No Strings Attached (2011)
Excellent, funny movie with a lot of laughter and an awesome cast!
This is going to be the funniest movie of the year! We saw a screening of this last week so I won't give out too much information. We had two screening options, "Insidious" or this movie. We chose this movie because we were more interested in a sexual comedy with Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman. IT WAS HILARIOUS! THE THEATER WAS CRACKING UP LAUGHING THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE MOVIE! The movie is basically about two friends, Kutcher & Portman, who have the hots for one another. But Portman want's a "no strings attached" purely sexual relationship. Can two people be "f*** buddies" and leave out emotions? You'll find out. Guest stars a few people, including a well done performance by Kevin Kline who plays Kutcher's pot smoking father who dates his 23yo ex-girlfriend. This is a very very funny movie. It has a lot of sexual content, a lot of bad words so it'll be rated R for sure. It's not a family movie, 17 and older, but it's definitely worth seeing because it's so funny. You will laugh your @$$ off throughout, I promise you!
I give this movie * * * out of * * * *
The Big Year (2011)
SCREENER REVIEW: Funny movie, an average J.B. movie
We saw a screening of this movie earlier this week and I must say, it was funnier than we thought it would be. For those of you who liked the movie, "STRANGE WILDERNESS" (where Steve Zahn and his film crew go on a hunt while competing to be the first ones to film big foot), than you'll love this movie. It's starring Jack Black, Owen Wilson & Steve Martin. All three (known as "bird watchers" go on a quest to find the most species of birds. However, if you do it for a year than it's an actual bird watching competition known as "The Big Year", and of course, everyone denies they're doing a "Big Year".
To sum it up real quick, it's about Jack Black teaming up with Steve Martin (who both play the protagonists) to beat the high score and reigning/defending champion of 737 birds, Owen Wilson, who is the antagonist in this movie. He lies, cheats, slows others down so he can be first & takes any advantage he can to be the first person to see or photograph a bird. The person who see's the most birds during the big year wins a title of "The Best Bird Watcher of the world".
Wilson does an excellent job playing the antagonist and it had the entire theater cracking up and laughing from start to finish. It has one F word and two S words in it, besides that, sex or violence and is recommended for the whole family. I am 100% confident that it'll be rated PG-13.
I give it *** out of *****.
Coach Carter (2005)
Good movie, but...
Samuel L. Jackson is one of my favorite actors and I absolutely respect him and he was excellent. However, the storyline drifted several times. The movie is called "Coach Carter" not "Some black man who doesn't want his girlfriend to have a baby." That's all side crap that we don't need to know. I came to watch a movie about basketball and see Mr. Jackson kick some ass, not see some 25yo men play 18yo's in another version of Dawson's Creek, also known as, Adults who pretend to play Teens.
Overall, the movie was good. I loved Mr. Jackson, he was excellent. At one point I almost expected to hear, "I don't remember asking you a god damn thing... sirs."
It's another one of those, because your black you deserve better type movies.
Sameul L. Jackson's performance was very well done, I give him a 7.5 of 10. The movie itself I give 3 of 5 rating.
Be sure to bring your disrespecting teenage son or daughter when you see it so you can give them a lecture after the movie about staying in school and learning to respect adults.
Ned Kelly (2003)
An unbelievable shocking film! Must see!
First of all, I'm in the USA. I got a DVD screener of this sent to me from a friend in a different country.
My first thoughts were, "It has Heath Ledger, this film must suck."
Ladies and Gentleman, never judge a book by its cover.
When I saw this movie, I was amazed. I saw the ending three time. The ending made me just about cry. You begin to love the characters.
As soon as I saw this, I came to the Message Board and was amazed to find out it's not even released in the USA yet. Imagine that! I saw a movie a long time before it came out.
***POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD***
I'll give a brief summary. Ned Kelly (Ledger) has a good life. Because of a "bad cop", he turns to stealing horses.
His mother is arrested so him, Joe Byrne (Orlando Bloom), Steve Hart (Phil Barantini), Aaron Sherrit (Joel Edgerton) become outlaws, killing policemen and robbing banks. At the same time, Supt. Hare (Geoffrey Rush) has a man hunt going on to catch these guys.
However, I did hear that Ned Kelly was an evil person who murdered. The movie portrayed him as a "Hero" type figure.
The ending was simply amazing. I couldn't believe it. Heath Ledger can act! And does an excellent job!!!
Rated R (USA) for Brief Nudity and Graphic Violence. My Rating: 8/10
Hatred of a Minute (2002)
Stupidest movie ever seen
This movie was so predictable. Its a complete rip off of those, "I was abused by daddy I'm gonna kill women" movies. Stupid scenes, bad acting, unoriginal storyline, really low budget piece of crap film.
Don't waste your time people. Trust me.
My rating: 0/5.0
Hannibal (2001)
Good one time showing
Here is the good and here is the bad, straight up.
*POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD*
Good:
1. This movie is strictly about hunting down Dr. Hannibal Lecter. None of that "Help me find so and so killer Dr. Lecter."
2. It does have some Gory graphical scenes.
3. The acting is pretty good.
Bad:
1. They used Julianne Moore instead of Jody Foster for the part of FBI Agent Clarice Starling.
2. In Silence of the Lambs, Clarice Starling (Jody Foster) was really "good hearted." She didn't seem so aggressive to killing people. In "Hannibal", she receives a congrats to being the #1 FBI Agent who kills the most people. Not really good thing.
3. I didn't like how Hannibal had a soft side to Clarice. This guy is a serial killer who has no mercy on his victims. Yet he is so utterly in love with Clarice its ridiculous.
Overall its good to watch for the first time. After that I wouldn't see it again.
My Rating: 3.0/5.0
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
Good Movie for 20 year sequel
One of the greatest all time horror movie series ever comes back 20 years later.
Alot of sequels take place within a year or two after the movie. In some cases they even try to say it took place five or 10 years later which kills the realism affect.
*POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD*
In my opinion this movie is great. It takes place 20 years later after Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) escapes from her brother, Michael Myers. She has changed her name and presumed the life of Karie Tate. She now has a son who is 17 (Josh Hartnett) who wants his mom to let go of her horror of her returning mass murdering brother.
You can pretty much guess everything that happens before it occurs just like most horror movies.
However, the fact that it takes place 20 years later makes it an awesome flick to enjoy. On a scale of 1 to 5, One being not scary at all and Five being Scary as Hell, it rates a 2.5.
Being a Halloween / Michael Myers fan myself (every Halloween I use my Myers mask to scare the young kiddies), this movie is great.
If your looking for a SCARY movie that will keep you guessing this may not be your type of movie. However, because it is part of the Halloween series, its great to watch.
My rating: 2.5 / 5.0
