The Call (2013)
Thrilling action movie. Worth watching, but prepare for disappointment.
"The call" has disappointed many viewers as incoherence with the characters personalities and plain nonsense is introduced in a failed attempt to create a plot twist at the end. The movie is still worth watching, though, as it is able to keep the viewer entertained and curious throughout most of the movie, with thrilling action scenes and a lot of suspense.
All main actors did an OK job. I found some scenes to have some rather unrealistic acting, although I suspect that was mostly the writer's/director's fault.
Thrilling action movie. Worth watching, but prepare for disappointment.
O Homem Que Copiava (2003)
Bad acting, rushed plot.
This movie attempts to be an adventure/comedy/romance. The story starts showing André (Lázaro Ramos), a poor and so far honest guy working at the Xerox. Every conversation he has sound like a failed attempt of acting as an introvert - which might not be so noticeable for someone who is not Brazilian or isn't used with the language and the way it is spoken here. Although Lázaro is one of the most acclaimed Brazilian actors, his performance as André was very poor compared to his other parts.
The movie proceeds to attempt to show a romance between André and Silvia, a girl he spies at and works nearby. Their conversations and moments together sound completely empty and acted.
When André decides to make money at any cost and drops his honest self the movie goes on action mode, with a rushed plot after more than half of it was just André introspecting. After much bad acting, the movie has a nice yet a bit far from reality ending.
Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)
Bad acting and rushed plot.
When I was invited to see Snow White I thought "no way I'm seeing this". Then I saw the trailer, and read that Kristen Stewart was playing Snow White. I got curious and watched it.
The plot had some minor holes and was rushed so that they could fit some scenes imagined by the writers into the original fairy tale.
Everyone who I discussed the movie with agreed that Kristen Stewart lacked grace, beauty, and talent. She just doesn't fit the Snow White part, and apparently the mockery on her not being able to smile has some grounds. I didn't like the acting on Charlize Theron as Ravenna, but that's just me. The supporting actors were pretty good, I liked the acting on most dwarfs and some other characters.
There were also some absurd scenes, like flaming arrows knocking down trees. There were some details I thought interesting, though, such as Snow White's nails being dirty. The scenarios were very (too much?) imaginative and nicely displayed.
Overall, a 3 out of 10. And it's not just me, 10 out of 12 people who I watched the movie with thought it was a waste of time and money.
Mr. Nobody (2009)
A travel through time and choices
This movie was really well shot. The scenarios are incredible, and for those who like a confusing atmosphere - you can see what I'm talking about by the number of different actors for the same character - that gets elaborated and explained with time, this is a great movie. It's similar to The Butterfly Effect, Donnie Darko and perhaps Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, because of the romance. Some compared it to Click too, which I don't think is a good comparison because this isn't a comedy.
I thought the movie was too long, though. I was kind of impatient at the mark of 90min and it kept running to the mark of 141min. I didn't like the music and some scenes of this movie, but those are details. It's a good movie, but I don't think I'd have the patience to watch it again.
Batoru rowaiaru (2000)
Not a regular movie
Battle Royale sure is a good movie, but it could be much better.
The acting isn't the best of this movie and it has some rather non-sense scenes (I don't know if this was intended or what, but I didn't like it) like the guy takes 20 shots and looks just fine, talking and everything, then suddenly he dies. Or that old "talk to the guy you're going to kill long enough so he can grab his gun from the floor and kill you" scene. The alternative history and the ludicrous situations on the other hand are what make this picture a good one.
The movie history gives space to widely explore the conflicts between the characters, which, in my humble opinion, wasn't well done by the producers - perhaps because since it is based on a novel everything was supposed to be kept as true to the book as close as possible. Anyway, although the whole movie is about those said conflicts, it could more elaborated, more chocking, or even funnier if intended.
Osmosis Jones (2001)
Educative, funny and creative
This is the perfect movie to watch with your kids. In a very creative and funny way, the producers teach us a lot about our body through the adventure of Osmose Jones, a white blood cell, and Drix, a cold pill. Both live in Frank City, inside the body of Frank, who, despite his daughter's advises, isn't very hygiene and doesn't eat well. He catches a deadly disease and, along with other characters, Osmose and Drix fight against it in a very fun to watch adventure. If you like animation and biology you'll certainly like this movie no matter how old you are. Although the acting isn't great, the movie is mainly an animation so it shouldn't be a big problem.
Mr. Brooks (2007)
4/10
This truly isn't the typical psycho movie. It barely gives us details about the psycho's routine and about the life of the detectives who chase him. Only superficial characteristics of both are shown, such as Atwood's anger over her fight with her ex. and Mr. Brooks almost supernatural ability to predict what others are thinking. There are a lot of action though. Not killings by Mr. Brooks (when there is killing, it's just an impersonal, bad acted, short scene) but mostly car chases and gun firing by Det. Atwood. But that's not it. The action scenes are lame. In the kidnap scene for instance, laws of physics don't apply. I wouldn't watch this again.
