beautiful, evocative and puzzling

An abstract work comprising of long static shots of figures moving in the fore and background of an empty space holding mirrors which occasionally flash in the lens of the camera.

This film is similar in form to Jarman's Abstract Landscape paintings of the same period and, like a painting, is dependent on the materials used to achieve it's effects. In his diary Jarman wrote of this film 'this is only something that could only be done on a Super 8 camera, with it's built in meters and effects.' A beautiful, evocative and puzzling film the title of which was reworked in the script for 'Dr Dee The Art Of Mirrors and The Summoning Of Angels' in 1975 (images of this script can be found in Derik Jarman: A Portrait published by Thames and Hudson) which may give some key to understanding the film's imagery or may not
