Pink Five (2002)
Like, may the force be with you and stuff...
Oh... my... god... like, when I first saw this, I was all like "this is really cool", and I had to tell my friends and they were all "whoa", and I was all "didn't I tell you?" and they were all "this is really cool", and I was all "I told you."
Something tells me the fabled Valley of the Jedi is home to the galaxy's biggest mall, and has produced this Valley Girl X-wing pilot. This comical short re-imagines the legendary Death Star run from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, by plopping the classic stereotypical valley girl into an X-wing and letting the fun just happen.
This short is one of the funniest I've seen, and Stokes, the director, has taken great pains to add effects that are sure to make Atomfilms contest managers to question if he used actual footage. He's done a wonderful job modelling the ships and creating the atmosphere of the original run.
The jokes are fresh and funny and you gotta feel sorry for that droid. Stokes has a winner here, no doubt.
Silent But Deadly 2 (2003)
Funnier than the first... waiting for #3??
While the first SBD tended to be funnier to those familiar with the internet fan world of the Star Wars universe, SBD2 takes a step further, and broadens it's audience. Even those who would never deign to don a robe and a lightsaber to go to the movie theater, the image of the rabid Sci-Fi fan is an easy one to conjure. And thanks to Conan O'brien,Triumph the Insult Dog, and even local news channels, the SW line fanatics are recognizable by anyone.
Great gags, loved the beach scenes with the lotion and the bermuda shorts. Lots of fun in this little short.
Let's hope they can keep it up. What's next?
Silent But Deadly (2002)
Enjoyable silent romp
Fun little gem, with a plot perhaps not as accessible to a non-internet-savvy-fan of the Star Wars trilogy... ie) one who recognizes the innate humor in the three internet targets of Lucas' hostility. Regular users of the various SW-based fan sites around the net will recognize the intent of this sketch, while those who are fans of the movies and don't wile away the hours discussing them in internet chat rooms and message boards might not.
For those of us regulars to those boards, this becomes just a bit more humorous as we recognize the targets. Fun little romp, great idea to use the silent/slapstick format..
Loved the Troopers' white SUV. Just seemed to work...
And a finale rendered funnier by the viewer's dedication to and knowledge of the creator of the Holy Trilogy...
Chosen (2001)
Actually very good
A previous review here called it the worst of them all. It wasn't that bad, though I can agree with some of the comments made. I actually enjoyed the film up until the disappointing rescue of the kid. He really should have had to fight a little more... one karate chop to the neck wasn't enough action for my taste.
However, the comments made comparing the ending to crappy Christmas specials... well... you need to take notice of one particular thing that quells any problems you may have with it...
*****SPOILER ALERT!!!!!******
Look at what is on the bandaid... The Hulk... a little in-joke about Lee's involvement directing the Incredible Hulk movie... pretty sweet little tidbit, I thought... made everything else worthwhile.
