Beverly Hills Cop III (1994)
BH III Barely Makes A 3 Rating
As sequels go, they rarely live up to the first, but for Eddie to allow himself to be so...poorly directed by such a usually great director is baffling to me. It's almost as if, throughout the entire movie, the whole cast is simply rehearsing to make sure when they actually do shoot the real flick, it's done well. From the gags to the fights to the disarming of the bad guys, everything seems to be stilted, over the top, and obviously phony.
I have liked just about everything Eddie has done in his career and watch many of his movies time and time again. Beverly Hills Cop III is one that will definitely not be getting a second viewing.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
Give Indy A Break Already - It's a MOVIE, Folks...
Good grief, there are entire books being written in the review section here on how "terrible, terrible, terrible," "why, why, WHY," "it IS as bad," etc. etc. ad nauseum.
Get a grip peeps; it's fantasy, got it? FANTASY. Indy has aged and so too have those who put flicks like this together. None of the Indy movies was frankly very believable, in any way, shape or form, so why have so many folks suddenly had an attack of the "authentics?" For gosh sakes, if ya don't like the movie, rate it low, mention a few things and get on with it. We certainly don't need dissertations and thesis attempts crafted over a movie made to take us on a journey into fantasy-land.
Give it a break already and while you're at it, give us, and Indy, a break too; we don't need to take a beating because you were expecting....what? A freaking Oscar performance out of an Indiana Jones flick?
Natural Born Komics (2007)
"Shore" Did Stink...
It's no wonder you don't see much of Pauly Shore anymore, the man's talent is nonexistent and his humor is about as original - and good - as plain oatmeal, and frankly that may be an insult to oatmeal. Pathetic skits that rip off mostly late-night, second rate junk found on obscure cable channels are about as lame as they come and elicit not chuckles but clock-watching, which almost certainly would have been a funnier skit than his poorly done and completely moronic Cock-Blockers piece. Don't waste your time here; Shore is stuck in the 80s, still as lousy as he ever was, and wouldn't know how to put out "good product" if his life depended on it.
Ricky Gervais: Out of England - The Stand-Up Special (2008)
Gervais Cracks Us Up And Leaves Us Smiling
There's something...different about the listening experience when a comedian projects with a British accent; somehow, it makes the story, joke or discussion seem more humorous to me. I discovered this oddity when I first heard John Cleese, but I really noticed it with Eddy Izzard. Gervais gets this added bonus to his already hilarious routine and when it's added to his physical delivery, it seems to elevate what would ordinarily be a chuckle into fullblown laughter. If there is any downside, it is that Gervais, like most modern comics, liberally uses curse words. That's a shame, since while they don't bother me at all, they do annoy some, thereby limiting the number of viewers. And frankly he doesn't need them in his show to be hilarious. Give Ricky a shot; you won't regret it.
