Nancy Drew (2019–2023)

Edgy? Dark? Puhleeze!
24 October 2019
I can't even begin to convey how disappointing this show is. Unlikable characters, needless copulation, Swiss cheese plotline, questionable supernatural elements plus bad acting all add up to a poorly written mess of teenage angst. We did not need this Nancy Drew, she's shrill, selfish and uncaring. We're sposd to believe she has the cranium power and deductive reasoning required to solve mysteries? Pfft. Laughable! Hard Pass!

New season, New attitude?
8 June 2019
Nothing is added by Netflix's inclusion of profanity for this new season. Just because you Can doesn't mean you Should. A famous adage that applies especially when it affects the tenor and tone of a show that "survived" without. It is actually distracting and takes away from the enjoyment of the show!

Don't understand the hate
23 May 2019
I just finished watching the first 2 hours and i have to say i don't understand all the hate. True this is no Indiana Jones but it was moderately interesting if perhaps somewhat implausible. This IS TV not blockbuster movie stuff. People need to get over themselves and not be so hyper-critical. TV is spos'd to be entertainment so relax and let yourself be entertained.

Better than the original but...
10 April 2016
As a Christian I applaud and uplift every effort to expose the undeniable concerted effort underway in our modern society to minimize the impact that faith has on everyday life. However this movie, while very inspirational on that level, does fall somewhat short on the cinematic entertainment level. Melissa Joan Hart gives a somewhat dispassionate performance as the main character. Something about her performance just seems to be off. The best acted characters are the 2 main lawyers. Humorous moments do help out the enjoyment factor.(Pat Boone dance!)

While the movies' story does ring true its script is average at best and lets down the picture as a whole. My biggest problem is scripturally, Christians are instructed to give God their best no matter what task they undertake, and while I was inspired by the story itself, I did not leave the theatre thinking that was the best this movie could have been.

The story is believable and is unfortunately being repeated around the USA as we speak. I embrace the story, but sadly I am disappointed in the end product. As a movie it is just average. But it is most certainly not the laughable propaganda some of the reviews are purporting. Those reviewers who are trumpeting about lies and deception and propaganda are simply blustering. There is actually nothing in the movie that doesn't pass the fact test. (This you would know if you actually watched the movie instead of just posting a hater review) These conditions do exist.

Just a little hint to close, if you don't believe "Gods Not Dead" maybe avoid the movie altogether...

Fox just sucks
18 December 2014
Like The Chicago Code, FOX has absolutely No Clue when they have a gem on their hands. A show that makes you think instead of insulting your intelligence. So many stinkers out there and this is what they choose to cancel-smh. Smart, complicated, layered characters, difficult and uncomfortable story lines. This show had so much potential, but no... Rupert Murdoch will surely remain a mortal enemy of this TV viewer. Much like when Firefly was cancelled except there has been no outcry from the masses over this show or The Chicago Code. So I guess we are essentially getting what we deserve, more and more mindless codswallop TV. More and more profane & lascivious pseudo fantasy, more ridiculous fairy tales twisted to include any and all characters. I had high hopes I thought FOX had maybe not stepped on their own ==== on this one but nope I was wrong.

Ray Donovan (2013–2020)

Mature Cable Shows are becoming very predictable
3 September 2014
I have watched the first 2 episodes of RD. The story was compelling enough for me to watch the 2nd ep. The main character of Ray Donovan played by Liev Schreiber is taut, well written & dark. A violent streak that you first think may not emerge eventually does. It is a fairly unique story-line, but beyond that the writing starts to fall apart. The secondary characters are thin and mostly contrived.

What bothers me the most is this formulaic approach "Cable" networks have to "Mature" dramas. First the more sex, references and portrayals and acts of sex the better. Sprinkle in some very street-level language and Wham you got a hit! I prefer to have my intelligence & imagination stimulated, not just my libido. This show could have been amazing, and I am going to give it a few more episodes to see if the writing and character development show potential growth. Right now its stuck as interesting BUT.....

Rupert Murdoch Strikes Again:FOX SUX
1 September 2014
I cannot believe that FOX cancelled this show. It was a smart, layered police drama that took you places you didn't know you wanted to go. Crusading police detective teaming with the female superintendent of police to root our corruption in the city of Chicago. Jason Clarke as Detective Jarek Wysocki is brilliant. He is smart, action-oriented, a little dark and has a few personality issues. Delroy Lindo is almost too good to be true as the slippery city alderman Ronin Gibbons, whose own personal grease makes his neighbourhood run, he is conniving & ruthless while appearing to be generous, benevolent and caring for the people of Chicago. Jennifer Beals as female Police Superintendent Teresa Colvin is tough, uncompromising & doesn't take crap from anyone. Her own personal agenda for cleaning up the corruption in Chicago is just obsessive. Add in a few interesting supporting characters and some deep undercover cops and this show should have stood on its own merit. But somewhere somehow some "expert" decided it wasn't working, so pull the plug. This is my own version of Firefly. Except of course I am not going to get them to make a 2 hr movie to wrap the show. Rupert Murdoch has recently been exposed as the pond scum he is. I am with Dr Sheldon Cooper, he is definitely on the "list"
