Komm näher (2006)
A beautiful movie with an excellent performance from all actors
I saw this movie on a flight sometime ago. I don't speak or understand German as such and I was mainly motivated to check this European category out because my girlfriend is from Germany. On retrospect, I am glad that I did so and also persisted, even though I hadn't ever heard of it before.
The movie poignantly deals with the subject of loneliness in forms that range from early adult disenchantment, midlife crisis to teenage angst. This emotional theme is depicted through the life of 3 sisters - Johanna, Ali and Mathilda, revolving around the struggles they are undergoing in their personal relationships. As such, every single character in the movie acted brilliantly and the language barrier did not remain imposing enough for me to understand and appreciate this work. In fact, I am quite inclined to watch other works of the director Vanessa Jopp now.
Foolproof (2003)
Deserves a place in top 250!
I just loved this movie & would regard it as one of the best of it's kind (like the old vintage stuff of Dumb Rotten Scoundrels, The Italian Job etc.). The plot is full of thrilling & subtle twists and the fast pace of the movie keeps you hooked until the end [and if you do get bored, then you have the gorgeous Kristin Booth to admire :-)]
Though numerous dialogues are quotable, but the one when Kristin blurts out in exasperated anger "That little thief!!!!!! there should be a law" was absolute lolll stuff.
The Blues Brothers (1980)
sheer wastage of time !!
This movie can't cater to an international audience and/or the modern generation except for an instance or 2 (like the Nazi Captain's reminisceces of Hitler et al when his car's flying in the air). It's extremely difficult to relate to the gen're of music of those times and hence if that involves any humour then it's as good as redundant. And the exaggeration (helicoptors, tanks etc.) in the end can make anyone clutch his/her hair in agony. Because of this lack of explicit humour & implicit humour probably being too implicit, I found the movie pretty boring.
October Sky (1999)
excellent work
Definitely one of the best movies I've ever watched ! The struggle for realising one's ambitions in face of so many hardships, to keep on pursuing one's objective doggedly and not let your will welt under pressure...... The movie's simple but offbeat storyline amalgamated with the excellent piece of acting by Homer's character makes it worth to watch. Go ahead friend....don't wait now !!
