Yellowjackets (2021)
I think I'll pass
I really love the cast but this show doesn't seem to live up to the hype. Two episodes in and we learn that one of the characters destroyed the black box so these people will be left stranded. Such an incredibly dumb plot twist. This is definitely leading to cannibalism. Next.
Alien Encounters (2012)
First contact mediocrity
This series is just okay. First, it's incredibly boring to watch through the lens of what we now believe could be possible. I'm sure that if a race of aliens was this mediocre, it would take them a long time to get here. Maybe they would have to make their presence known because they are so slow? Lol. So, I guess this is bracing us for first contact with a race of that nature. Meanwhile, people all over the world, including the militaries of every country have been dealing with contact from aliens that probably don't take so long get here. Millions of years of advancement can do that. Maybe we have to realize that aliens may not care enough to address us all at once like in the movies.
Fifty Shades Darker (2017)
I've seen worse.
Everyone likes to dump on this movie. Many of the references are from the first. I think people forget the dynamic. The movie is supposed to be about somebody very damaged and somebody not so damaged falling in love. Not a difficult concept. Yes, its kinda weird. Yes, I do wish that the script was 1000 times better. All in all, I've seen Adam Sandler movies that were much worse than this movie. I think the script for The Last Airbender was worse than this. I thought that this movie was actually a little refreshing after the last. Though, the last movie seemed to have a better script.
Snowboard Academy (1997)
This Movie Rocks!
We all know that Jim Varney has constructed a career out of annoying, unexceptional, and almost slapstick comedy; a deadly combination. There is supposed to be some kind of hidden comedy (think Letterman) in Jim's seemingly desperate attempts to be funny and pseudo incompetence. He plays an incompetent safety engineer and entertainer...surprised? The focus of the movie is on many characters, not just one or two. The other characters are actually comedic. Slush is probably the funniest character in the entire movie. Overall, it's pretty good and the sound-track kicks ass. The plot is decent (for the time) and improbable yet not impossible. Refreshingly, there is no guy trying to get a girl.
Donnie Darko (2001)
10 Stars
This movie presents coherent views on social and family interaction, religion, space-time, the overall gullibility of the American public, school politics, and how American culture destroys beauty. It touches on these subjects in a classy yet comical way. A general understanding of space-time is not needed, though, it is taught in grammar school. If you know what a black hole and a worm hole are, and understand how society operates...understanding this movie should be cake... This movie is made to be understood when viewed the first time. If you watch it a second time, try to look for symbolism. It can be a horror for some; everything in the movie can be explained scientifically.
