Lackluster and meaningless
31 March 2023
I can't recommend this movie. On the contrary: don't watch it. You will be frustrated, bad-tempered and full of rage after watching. Especially if you have seen the Luther episodes of the BBC series before. The plot of this Netflix movie is a piecemeal, cobbled together on some drawing board. The antagonist is a joke character with a completely implausible motive and the thing with the overprotective mother who made the villain what he is, namely a pathologically sadistic psychopath, is sooo trite and 1990s. Neither the protagonist - Luther - nor the supporting characters have any substance, and the dialogue is as lackluster and meaningless as a blank page.

Great Adaptation

Wonderfully visual adaptation of Stefan Zweig's chess novella. Intelligent and emotional. Reminiscent of Christopher Nolan's "Memento" and "Shotter Island". From now on I am a Philip Stölzl fan. Excellent casting. Oliver Masucci is breathtakingly good, just terrific. Go out and watch this movie.

Glorifying violence
24 February 2020
What is this this series supposed to mean? It is brutal, it is hateful it is full of glorifying violence! It wants to be a thriller but comes out as a - well, I don't know - a mixture of cheap and nasty historical drama and sleazy thriller refering to comic book heroes. After watching 7 episodes I felt angry and aggressive. I can't recommend watching this series at all!
