Almost Human (2013–2014)
9/10
A great deal of well done originality
19 November 2013
I don't watch much television, I cannot remember when I sat through an entire one hour show in one sitting - they bore me - I get this feeling I've seen it all before. At 60 years plus, I probably have. But, the first two episodes of Almost Human had me watching. I especially like the narration that was prevalent in the second episode. Instead of contrived (and boring) sequences (like a one sided phone conversation) to explain where they characters are going now, someone tells you. Genius! Love it! And a great job of narrating.

Acting is very good, effects are more than adequate. A bit of a "Blade Runner" feel to the show. A touch of humor in (so far) the right places to lighten things up. I look forward to the next episode. Keep up the good work everyone.

Fight Ring (2009)

It was entertaining
19 October 2009
I watch videos to be entertained. Lots of them are an hour story stretched out to two hours. This is one of those. But you can fast forward through the talking stuff and not miss much of anything.

It has a plot, and an ending that far exceeded my hopes, expectations, and imagination. It made the most of whatever budget there was.

The fight scenes were not disappointing, some were rather comical, all the bad guys ganged up on the one good guy waiting their turn to get knocked out. My wife even said maybe they have a code that says they have to wait their turn. She even enjoyed it and hates martial arts flicks.

I figure I got my money's worth and then some. I liked it.

Flying By (2009)

I really liked it

Warning: Spoilers
This is not a big budget movie, but the director makes it work very well with his budget. The music (soundtrack) that went with it was quite good. The story has been done before - is a simple follow your dreams thing. Character development was surprisingly good, we found ourselves hoping the band would succeed. One of those "what we dream about, but life interferes" things.

Heather Locklear's character was not as well developed as a couple of the other roles, actually quite shallow and today, upon considering the character she played, well the character was shallow. Well done.

Acting was definitely more than adequate, bordering on good at times. Billy Ray Cyrus was well cast in his role, pulls off the nice guy, wanna be a rock and roll star superbly. And I am definitely not a county music fan.

I'll watch it again one of these days. I think if you are a classic rock fan and particularly if you ever had visions of being a professional musician you would enjoy it.

a terrible waste of time
9 November 2002
Ten minutes worth of story stretched out into the better part of two hours. When nothing of any significance had happened at the halfway point I should have left. But, ever hopeful, I stayed. And left with a feeling of guilt for having wasted the time. Acting was OK, but the story line is so transparent and weak. The script is about as lame as it could get, but again, stretching out the ten minute plot doesn't leave a whole lot of room for good dialogue.
