its a shame movies like this don't get seen
24 October 2008
Saw this movie in Calagary and it just made me mad that you can have all the talent in the world but if you have no money it's almost impossible to get your work seen. Take "A Necessary Death" for example. These guys have worked on this movie for three years (probably for very little or no money) and have created something that they can confidently show to anyone, while other movies are made for millions and are an embarrassment! I believe they are showing it at AFI next month so I am hoping something happens for them as I will definitely be taking my friends to see it if it ever gets released. These are the type of movies that inspire young film makers to try harder because it proves that if you have what it takes you can create wonderful work with very little resources. And to think I wasn't even meant to see this movie during the festival. I just liked the name!!!

loved it!

Another English feel good movie that doesn't disappoint. While Hollywood are going for bigger is better with sequels galore and movie costing 100's of millions, "Son Of Rambo" proves that all you need is a good script, direction and a topic that people can relate to to have a successful movie. Like Stand By Me in the past the friendships formed as children are like that of no other. This film touches people as they can feel empathy or sympathy with all the characters. It is also very funny which makes the sad moments even more powerful. Life is not complicated when you watch these types of films and with all the bad things happening right now, it is a breathe of fresh air. "Happy Go Lucky" is another film in this genre that I am looking forward to seeing!!

Please Stop!!

While there is no doubt that these guys are legends of the acting world and have been in some of the greatest movies of all time I now feel embarrassed watching them in these types of movies. Like watching Paul McCartney perform on stage now, watching Deniro and Pacino trying to be cool and mysterious just doesn't do it for me. For some reason Clint Eastwood and Nicholson can still do it but thats about it. Back in the day Pacino and Deniro would come across as lunatics who you wouldn't mess with, now I just see grandfathers running around out of breathe and in need of a walking stick and because of this their movies suffer. No more tough guys please its time to move on!
