Pseudo (2020)
Perfection
Tight and efficient. Bolivian filmmaking deserves all our support and not be penalized by language barriers. Give this movie a shot, you'll be glad you did.
Stowaway (2021)
anticlimactic
I think an opportunity was missed to make a powerful point with the same script with a change in the casting: make the stowaway a white male, the commander an Asian woman and the Asian man a Black male. Seriously!
Calibre (2018)
Manipulative.
A heads-up: I miss IMDB forums, where you could just ask questions to each other (the kind that starts "Am I crazy or...?". So what you will find is not a review to make you decide whether to watch it or not, but a starting point of a conversation that, unfortunately, will never happen, because there's no platform for it.
I wanted to like this movie, but at many points I found myself wondering "Wait a minute. Why would someone do this?" only to realize it's what came next that demanded it, and it was not realistic. But I guess the director asks you to suspend disbelief pretty early on (basically, the "accident" is simply incomprehensible -- the kind that would have the forum threads pile up messages in agreement-- or at least is shot that way). The decision to flee is also unreasonable, and the director sets you up for it by saying "sometimes you behave instinctively". The thing is, everything about covering up their tracks had been so rational, it's unlikely these guys would have fled except... fleeing is required (just like the accident) for the next thing to happen. Last but not least, the "deal" is offered merely for shocking value, for the audience to discuss: the supposed "savages" giving someone a choice? Who benefits? Again: the director.
