Only Murders in the Building: Here's Looking at You (2022)
Seriously...
Once again a Hollywood production decided to completely dramatize and demonize pregnancy and labor. If these crappy writers can't manage to even research what pregnancy and labor actually look like then they shouldn't be writing about it. Making jokes about a pregnant woman being hormonal are low bar and disrespectful to women. The first contraction a woman has is not a sudden emergency situation. Most women are in labor for hours and for a first child labor can go for 24 to 72 hours. Calling an ambulance is not necessary and neither is going to a hospital at all. Also most women's "waters" do not break at the start of labor and are often a slow trickle not a dramatic gush. If a woman's first response to going into labor is to panic and ask men what she's supposed to do then she's an idiot and shouldn't be having a child. This show was obviously written by idiots.
Vera: The Moth Catcher (2016)
Ughh
This episode yet again makes jokes about unhealthy views of childbirth. Mentions of drug use while birthing and abusive birthing practices. This episode is just another in a line of episodes that have a very backward view of childbirth. Would not recommend ant pregnant woman watching this episode as these comments can create poor images of natural birth. I encourage more writers to step outside their programming and actually learn about real birth before placing derogatory statements in their episodes. Dissapointing to see such a good show succumbing to the same misinformation as other worse shows. Childbirth is not scary and is completely natural.
The Great British Bake Off: Dessert Week (2021)
Maggie is awful...
I was so glad to see Maggie go this week. It was disgusting to hear her boast about bringing babies into the world and the miracle of delivering babies. Babies aren't packages. They don't need delivering. Midwives don't bring babies into the world mothers do. Any midwife or doctor who boasts about bringing babies into the world and delivering babies is a horrible person and condones the abusive practices that take place in hospital towards women and babies. Babies are birthed at home by their mothers. So disgusting to hear this rhetoric shoved in people's faces during a family show. Little kids shouldn't have to hear this abusive language on television.
Lightyear (2022)
Well...
Well I'm not sure what the movie was about, but they had some great secondary characters. Sox is probably one of the best characters in the movie and only because he is so ridiculous that it makes it funny. Although tied with Sox has to be Darby. She is hysterical. I love that this movie had a kick ass old women who could blow stuff up. In the end the storyline is vague, but the background character comedy is fantastic. Also for those who are freaking out about the LGBT representation in this movie. If seeing a loving couple in clips that total less that two minutes is a problem then you shouldn't be watching movies. Love is everywhere.
Gilmore Girls (2000)
Just Awful
This show is just awful. I'm not sure what to find more disgusting the utter lack of responsibility either of the main characters take with constantly ruining other people's lives or the casual way the characters degrade anything the show runner doesn't consider normal. The causal approach to restrictive eating is horrible. The conversations that occur throughout the show about pregnancy and childbirth are abusive. This whole show should be banned from being shown to anyone under thirty. I would never let a teen girl watch this show and think that anything represented within was positive or healthy. These women should be ashamed for having been a part of this show.
Gilmore Girls: The Festival of Living Art (2003)
TOXIC
The commentary on homebirth being horrifying is absolutely awful. Homebirth is the most natural thing possible. Depicting homebirth as horrifying is irresponsible. Medicalized birth is the horrifying thing. Abuse happens in medicalized delivery system everyday and shows like this are what push women into that abusive system. Television shows that are aimed at women and girls should hold more responsibility for depicting birth as a positive thing. Depicting natural birth as horrible and disgusting further degrades women. This show overall is degrading to women. Can't believe a woman was responsible for creating this shoe and I feel bad for the women who think the same way as she does.
Station Eleven: A Hawk from a Handsaw (2021)
Ughhh....
Even in a show about the apocalypse we can't get a realistic approach to childbirth. A wheelchair in the middle of nowhere and a magical tent birth center with midwives to save the day. It's ridiculous how far people will go to depict childbirth as something negative.
Uncharted (2022)
Ouch....
Could be entertaining if you can look past the crappy special effects and the complete disregard for any sort of physics. Not one thing in this movie even bothered to look realistic.
Christina P: Mother Inferior (2017)
👎
The patriarchy coming out of the mouth of a woman. Degradation of women sells I guess. Wonder how much brainwashing it takes to stand up and spew lies for money.
