butter scrapped across too much bread.

I am a big fan of the anime series so when I heard about this movie I was super excited and my expectations were extremely high. And I really enjoyed the movie, though if I am being honest I felt a little let down. One of the biggest strengths of the t.v. show was that each episode was only 20ish minutes long. That meant that there was never any wasted time. Each episode could tell a cohesive story in a short amount of time. This movie just felt thin at some points because it felt like it was trying to tell a story that could have been told across 2 episodes. Also I didn't exactly feel like the story made you think either. Mostly because the theme of this movie has been addressed in more comprehensive ways in countless other shows and movies. However having said all of that I still had a blast watching the movie. The characters are still just as quirky and fun to watch as ever. The movie also has some wonderful fight sequences and the cinematography was just beautiful at certain points. Overall I think the movie does a decent job of capturing the feel of the original series. While not perfect it is still an entertaining watch that deserves at least one viewing.

just OK...

This movie is flawed. Even by super hero movie standards this movie is flawed. However I did enjoy this movie more than the 2012 reboot. What I enjoyed about the movie basically boils down to a handful of things. #1 the action. I thought the action set pieces were well done and they actually looked pretty cool for the most part. #2 I really enjoyed some of the music choices that they used in the movie. For example during spider-man's fight with electro they used dub step which I personally really enjoyed. #3 a good chunk of the jokes had me chuckling and some even had me laughing pretty hard. It is unfortunate that for all the things that were done extremely well that there were just as many flaws in the movie. #1 The story was extremely predictable. I mean my brother and I guessed what we thought would happen in the movie just based on what we saw in the trailer and we were spot on. We didn't get a single detail wrong. #2 The whole will they won't they dating game that Peter and Gwen played in the movie felt like a huge waste of time. #3 there was about 30 minutes of film that just felt pointless. Stuff that didn't lead to anything in the movie and took up time that could have been used to develop the villains/ set up other parts of the story. #4 the ending of the film should have taken place earlier in the film. If it had then we could have gotten some real development in spider-man's character. Instead all that "development", if you can even call it that it happens so fast on screen, happens in a montage. At the end of the film the list of good and bad things that I noticed in the film were about the same. I recommend that you manage your expectations of the film. If you do I believe that you will enjoy yourself. I give this movie a 5/10

Be prepared.

This movie is about as dumb as they come. That being said I knew exactly what it was going to be and I was able to get some enjoyment out of this film. I mean I already knew what the bad things were going to be when I went to see the movie. They butcher history, some times the use of slow motion could be very irritating, and there were many super obvious 3d shots in the film. However the thing that annoyed me the most was the lack of continuity with the first film. For example spartan beliefs about death and war seem to change in this film for the sole purpose of advancing the plot. I would elaborate but any more might be construed as a spoiler. That being said the movie did have several action set pieces that were entertaining and I did have fun watching this movie. I recommend that you check it out at least once. Just know that you should manage your expectations. or just mute the movie when you watch it because the dialog is pretty worthless.

good intentions but flawed
15 April 2014
This movie falls into a vast category of unmemorable sports movies. Its not so terrible that you remember it for years to come as that bad movie you had to sit through and it just made you angrier as it ticked along. Neither is it a so good it made you cry movie. This movie has a lot of heart but it is flawed. For starters most of the characters are just cookie cutter clichés that we see all over the place. The over bearing father, the misguided youth, the wise coach, the new good friends, the old bad friends, and the list goes on and on. some of the dialogue feels awkward and some of the acting was stiff. Also there were several scenes in the movie that just didn't really belong. Like they should have been taken out to allow more time for other parts in the movie. Now for the the good. There are some emotional parts in the movie and I enjoyed the high energy rugby matches. The performances were very believable and there were some nice life lessons packed in the movie, even if there were a little heavy handed. and lastly it was nice for me to be exposed to rugby. Overall I would say that this movie is worth at least one viewing. i give it a 5/10

Worth a watch.

I was surprised by many things in this move, both good and bad. This is by no means a perfect movie but it is by no means terrible. First off the good. I felt that the movie was well acted and I really felt the emotion behind most of the performances. The dialog was also pretty good. It wasn't the glossy fake Hollywood dialog that is found so often in the romantic comedy but rather it sounded more down to earth. Almost as if I could imagine these same conversations happening. Now the bad. I cannot stress how bad the story was in this movie. At least for me there were multiple moments that I felt should not have been included in the movie and when I wasn't wondering that the movie went on ahead with cliché after cliché. I don't need to spoil them for you because when you see the movie you will recognize these clichés and know exactly where the movie is headed. And I guess that is my problem with the movie is that it felt too predictable without anything really special to separate it from the rest of the movies out there. That being said I don't feel as though you will waste your time seeing the movie. Pop it in if you don't have anything better to do and I believe that you will enjoy it.

just what I expected

I am a sucker for rom coms. I am aware that many like this one are not very good. They all draw from a short list of popular clichés and then they mix them up and cast the movie with the "it" girl of romantic comedies at the moment. The clichés featured in this movie are, but not limited to; the chauvinistic man whore who acts the way he does because he was hurt, the liar revealed, the bickering couple who "secretly" love each other, and topped off with a cheesy public outburst to declare their love. The result is a generic rom com that will disappoint the film critic. I enjoyed this movie because I knew exactly what it was going to be when I saw it. Sometimes I enjoy predictable movies because I don't want a surprise. I enjoy knowing what is going to happen throughout the movie. It's like eating a frozen pizza or a hot pocket. You know it's not very good for you, some would even debate whether it is actual food, but sometimes you can't help but enjoy a substandard meal because it is a guilty pleasure. For me that is what this movie feels like. Nothing in this movie is spectacular and some of the things in this movie are down right awful. That being said I don't regret seeing the movie and enjoyed it despite its many many flaws.

Pleasantly surprised
15 March 2014
I was not expecting very much from this movie and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Don't get me wrong this movie has its flaws. The plot while not bad is fairly predictable for anyone who has spent time watching police procedural shows. Many of the characters in the film also suffer from being cookie cutter clichés with about as much depth as a puddle. You know the crooked cop who is so bad he might as well be a cartoon character. However the movie moved along at a decent pace and the dialog was enjoyable, i even found myself laughing more than I thought I would. I imagine that fans of the t.v. series will enjoy this film more than I did. If you are not a fan of the t.v. series and you go in with moderate expectations you will enjoy it.

Warning: Spoilers
This is my least favorite Marvel title. First off I am not very familiar with the comic but if this is what the source material is like then I am not missing out on anything. The plot wears very thin very quickly. The special effects looked cheesy and cheap. The action sequences were unbelievable and silly. Wolverine performs physically impossible feats, i mean even considering his mutation. Logan vs the hummer anyone. The movie was also filled to capacity with useless characters whose only purpose was to tell wolverine how to get from point a to point b. Oh and by far the stupidest part of the movie was when gambit stops wolverine from killing victor just so we could have an action sequence involving gambit. If you are older than 13 i doubt that you will get much out of this movie.

Better than 2 but...

Warning: Spoilers
while I enjoyed this movie more than Iron Man 2 it still left me with a dissatisfied feeling. The movie did have its strong points which were some entertaining action sequences and Robert Downey Jr. witty performance. Otherwise the movie was a disappointment. For starters my biggest complaint is that we don't see that much of Iron Man and when we do his suit is always running low on power or malfunctioning. Another issue I had is that the movie had useless characters who could have easily been written out of the movie or combined with another character to save on time. I also felt that the movie ran about 20-30 minutes too long. Another issue I have with the movie is if Iron Man can get thrashed around by Thor's Hammer and keep coming back for more; then why do his suits end up getting destroyed so easily in this movie? Also they bring up the fact that Tony suffers from PTSD but they don't really address it beyond bringing it up. Oh and why did Tony let the Mandarin's forces destroy his house when he had an entire army of iron man suits hidden that could have taken out the the handful of helicopters that were sent to attack him!? Overall it was still a fun ride even if the plot was like iron man's suit; barely functional.
