Horrible Bosses 2 (2014)
Absolutely Horrible!
I watched and thoroughly enjoyed the first Horrible Bosses so was ready to be entertained when this came out.
Circumstances meant I didn't get to the cinema to see this as planned. Boy, was I lucky. I would have wasted my £10.
Awful plot line; disjointed story; pathetic attempts at humour; Boring!
Not very often that I turn something off because I really can't stand it, but this was once.
(NOT REALLY SPOILER) . . . I mean, if you've seen the first HB, the toothbrush scene was hilarious. Whoever thought it would be funny to redo it - give me a break! . . (END OF NOT REALLY SPOILER)
Do yourself a favour and give this one a miss. Now you've read this you'll probably watch it as you don't believe it can be that bad. Well you'll be back and comment for the first time, just to agree with me!
Horrible Bosses (2011)
The funniest movie I've seen in ages
Went to a Sky preview screening not really expecting too much and without bothering to read about it before I went. Took my 19 year-old daughter with me.
Frankly, we had a great time. There were laughs to be had often enough and well enough spaced for me to be left with the impression I had been amused all the way through the film.
A good cast, used well and situation after situation that contrived to put the protagonists in difficult and funny situations. I often worked out what was coming but only just before it occurred, soon enough to confirm my suspicion but without me ever feeling it was totally predictable.
I have seen a number of movies used in descriptive reviews and I can relate to many of them. To me as I left the cinema I thought it was a cross between The Hangover and Lock, Stock. Not directly but enough for me to make those connections.
My view? See it. It will be worth the time for the smile you'll feel afterwards.
Nighthawks (1981)
Reasonable fare
A reasonable, if uncomplicated, story. Stallone delivers his lines with his usual monotone aplomb! Well directed and some interesting camerawork and effects.
My main gripe... Where on earth did the score come from? That has to be the most annoyingly innapropriate background music ever used in a film.
Good entertainment, if a little predictable.
Frequency (2000)
Shout at the screen!! I did!!
I had never seen any trailers or read any reviews of 'Frequency' so when it was there to be watched on a Saturday evening on a satellite movie channel, the synopsis sounded interesting so I settled down to watch 'another movie'.
Boy, did I get a surprise. My wife was working in the other room and half way through the film came in to see why I was standing up shouting at the screen! "SATCH! LOOK AT THE BASEBALL GAME ON THE TV FOR THE SHOE POLISH BALL... NOW!!", I shouted! I have never got so wrapped up in a film before that has caused me to react in such a way.
A month later it was repeated and my wife and eldest child sat and watched it with me to see what all the fuss was about. Like I had been (and was again) they were completely engrossed and openly declared 'frequency' to be a massive hit and 'one of the best they had ever seen'.
After scanning some reviews on IMDB I cannot understand what some people expect from a movie. If I want to be factually informed, I watch a documentary or read a book. If I want to want to watch something that accurately reflects reality, I watch a 'fly on the wall', or read a biography. If I want to be entertained, I watch a movie. One thing for sure is that 'Frequency' entertained me thoroughly and moved me too and, unlike the grizzlers of this world, I am not ashamed to say it.
It has suspense, emotion, plot twists, characters you like and an enjoyable ending. What more could you ask for. Its a sad reflection on our society that some people actually wanted a different ending.
Its an excellent movie that will be in my DVD collection by lunchtime Monday. Amongst my top three ever, I will watch it again and again.
