offended in front of this accumulation of stupid stereotypes.

Please avoid.
