The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
A Review and a Theory
REVIEW: This movie is beast! Everyone should see it! THEORY: I was listening to my favorite song from the movie (Poor Old Jack) and I was noticing the pattern of this song. The one lyric goes "Well, what the heck? I did my best and by God I really tasted something swell." That lyric doesn't fit the pattern of the song. It throws the rhyme scheme out of whack. My theory is that the original lyric was "Well, what the hell? I did my best and by God I really tasted something swell." This fits in perfectly with the pattern. My guess is that this was the original lyric but it got taken out because "they" didn't want "profanity" in the movie. Anyway, the next time you listen to this song think about it. You may just say I'm right.
Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967)
But the fact is, everything in this movie is thoroughly silly.
After being in a production of the stage version I decided to watch the movie. What a difference! In the stage version, the songs are much better, it makes more sense, and Jimmy's not a tool. Another thing that surprised me was that this movie got a G rating. OK. OK. Now I'm done griping. I will move on to the good parts. I liked Mr. Graydon. He was very good in this. I especially like it when Millie and Jimmy are talking about Miss Dorothy's disappearance and he's just sitting there humming "Sweet Mystery of Life." Also, I'm very glad that Milie and Trevor's exchange about Tom Sawyer was in both the play and the movie. It is, easily, the best line. Because I was seeing the movie fresh off the play I was disappointed to see such a down play of Miss Flanery's and Mrs. Meers' henchmen's character. But, because the movie came before the play I shouldn't be complaining about that...On the note of complaining I have just one more thing. In the play I liked Muzzy. In the movie, I couldn't stand her. I found her very annoying. On a one final, random note, once I had a dream that there was an extra scene in the play where Jimmy and Millie get married. Imagine my surprise to find that it's an actual scene in the movie. Over-all rating? 6/10.
Finding Neverland (2004)
I love this movie.
I love this movie. It is one of my favorites. I forget the number but I know it's in my top 10. This is one of the few movies that makes me cry. Every time Peter tell James that he can see his mother I'm a puddle. One of the things I love about this movie so much is that Johnny Depp reminds me a Peter Pan sometimes. Not growing up. Just a child really. Most people are like that. Anyway, One of my favorite scenes is when James and Mary go into their respected rooms and James's room is a park or something. The imagery in this movie is simply beautiful. Also, don't get me started about the score. It won that Oscar for a reason. Simply wonderful. I get almost chills hearing it. In short, 10/10
Azumanga daioh (2001)
I really liked this.
I really liked this. This show and I have a bit of a story. My brother showed me a clips from this show on youtube. I thought it looked interesting but no big deal. A couple years later my other brother lent me the DVD box set. I thought nothing of it except for "I'm probably never going to watch this." However, I did. I thought the first episode was strange, but cute. (Cooking is so fun!) Anyway, I kept watching the episodes and I kept becoming emotionally attached to them. I became misty when Chiyo, Yumi, Osaka, and Tomo paraded after the culture fest. I even teared up at the end of the "Sakaki special" episode. (The part where they're walking on the clouds.) I was so happy when Miss Sakaki got her cat. And I was crying at the graduation. I miss this show so much!
Twilight (2008)
Officially my fifth favorite movie.
Twilight was simply amazing. It was so interesting seeing someone else's interpretation of the book. Also, when reading twilight I couldn't picture Edward sparkling in the sunlight. It was good to have a visual aid. I know that a lot of people are bad mouthing it but really, I can't see why. It was a treat and a joy. My favorite part would be when Bella is reading about vampires and she's imagining Edward biting her and he has the dark circles around his eyes and the blood dripping from his mouth. It seemed so...Tim Burton-y...I think. Also, my favorite part of the book (when Edward spends the night with Bella) was beautifully portrayed. Now, there were only 2 things I didn't like. However, they are minor. I will be honest, I thought Jacob was ugly. However, I don't like Jacob so he can look ugly. Also, I was sad that Bella didn't say "Holy crow!" That was the only part in the book that I laughed out loud. On the other hand, this movie had some funny little moments. (Charlie with the gun for example.) All in all, beautiful beautiful beautiful...Edward is a sexy babe...NO HATERS!
Odoru meido in Wario (2006)
"It's a-wii, Wario!"
I like this game. The mini-games were fun, unpredictable and occasionally funny. The best level's would have to be a tie between Jimmy T's and dribble and spitz's. Jimmy T's because of the dancing cats. Dribble and Spitz's because of the background music. That song is just so catchy! I only have two reservations with it. First, some of the games you have no idea what to do. No good examples come to mind at this moment but I do know that these games exist. Another reservation would be Mini-Wario's boss. While this is fun I have found that the game cheats a little. It is hard to tell whether or not you have to do the actual dance move or if it's just something that the character does on the screen for filler. Other than that, good game. The graphics vary from good to bad but that is on purpose. I give this game a seven out of eight.
Cry-Baby (1990)
What can you say about a movie like cry-baby?
First, the bad: This was kind of a stupid movie. The only good parts were the parts with Johnny Depp. It was sad that he didn't do his own singing. (He was in a band for crying out loud!) Now, The good: While the movie was stupid, the plot made sense. I only saw the last 40 minutes and I knew exactly what was going on. Another (really) good part was this: Johnny Depp's pants rip off. Who doesn't want to see that? ;-) All things considered though, I would have to say that, this isn't one of Johnny Depp's better movies. It was good. It's just not up there with Findin Neverland or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or something like that. Keep in mind though, I haven't seen many Johnny Depp movies. OK. That's enough for this review.
Fantasia (1940)
Fantasia
I just saw this movie for the first time in my life yesterday. After seeing the old trailer for it I thought it looked interesting. The movie was...OK. Some of it good. Some of it boring. Others were just too long. I will try to remember them all. The first number (I don't even know what it's called): EXTREMELY BORING. Nutcracker suite: Too long! Rite of Spring: The only good part was the one dinosaur beating up the other dinosaur. Beethoven's 6th: Best one in my opinion. Socceror's apprentice: A classic. Night on bald mountain: I love that demon. (Wow. That was weird.) Ave Maria: pretty. Hard to hear. I thought there would be singing in that one. As you can see I rated this movie a '5.' I really couldn't make heads or tails of it.
Mario Party 6 (2004)
Good Game
As a big fan of the Mario Party series, I would have to say that this is my favorite. The games are fun and easy to learn. Party mode is a blast! It's an all around good game. Also, for all of you "hip-game-people" it has good graphics. (If it has good graphics it MUST be a good game.) Anyway, there were only 2 things I noticed that I found a little...off-ish. Not bad. Definitely not bad. Just off-ish. First: Listen to Daisy's voice. It's much deeper in this game than in other game's she's in. I really don't think that this is the first game Daisy speaks in. Of course, then again, I may be wrong. Secondly, there is a serious lack of Birdo in this game. I know that that's not such a big deal. However, Birdo is a good enough character. I mean, you can play as Toadette but not Birdo. OK, enough ranting. It's a good game. I like it a lot.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Man, I love this movie!
In my opinion, this is the best movie ever. Many people are complaining that this movie is "too weird." Well, yeah. It's supposed to be strange. Gene Wilder's adaptation was strange (boat scene) and yet he gets no grief. If you read the book Willy Wonka is a strange man. Also, when Charlie haters are not complaining about how weird it is they are saying that the old one is better. The old one is great, don't get me wrong. However, after reading the book you can't help but say that the new one is far superior. It's almost word-for-word the book. OK, I'm done complaining. Back to the good parts. I can't say enough good things about this movie. It was funny, entertaining, satisfying, heart-warming (sounds like an apple pie). It's an all-around great movie. One more thing, Willy Wonka is not exactly hard to look at. Johnny Depp is a very handsome man. I read in "trivia" they thought about having the rock play Willy Wonka. I'm sorry, but that is messed up. OK, maybe Robin Williams. Maybe! But not the rock! In short, this is a fantastic movie. It's my favorite.
