Splinterheads (2009)
Hilarious without being too cliché.
Excellent. The plot had some unique qualities. The humour is that typical late teens/early twenties, some slapstick, some fantastic low-brow. I enjoyed Splinterheads quite a bit. I laughed out loud quite a few times, despite watching the movie alone.
I think what surprised me most was that the lesser known actors/actresses and those that have been out of the game for awhile (i.e. Lea Thompson) did a great job, as did Christopher McDonald. Thomas Middleditch is perfect for the role, and I look forward to seeing him more future projects.
Racheal Taylor also great as the object of Middleditch's interest. Eye candy, while playing the role of Galaxy well.
If you're looking for a fun date movie or a good laugh, this one is a great way to spend 90 minutes. If you can't enjoy this type of comedy, it's probably not your thing.
The Rebound (2009)
Enjoyable, honest, and an often unused theme in romances
I absolutely loved this movie. Any romantic comedy fan should love this one. I'm not normally even a fan of Zeta-Jones, but she was perfect in this role, and relate-able on many levels.
This movie has substance, is heartfelt and I highly recommend it.
The child actors did a remarkable job. And Aram (Justin Bartha) is fantastic in his role as a mature 25 year old who falls for his 40 year old newly separated 'boss' as he works as a nanny to her children.
Worth a watch. The plot line is far less predictable than most of the cookie cutter films with which it shares its genre. Those who like their fairy tale happy endings might be disappointed. The ending leaves the outcome of the reunion of Sandy & Aram up to the viewer's interpretation!
I Hate Valentine's Day (2009)
Cute, quirky and entertaining
I Hate Valentine's Day meets all the romantic comedy criteria. Kudos to Nia on her directing and acting. John Corbett also did well, and it's nice to see him on screen again.
Nia Vardalos has not gotten enough positive attention for her projects. I like to see her breaking away from the Greek only theme of movies in this rom-com. I admire her pride in her heritage, but I also like to see her making films that everyone can relate to. I enjoyed My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and My Life In Ruins was charming albeit predictable. But I Hate Valentine's Day was fantastic. If this was a big Hollywood movie with an all A-List cast, everyone would be raving. Don't knock it just because it doesn't have a lead like Katherine Heigl. Enjoy it for what it is.
