An error has ocurred. Please try againFeel free to intersperse your watching with documentaries I list here. These will keep your feet firm on the ground i.e. to see for yourself how greedy corporations & banks have real-life destructive repercussions on our lives. Let's hope that given the choice, the next generation will not screw the world over just for a few more dollars! Last Bubble: 2008. Next Bubble: 2024.
Please sort my list by "Date Added." This way you will see the most recent addition to my list. Enjoy!
Since there aren’t that many hacking movies around, I had to loosen the definition of hacking to include different genres of hacking (whilst trying to keep this list cohesive but most likely failing badly haha.).
This list of movies won’t teach you how to hack. If you’re young then you will find all this very cool, futuristic and won’t question the veracity of these movies (I know I didn't). Sadly when you get older, you start taking a deeper look at things and realise with regret how laughable all these English majors/story-writers are at writing technology scripts.
The problem is that real hackers or engineers can't really write stories without making things choky and boring (for example this very intro) and English majors lack all manner of practicality and think that owning a smartphone makes them a hacker so they write stories about what we do.
I cannot crown any single hacker movie made as the best. They all lack in "something" to make them a great movie for the ages. But I hope my list will satisfy any nerd, tech savvy person, gamer, programmer, virtual reality fan, pre-university and univeristy IT/Software Dev/CompSci/Engineering students. If you think I missed a movie title, just drop a comment below.
EOL.
(I am so glad I made this list before long Covid made my long term memory flaky. I’m having to use my own list now ☹️).
I didn't include "Idiocracry" because hibernating oneself and waking up in the future doesn't count in my opinion. However if you travel to a parallel universe which is set in the past or the future, then I bend the rule but strictly speaking this is not time travel. I didn't include "Dr Who" because I never liked this series.... too insulting to one’s intellect.
I hope you enjoy this list. The difference between A.I here and A.I on the hackers list is that this A.I has a human or physical form. In the Hacker's list, the A.I is pure software.
Let me know if there's anything I missed. x

Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
What an awful rehash of the old movie
I waited so long for this sequel and my honest opinion is that it is pure garbage (they made a 2022 version of the old Top Gun movie). Half of the movie is stupid internal conflicts and a love story with a bad bad actress. The other half is similar but worse than the original Top Gun training movie. I can't believe they re-included the beach volleyball scene. One could seriously edit down this movie to 45-50min and make it snappy to keep the audience hooked.
Tom Cruise looked like a used car-tyre throughout. His eyes and body language indicated to me that he wasn't even keen on doing this movie. Everything was so predictable (US "good" army guys will take down the threat of a hostile foreign nation. Yeah we all saw what you did to Iraq and its oil). I stopped watching at a little bit over halfway mark. I just couldn't care if the newly trained team would be able to accomplish the 5-7G manoeuvres to take down the nuclear facility.
Truth Seekers (2020)
Room For Improvement
I feared it would be some social-justice garbage but surprisingly they managed to avoid this trap. The BAME and Female characters act well and give credibility to the story rather than being token characters. But it is Nick Frost (the repair guy with a penchant for supernatural investigation) who carries the whole thing. Simon Pegg has a minor role on account that he is probably busy with new Star Trek movie.
It is not a fast paced movie. I think this is deliberate so you will come back and watch it. It is created by same guy who made Shaun of the Dead and World's End. It is a comedy but with serious stuff too. Don't go expect Stranger Things. It won't bore you to death with social-justice silliness so relax and enjoy. All in all, a good easy going Halloween series given pandemic raging outside our door.
Shifter (2020)
More Wokeness
Imagine being a writer/producer with a warped vision of the world, i.e. men are bad. Then you create this cheaply made time-travel movie using a very odd-looking woman who works at an all-female warehouse and whose encounters are other odd women at the library but bad men at the bar. Either we have a woke opportunist as author/producer or this is really what he wanted to portray. Take a man's story and adapt for women because this is the time we live in right now.
The only reason I gave it a break=even score is because it has some gripping element. You will watch this without twitching for your phone or wondering what else is going on. I can stipulate how important it is to hook the viewer and keep them watching. This is why I ended my Netflix subscription. I started getting bored and they become to feminist woke.
Please watch "Source Code" after this. It will be like mouthwash for your brain.
The Salisbury Poisonings (2020)
Very gripping from the start
It is in line with "Bodyguard" and "Chernobyl." But the writers, most likely feminists from the left or a group of women, asked themselves the question "How do we make this about a woman?" The main lead is a boot-faced woman with very little charisma and represents PH Wiltshire (Public Health). She seems to be at the centre of this nerve agent puzzle, most likely the one who will solve it. Give me a break. They did the same in Chernobyl series. The one woman you see prancing about, helping out in the nuclear disaster, was not real. She is a substitute for 20 Russian male scientists who gave their life to fight this disaster. This my friends is how modern writers are skewing, destroying and re-writing history in the name of feminism. Absolute tripe.
Inheritance (2020)
Nothing To See Here, Move Along.
How do you watch a whole movie when the face of Lily Collins annoys you right from the start. A little girl-looking woman with bad lipstick and really poor acting skills is in no way a good hook for the audience. I stopped watching by 3rd minutes. Must be some kind of record. Sorry Simon Pegg, I tried. Get woke, go broke!
Greed (2019)
A Great Docu Movie - Bring It On!
I breezed through first 30 minutes without noticing the time go by. Just needed a beer refill so I thought I would type my positive review of this movie.
The movie is a bit dear to my heart as I used to be a big time fangirl of Topshop from 2006-2012. They changed the name of everything in this movie to avoid lawsuits but to those in the know, it will be very apparent which is which.
It is sad what Sir Philip Green did to businesses he acquired. Asset stripping is what he does. But raiding the pension pot was new. He destroys businesses to make more money. He is the unacceptable face of British capitalism. Most likely a celebrated in the US. The good thing is this docu-movie doesn't lay it on you like a dreadful and heart wrenching Michael Moore documentary. Greed (2019) is very light-hearted and enjoyable.
I hope Steve Coogan enjoyed making it. It is not "Four Lions" level of funny but for what it is, lock-down and all, very enjoyable. I might watch "It's All Gone Pete Tong" right after this.
Guns Akimbo (2019)
Made my head hurt
If you have seen movies like "Gamer," "Nerve" or "Ready Player One," then this is nothing new or exciting. It is mixture/reboot of all these previous movies but with the main bad-guy being a girl. I am sure I would have found her amazing if i went back to being a high-school boy. The movie is wrapped in animations which millennials will surely feel accustomed to but the story in itself is very thin and predictable.
Altered Carbon (2018)
You will now cherish Season 1
Season 2 is hard pill to swallow. Unwatchable unless you force yourself.
I understand that Netflix is in bed with the left so their ideologies must be pushed through everything Netflix makes. I won't be surprised when customers leave this horrible Netflix because it has become unwatchable. Altered Carbon is another of their experiments. They removed the person who made Season 1 so amazing and legendary, and replaced him with people more to do with a mission statement of diversity and such baloney. Please don't get me wrong, I am Indian of origin but this, whatever Netflix is doing, is repugnant.
Restaurants on the Edge (2019)
So awful
I was amazed this came out of Netflix. It is a formulaic series based on restoring a failing restaurant business. It has zero entertainment value compared "Gordon Ramsay's 24h to hell and back" or "Gordon Ramsay Kitchen Nightmare." The 3 hosts have zero likeability or TV-presence. I stopped watching when one of them was buying fish at the market. I value my time too much to watch this. All in all, this series belongs in the bin, much like the restaurants they are trying to save.
After We Leave (2019)
Waste of time
When you reach halfway point of this movie, you will realise that nothing has really happened in the story. He is still looking for his wife because only couples can leave. I have never been so bored. Please don't waste your precious life watchig this drivel. Go build a solar array or a rain-water collector for your hydroponic farm.
Intelligence (2020)
The Cringe
Within first 3 minutes, you will understand that this is another "wokeness" infested TV-series - more women than men, etc, etc. This is another box ticking exercise to please a minority of nasty leftwing progressives on Twitter. David Schiwmmer is possibly the worst part of this show. I have no idea how managers at Sky green-lighted something so despicably awful. I am frankly gobsmacked.
Currently, BBC's license fee is in jeopardy for going woke. Now I hope Sky will lose subscribers over such garbage too. Goodluck not pleasing your customers (who for the most part, work and don't stand for woke culture).
The Witcher (2019)
How Do We Inject Feminism Into Everything....
And ruin perfectly good high-testosterone series involving magic and fighting armies? How do we enact ideologies of social justice so weak women or child even can be as strong as men? When in fact all battles have been fought by men, even modern day police fighting dangerous thugs and street riots. Let us be feminist re-writers and ruin everything. This to me is definition of a true monster.
I hope thousands of subscribers will be alienated enough by now and won't renew their subs to this compromised Netflix.
Invasion Planet Earth (2019)
Was this a school project?
I have no idea how in this day and age, one can get things so wrong. For one thing I was expecting a comedy because Brits CANNOT DO action movies or space scifi for that matter. But if they make a comedy scifi such as "Hitchhiker's Guide To Galaxy" or "Absolutely Anything," then it is absolute heaven to watch.
Cosmos (2019)
Very Interesting Astronomy Movie
I will not lie to you, it is a slow movie. You may even wonder if it is British version of Broke Back Mountain or when Big Bang Theory nerds drove out to see a meteor shower. With a 2h runtime, you may need multiple breaks and come back. But it is good wk-end movie.
By 50th minute, everything should kick in and you will want to find out what is behind glitch on the colour map produced by the 2 radio telescopes and why the Goodman satellite vanishes on screen and comes back.
I am writing this review as I reached the end of the movie. The radio guy has 10% battery left on his laptop and an alien response of binary Arecibo message will be lost forever. Good movie involving 3 guys in a car but a bit long.
See (2019)
Blind people?
If Apple thinks I will watch this steamy pile of dung, they are greatly mistaken. Am sorry but at 5min mark I decided my life was worth more than sitting through the rest of this SJW crap.
At least when Amazon commissions original series, they made sure the concept was down-to-earth or reasonable. Clearly, Tim Cook should be sacked in disgrace from Apple.
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)
This a movie. It cannot have TV-series cliffhangers.
I was furious when yesterday's newspapers were reporting that it was a boring sleepy movie. I watched it and loved it. I wasn't bored a single moment. At no time did I expect a remake of or similar-style "Breaking Bad TV-series." This show is over. BB gem was made and is in the past now. If you have Breaking Bad withdrawal syndrome, then watch that "Better Call Saul" tv-series. But better still re-watch Season 5 of BB before El-Camino.
I think we live in a world where young internet-born critics don't understand what they are watching. Expect a lot. Much like PC babies from South Park. Just realise that sometimes you have to watch something someone made for you, and understand what is being conveyed. Have another watch next week, different day, different time of day. Maybe your opinion will change. Your state mind will determine your enjoyment. State of mind changes every hour.
The Art of Self-Defense (2019)
Kept Me Wanting To Find Out What Came Next
The idealistic ending was both unrealistic and hilarious, well in keeping with the rest of this dark comedy. The ending wraps up the whole movie nicely and without a fuss. Many of you, including me, took karate because we were being bullied at school. Remember that this movie is a comedy. Please do not take law into your own hands as this is illegal.
I am a staunch anti-feminist person and this is my review.
Another Life (2019)
Netflix = Garbage
If by 15th minute you are not filled with repulsion for the female characters and the men-hating story (i.e. men are stupid and are incompetent), then there is something very wrong with you. I am not sure I will watch beyond episode 1. As others are rightly asking "Who wrote that Netflix garbage?"
Chernobyl (2019)
Very Moving
I have never felt so emotionally moved by a TV-series and right from episode 1. People who complain about how long each episode are, should be frankly be sl*pped in the face. Go watch your Netflix children series why don't you.
The atmosphere in each scene of this series is so dense, you could cut it with a knife. Very quickly you are thrown into the story as if it was happening for real and in real time: "A nuclear power plant just blew up, what do we now??!" The last time I was glued to TV like that was during 9/11.
Jared Harris should get many awards for this. I loved the accent and attitude of the coal miners a lot. I am so happy the director/producers selected regional actors up and down UK (maybe) to represent their Russian counterparts.
Many parts of each 1h episode made me very emotional. It is a human tragedy beyond belief. A first of its kind on planet earth (back then). My thoughts and prayers go to all brave Russians who gave their life to contain the nuclear fallout. May god bless your souls. Rest in peace.
Annihilation (2018)
Within First 30min You Will Be Clued Up To How Bad This Is
Maybe like me you were fooled into watching this because you thought "how bad can a move by director of Ex Machina can be?" I am now learning that producers put this line on the cover when a movie is especially BAD.
US movie makers have been going through a lot of forced changes since early 2016. A breed of reviewers calling themselves pop-critics wanted more women in movies just for sake of being a woman, not talent or skills. You know who they voted in 2016 US elections.
This lack of good acting and talent cannot be more apparent from watching Natalie Portman's from very beginning of the movie. Why would anyone hire this bad actress beggars belief. Then she meets the director of the exploration team - a woman. And before the mission, she meets another 3 other female biologists (in a scene where I counted 7 women and 3 men). You cannot make this type of blatant discrimination up. Somehow you the viewer are being brainwashed to believe that these women will succeed where trained military and male scientists have failed! I now understand what was meant by "where laws of nature don't apply anymore." This movie is in same category as all-female Ghostbusters and latest Star Wars by JJ Abrams. It is about pushing an ideological agenda rather than a story.
But let me go back to the beginning. The first few scenes of this movie is a right rip off of the great movie "The Signal," a movie I thoroughly recommend you to watch to come out of the depression and coma that Annihilation will induce you into. I am giving this dull movie 1 out of 10 as it lacks all manner of credibility, passion, action and good acting. Get your money back.
Burnt (2015)
Hollywood Struggles With Foody Movies
Don't waste your time with this. It is an absolute stinker. There is no originality, twist or depth. Bradley Cooper was clearly wrong choice for this movie. I absolutely saw through his bad kitchen acting. Yuk.
The movie is served as is - a gluing up of events and recounts of what they've been told goes on in a Michelin restaurant. Well, big whoop! They have all the elements but they assembled it as a child would when playing with Lego. This is not story telling. Gordon Ramsay may be a great chef but I wouldn't trust him to be a good scripter or actor (Just grab a vomit bag and watch "Love's Kitchen (2011)"). So take the nuggets of information and work on it until you get something solid. Don't rush. People like foody TV-series and there ain't that many movies on food/restaurants. So take your time and make a good impression.
To be honest, I did not have much hope given how other restaurant movies were giant disappointments. In my opinion it is modern, yes, but it is worse than "The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014)" or even "Love's Kitchen." Utter rubbish. I found "Burnt" really predictable. The producers didn't factor in how much ground TV-series on food have covered, and how this could make their movie completely un-original.
If you want to wash your eyes and ears after this, please consider: Chef (2014) or Ratatouille (2007). Chef movie even has a great soundtrack which I bought digitally on Amazon.
300: Rise of an Empire (2014)
Worst movie of 2014?
I wanted to rate it a big fat zero but sadly IMDb's lowest score is a 1. This is really unfair as a zero or negative number would more accurately describe my feelings for this horrendous piece of trash.
This movie should be a good discussion starting point on why IMDb needs to implement a scoring system which goes to -10. Movies like 300 Rise of An Empire, Sacry Movie 5 and Haunted House 2 really beg for negative marks.
Everything in that movie is bad and predictable. It's almost like they hired a child to write the story (which according to some IMDb reviewers does not even reflect what truly happened). The main actress was a pain to watch and listen to. The action scenes wreaked of 3D and not the good type of 3D. Everything dragged on and on and on, making me scream "When will this garbage end!" There are people dying of hunger in Africa but this sequel found the millions of dollars it needed to get produced. May God have mercy on us!
Before Midnight (2013)
Avoid and you will be happier!
Usually when the director happens to be one of the writers too, you can expect such heights of boredom and nonstop drivel. Don't get me wrong, I like this genre which I call 'yappy dee yap' movies. Movies which are about lengthy blabber, random tantrums and pointless conversations. Movies with no backbone except for chit chat. I loved the following:
- "Before Sunset" which seemed to have a point or driving towards one.
- The excellent "2 Days in Paris" and its inferior sequel "2 Days in New York."
- Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris."
- "The Trip (2010)" with British comedians Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon.
But "Before Midnight" is just too much. Every 3 minutes I felt like screaming "Will you please SHUT UP!" This is not a good sign. It reminded me of young me being stuck at the dinner table with boring self-castrated adults. Every now and then my imagination worked on how the movie would greatly improve if a tractor rammed into the (cliché cute) twins or if the roof collapsed on the old people at the lunch table. How about if the couple brought varying degree of bad luck everywhere they went but they didn't know it was their fault until it struck midnight and a giant meteor fell on their head? That alone would have kept my interest up instead of downward sloping.
I think the yapping was way over the top this time and nothing really happened in the movie. It's crossed the line of truly annoying and irritating. Even the nude topless scene was too much and disconnected with the rest. I cannot connect with the characters, their life or the story. If that couple were my friends, I would never invite over and permanently hide their status updates on social networks.
Shi er shengxiao (2012)
What an absolute waste of time
I've seen some of the 21st century Jackie Chan movies and they were light and fun. A good watch when you have nothing else on. This one, "Chinese Zodiac" isn't one of them. It is mostly about gimmicks and technology gizmos that make sounds and bleeps. There's no intelligence gain in watching this. And clearly they went over the top with tech. The story itself is a let down. At first I thought of the old "Dragon Ball" series but the quest was nothing like that or as exciting. I've never felt so dis-interested in watching a team trying to find and re-unite some lost bronze heads.
There're I thought that Chinese movies would attempt to be purer and less shallow than Hollywood's worst movie in this category. It wasn't the case, they went even cheesier and shallower. This movie will surely make some 7 to 10 year old very happy (or someone with that level of mental faculty).
Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)
The 99% want their money back!!
This 4th sequel is absolute rubbish. If I watched it in the cinemas, you can be sure that I'd have walked out after 10 minutes to get my money back. It is that bad. You don't have to watch much to know how excruciatingly horrible this movie is. I can't believe how they even got the money to produce it or who was stupid enough to blindly put money into this.
Milla Jovovich is at her worst but this is only normal. At first I thought she lost weight but it was just the long hair. With the tom-boy hair, she looks fatter. Her acting is not up to scratch at all, actually you can plot a graph of her gradual worsening from the 1st movie to this one (rock bottom). Most of the action scenes make no sense and produce the yawnies. I'm not going to elaborate. Stay away from this pile of fecal matter. I wouldn't watch it or stream it even if it were free.
