Devil (2010)
watchable but disappointing
I wasn't expecting much since it's just an "elevator horror" story. but I saw Shyamalan was part of it I thought I'd take a look. movie is just okay. to be honest i was expecting more scares. They didn't come. the scary moments were almost all in the trailer. the best part is the various killings in the elevator. everything else just felt like filler.
Maybe one problem is that it was too obvious the old woman was the devil. it gets tough to hold your attention when it's like a 'who dunnit' in that small elevator space. i was hoping it was someone else than the choices of people in there.
overall, it was watchable. but too much of a standard formula ending.
Where the Wild Things Are (2009)
below average
I love the Sendak book, but I won't tell a lie, this movie was a major let down.
The unavoidably depressing story is too overdone compared to the book. Max is okay but he's really hard to like. He is done way to bratty to buy into his world. it also takes too long to get to the fantasy. I found myself getting bored too many times when I should have been excited.
maybe this is due to the directing which was too artsy and to many angles in my opinion. I wish it had just been told without all that, just the story.
Overall, it's not unwatchable but it's not a great watch.
Hit and Run (2009)
pretty decent
Watching "hit and run" is not a comfortable experience. Beyond the obvious gut-wrenching events of the film, it will make you wonder. "What would I do in a similar situation?". the story is pretty ambiguous which is good. you don't know who to sympathize with. Emser or the girl.
One thing in my opinion is the angles. Maybe to much camera angles. it's very fast.
The lead actress does a cool job with the nature of her dilemma. She's believable.
Overall, it's a pretty decent and fun B-movie to watch.
