Under Suspicion (2000)
your secrets can ruin your life
the wonderful thing about under suspicion is that people have their own interpretations for what this movie represents.and my interpretation about this movie is that it's about how pretentious people really can be.and this movie contains a message about, bad relationships, jealousy and how law has the power to ruin an innocent man's life. under suspicion is a tense movie.the movie is dialog driven but never bores you.the flashback scenes are cleverly done and it helps maintain the theme of the movie.freeman and hackman give outstanding performances, not the best of freeman but still brilliant.i expected a twist ending but was satisfied with the ending to a certain extent.but this movie would have been a lot better if they added a twist ending and added more characters. under suspicion is one of those movies that are not about the ending, but the way that the story is told,my mom wanted me to see this movie and im really glad i did.this movie is not for everyone but it is worth a try. rating 7/10.
Up (2009)
movies jump the shark too !
up,an old balloon salesman uses 10,000 balloons to fly his house to south America, and unwittingly takes a 8 year old scout kid with him.
the movie starts out great with the story of carl and ellie, the first 15 minutes of the movie has the most powerful scenes, that add a depressing tone to the movie and leave you in tears.it starts out as a story about love, hope and grief.carl's struggle to fit into modern society and how he deals with his wife's death really moved me. after the first half of the movie i was expecting to see a lot of adventure and cleverly done visuals.but what did i get, annoying talking dogs.yes, and thats when up jumped the shark. i found the concept of a man travelling to paradise in a flying house quite amusing, carl and russel were cute, but after the first half of the movie it became apparent that the writers had no idea what to do with the characters, the story introduced a villain with a bunch talking dogs ruining the tone of the movie, making it too childish.i didn't get to see nice paradise like visuals or anything adventurous, and it all seemed thrown together.the ending was emotional but that didn't save the movie for me. voices and animations were great, and michael giacchino's music set the emotional tone of the movie.overall it was an okey movie for me,not as good as the critics said it was.up is a movie that had a lot of potential, but with the attempt to make the movie funny, they runied it,but the jokes weren't even funny.if they limited the plot to carl and his flying house, russel and his family issues,it woud have made an excellent movie.which makes up one of those movies i really wish were better.all things considered,up is overrated. rating -5/10
Donnie Darko (2001)
a nihilistic movie
darko is not a troubled teenager, but someone who sees things for what they are, which leads people to believe that hes crazy. donnie darko is an experience,it makes you think about life and death. the best thing about this movie is it left me confused, making me want to speculate, thats the kinda movie i always wanted to see. jake gyllenhaal's performance is amazing, not the best i've seen but better than i expected, and the rest of the cast does a great job.the only flaw i thought it had was the performances of some of the supporting actors.other than that its a well directed, well written and a well acted movie. it was scary, weird and thought provoking.and the soundtrack really sets the mood,'mad world' by gary rules is the perfect theme song for the movie. donnie darko is not for everyone, but if you're into sci fi movies that contain more than just science, then donnie darko is for you. rating 9/10.
Whip It (2009)
could have been better
i saw this lowering my expectations knowing that it was gonna be the average teen movie.it wasn't bad but they could have made it better.more jokes, they could have made this movie more fun.there wasn't enough roller derby scenes, how they work as a team.instead they spend a lot of time developing an unnecessary love story, and focusing on ellen's boring parents.acting was okey, but the characters weren't interesting.they could have hired a better actor for the coach.ellen page does a good job and looks cute like always.but they don't develop her character in a believable manner.we don't get to see how she turned into this kick ass roller derby girl.its like they didn't know what to do with all these characters and the plot wasn't interesting either.but it wasn't a terrible movie,it was a nice movie about a cute little girl growing up in a small town and i liked it.i just wish they made it more interesting and fun. my rating-5/10
The Invisible (2007)
a different kind of movie
when i first saw the trailer for invisible i thought it was going to be a thriller/mystery movie.i was wrong.but i liked it.the first thing i noticed about invisible was that the soundtrack and the movie really matched with each other.some of the scenes were really beautiful. justin chatwin as nick did a great job.in my opinion hes one of the most underrated actors of our generation.rest of the cast was amazing too.it wasn't thrilling or funny, but it wasn't boring to me.the main appeal of this movie to me was acting and dialogs.the invisible is not a great movie, but its a good movie with good acting and a nice story about lonely people.it had its flaws yes, including below average special effects, but that didn't ruin the movie for me my rating 7/10.
Twilight (2008)
why do people even like this movie?
im from asia and in 2008 i heard about 'twilight'.saw the trailer on national TV and found out that a lot of people loved this movie.i knew nothing about twilight,i didn't even know that it was actually a book.all the hype made me wanna see it.after searching for it for months i got a dvdrip of twilight through my friends.i actually thought it was gonna be a great movie but man did it suck!. when i saw the first scene i was like is that a movie or a TV series, cause it honestly looked like a low budget movie.i thought the movie was going to get better after few scenes but it didn't.i just couldn't figure out what was the point of twilight.cause it wasn't romantic,it wasn't thrilling,it was really boring.i got nothing against romantic movies, but this wasn't even romantic.it didn't make me cry or made me laugh,it didn't have good action sequences or mind blowing cgi.whats the point of this movie.cause i felt nothing watching it.and robbert pattinson's acting was terrible, one of the worst performances i have ever seen.he looked like some creep suffering from flu or something, cause he was shivering during the entire movie and the way he asks bella 'are you afraid',that made me laugh.i was like really?.i mean this movie disappointed the hell outta me.i love movies with depth like the shawshank redemption but i also like popcorn flicks a bit,but this wasn't even a popcorn flick cause it was boring.it didn't look like 'hollywood' at all.and i mean come on,the only reason we know these people are vampires is because they say so,you don't even get to see them sucking blood.and special effects were below average.im still trying to figure out why people like this movie so much cause clearly it doesn't make you think, nor it does entertain you.i would have liked twilight if it was the only movie i had seen in my life. my rating 4/10
Hostel: Part II (2007)
you know what this movie is supposed to be like
for those who giving this movie 1s just because its gory, you know what this movie is supposed to be like.if you go to this movie expecting to see some nice guy falling in love with a pretty girl, you're stupid.hostel movies are horror movies,if you don't like them then simply don't watch them first off,i actually liked this movie better than the first one.cause this time they tried to do something with the characters, they tried to give some meaning to the plot make people think about human emotions.something that hostel 1 lacked which had excessive nudity and dumb characters.sometimes it fails miserably but sometimes it works.that guy freaking out after seeing blood and changing his mind about torturing the girl,i liked it.but his nice ass type friend who didn't wanna torture anyone ends up trying to rape a girl just because she said something that could hurt his ego, well that wasn't realistic.the last few scenes felt forced.and there wasn't enough torture.and the gum kids were unnecessary. my rating-6/10
The Core (2003)
science fictions aren't for scientists
do film makers make horror movies for ghosts?no.like that they didn't make core for science nerds.im not a scientist, nor do i want to be one.yes the science is flawed, reaching the core of the earth, empty space and diamonds?yes its not realistic at all.but its a movie, avatar is a sci fi movie, transferring brains how realistic is that? all i cared about was how this movie made me feel, the main characters were interesting, acting wasn't great but it was decent,it was entertaining, dying in a cell knowing that no ones gonna even find your body, thats dark.and they spend a lot of time building up the story, getting all the scientists and hackers together, which i consider to be a good thing its not a great movie, but its not as bad as they say it is,its an okey movie.i didn't like it when only aaron and hilary survived, like in one of those 'boy gets the girl movie'.some scenes felt forced.and only few scientists find out that the core has stopped spinning?and the team they have working on the whole thing isn't enough when the entire world is in danger. i give this movie a 6.5/10
