Holes (2003)
Excellent all around movie
It's not too often that a film is made that is good family entertainment without being sappy or overly predictable. This film has a good story, excellent acting, especially Jon Voight, and is funny without resorting to stupid "Home Alone" type antics. This movies is billed as a family movie but is definitly worth watching for people of any age group.
Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)
Now What?
There are two things that stand out about this movie. One is that it is the epitome of gratuitus violence and is only for those that want to sacrifice story for gory special effects. The second important point is that the movie was deliberately chopped in half in order to cash in on those drooling gore seekers that are too ignorant to realize they are being had. I expected more substance from Tarantino than mindless violence. Pulp fiction had lots of violence but it had it's place in that movie. This film is pandering to the lowest common denominator. Save your money.

Carrie (2002)
Brutal
I fail to understand why someone would want to re-make a classic movie like Carrie. It almost always ends in a failure. This is no exception as we see a rather lame attempt. There are 40,000 new screenplays written each year; some of them very good, and only a few hundred get made. Why cant producers and directors give some of these original stories a chance instead of wasting our time butchering stories that have already been done well.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)
A good film
This is the first film in a while to be funny, have a story and not be filled with gratuitus sex and foul language. I hope this is hint to writers and directors that they do not have to pander to the lowest common denominator to make a successful film. Good job.
The Banger Sisters (2002)
Brutal
It's a shame that two such talented actors as Sarandon and Hawn would allow themselves to be cast in such a dreadful movie. The basic premise of two former sluts getting together again after many years is pretty sad. I assume the writers felt it was funny to have the "sisters" keep a collection of photos of the penises of old time rock stars. This film should not have made it past the idea stage.
