I just wanted to be entertained, and this movie ticked that box. While it definitely has a lot of humorous moments, I was pleasantly surprised by some of the nice little bittersweet parts, particularly between Pratt's wisecracking Garfield, and Jackson's Vic, the long missing dad that the eponymous feline seems to resent. A couple of well done bits that were surprisingly touching in a CGI flick.
There's a wealth of talent voicing the characters in this, ( Ted Lasso fans, you'll hear some familiar ones too), and it was cool seeing some of the voices (in the credits afterwards) done by some favorite people too.
There's nothing super scary in this movie, so it's a good family film for (I'd guess) kids 8 and up. A ridiculous but amusing scene in a cheese factory with Odie and Garfield concerning some factory equipment chopping and chomping stuff might make tiny kids nervous, but other than that, it's good.
Finally, Garfield is Garfield. He's a sarcastic eating machine but the movie never makes him unlikable, which I actually like. The story centers on two things: mainly on his misunderstanding his father's intentions when he was a kitten, and the action part involving a questionable dairy farm-becomes-corporate-conglomerate with a dark side.
My family and I love animal movies, whether they're CGI or real, and this movie was good way to bounce back after the dismal mess that was the Paw Patrol movie. If you want a cute and amusing film, check out Garfield.
