Curb Your Enthusiasm: No Lessons Learned (2024)
Genius has a name. It's Larry David
I am glad that I did not read any spoilers prior to seeing this epic episode. How much can someone cram as many of the shows highlights, juxtapose with the appearance of Jerry Seinfeld, along with the opinions of the last Seinfeld episode, Larry David's history of not giving a damn about anything, but questioning everything whether it was his view of today's world and it's events during his various seasons, from the sublime to the ridiculousness of certain subjects and what really should have happened on the final episode of Seinfeld and Jerry saving the day for Larry. This episode really showed the relationship that Larry and David have in life and it was great to see that as a finale. It was bittersweet to see Richard Lewis in his final appearance in the entertainment world and he did not disappoint but continue his legacy. The rest of the cast was top notch and as a fan, I will sorely miss watching Curb after 12 great seasons. Curb Your Enthusiasm, your curtain call deserves a standing ovation. Thank you Larry, for making us laugh and reflect for all these years from Seinfeld to Curb and anything in between. Bravo, Sir!!
Curb Your Enthusiasm: Ken/Kendra (2024)
Larry vs Susie
Do not listen to 1/10 review. This episode was hilarious from beginning to end. The interaction between Larry and Susie was classic mud slinging, no prisoners being taken. Susie Essman was on fire with Larry and I am sure avid fans of seeing them together in this interaction will agree. And having the Boss on was genius. Larry goes from one spectrum to the other in one episode. You can do all the good things in the world but doing one bad thing tarnishes you forever. Larry shows in part his true colors when confronted with the past. I have never given up on Curb and I am sorry to see it be the final season. This year seems like either you love this season or not. People, every season cannot be the same!!! There has to be obviously some differences, there lies the appreciation of it.
Curb Your Enthusiasm: Disgruntled (2024)
Absolute Gold
I just finished watching "Disgruntled" and this episode was packed with so many problems and issues we see in day to day that will surely reverberate in later episodes that was started with a list of complaints in a letter, to which it snowballs into other issues like confidentiality and such, then unexpectedly at the end, we get "Spartacus". The cast were all on point and seeing Willie Geist giving Larry "that look" (that we have not seen in quite a while). I laughed so hard throughout the whole episode, it was priceless. Kudos to the writers for this episode, what a gem!! Larry David was pure gold in this one.
Ted (2024)
Finally, the breath of fresh air we have been waiting for!!
I was excited to hear that Ted was going to be a series and with Seth doing Ted's voice. My only concern was how this would differ from the movies, but after seeing the premiere episode, my fears were allayed as this is the best comedy series that I have seen in a very long time aside from Letterkenny. Uncensored, funny, raunchy, sweet and just what we all need right now. This is not tame and it does not insult our intelligence. I love all the pop culture references (and there are many). From beginning to end, the writing is brilliant, funny, acerbic with style shall we say. I absolutely love this series. The first episode was the best launching pad for a show that should stick around for many years. Trust me, you will laugh your ass of from beginning to end with no pauses.
Chucky: Jennifer's Body (2023)
Finally understanding why Chucky is in the White House
This episode had it all, condensed in a neat package. From beginning until the end, we finally know the reason how Chucky got into the White House. I don't want to spoil it as it now makes sense from the first episode. The kill spree in this is great, although I thought the kill at the beginning was the best (involving a guest appearance). Jennifer Tilly was outstanding in this episode and shows how nuts she can be. There are a few funny moments especially with a doctor. It is hard not to want to reveal what goes on in this episode but I don't want to spoil it for anyone that has not watched it yet. Great episode!
Chucky: Murder at 1600 (2023)
The series is like a NASCAR race
Although there are some low scores for the 3rd season initial episode, like my title says, race cars do a lap before the start flag gets waved and the pace car gets out of the way. This episode is slow, but I can sense that this will pick up very soon. Give this a chance, as it does work in terms of setting the foundation and building this story up. Especially being in the White House, where everything is a formality in there, so the belief of the existence of a killer doll belongs in the National Enquirer and not fact in that world. We needed to establish the protagonists are since we all know the antagonist. So we will have to tune and see how all the pieces fit together. I quite enjoyed it.
Billions: Enemies List (2023)
The end scene will blow your doors off
This whole episode is brilliant from beginning to end. The script written for this has everything in it. The machinations from everyone involved will have you glued to the TV. The end scene will either make your jaw drop to the floor or have you cheering, you decide what you want to happen. I did both. It is sad to know that this series is ending. For what it is worth, the conclusion to this saga will be fantastic, but bittersweet for all the fans of this masterly crafted series. This episode is befitting of being a masterpiece where you wish you were Bobby Axelrod kicking your enemies right in the balls and rightfully enjoying it.
Letterkenny: May 2-4 (2023)
Rapid fire insults- "Love it"
This has to be one of the funniest episodes so far. The writers room has to be howling when coming up with all this. Mix Canadians, Americans, Australians and New Zealanders and watch the insult fireworks go full steam ahead. Word of warning, you have to put the subtitles in as the comebacks come fast and furious and most likely deserves a repeat viewing as you will definitely not catch everything. Even I learned a few new terms from the Aussies and Kiwis.
As a proud Canadian, I really appreciated this episode as it shows how a good May 2-4 weekend can be. How we all come together and that we all can take friendly insults and the license to throw it back. The current political situation in the U. S. could take a page out of this episode and not be snowflakes about it.
SAS Rogue Heroes (2022)
Hooked after 5 minutes
I was hooked on this wonderful, intense, humorous, engaging show after watching 5 minutes. From AC/DC to other musical entities, the characters, the dialog, the action, the situations historical/semi historical, the beginning and formation of the SAS was told brilliantly from Steven Knight. Each sentences were fruit from the sweetest tree they could find. Any negative reviewer need to have their heads examined and watch it again. I had a lot of fun watching this, and have a sense of patriotism attached to it. To this day the SAS are one of the premier tactical forces in the world and their reputation precedes them. This show just reinforces it that much and more. I agree with other regarding the production values and development of each character and have you rooting for each one of them, all top notch. I am only on the first episode and was able to write this review and anticipating with several glasses of whiskey to join the boys in this way above average series. I hope they have multiple seasons as I am sure old soldiers like myself revel in their stories. The positive reviews on this series are justified and the show's authenticity is amazing.
Wednesday (2022)
I want more!!!!
After watching the trailer, I was excited to see where Tim Burton and Danny Elfman were going with this and it is without a doubt, one of the best series that Netflix has ever put out. The dark and intertwining juxtapositions of everything that one has ever seen either on television or the movies in the realms of horror and history is packaged in a beautiful symphony of the macabre, including dark laughs. Jenna Ortega is the find of the 21st Century. Her portrayal of Wednesday Addams is dead on and magnetic to watch on the screen. Now we know how that sweet girl in the TV series became what she is today and Ortega delivers it hook, line and sinker. The storytelling keeps you captivated and never idiotic or redundant in it's delivery. I am glad that Luis Guzman's portrayal of Gomez is reflected from the comics, not even insulting the fans who loved John Astin and Raul Julia in their roles as Gomez.
Catherine Zeta Jones's portrayal as Morticia is great and relish every scene she is in.
I have only watched one episode and I will stand by my review until the end. I hope that this series continues onwards in further seasons. I hope Netfilx delivers the 2nd season during Halloween, it would be so appropriate due to the nature of the show. Thank you Tim Burton for great direction and Danny Elfman for a music score that ranks as high as his previous works such as Batman and countless other Tim Burton movies.
A Christmas Story Christmas (2022)
Reprising the Magic
I entered this one with one question: How will this rate against the original? After watching this, it was not disappointing, bringing back memories of iconic scenes and the great thing about it that it was the ultimate tribute to the late Darren McGavin. The story was heartfelt and tugs at the heartstrings. And seeing the old gang and the memories brought back, interlocked with scenes from the original really will bring a tear to your eyes. This story telling and the voice over by Billingsley harkened back to the original in the way it was narrated and presented. You could swear it was Jean Shepard speaking the part. I was only disappointed in not seeing Melinda Dillon reprising her role as the mother but Julie Haggerty did a fine job. The kids were delightful and not overbearing. Even the scenes at Higbees brought you back to the original and yes to my delight, and (minor spoiler) the Bumphus's dogs were back .
Overall, I really enjoyed this movie and highly recommend it to all the fans of the original and it is a near perfect follow up.
Peacemaker (2022)
Exceeded my Expectations
Please give James Gunn the DC Universe catalog. Initially I had an OK reception to the idea of continuing the Peacemaker character in a series because I thought it would be dialed down a bit, but...........no way!!!!! This is a fun, loud , violent show for the adult crowd and serious comic book lovers. Get that through your heads parents of little ones!! And the rock songs being played have increased my Playlist tenfold. John Cena and the rest of the cast are clearly having fun and so am I.
Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Mormon Advantage (2021)
One of the best season finales
Absolutely hilarious!!!! And the surprise cameo did just that make it over the top. I had tears from laughing so hard. Pure brilliance. Bravo Larry, you did it again!!
Chucky (2021)
Great start to this series- Bullies Beware
I love this series. If you are not a fan of Child's Play, then don't bother. This is what the fans have been waiting for. It has suspense, lots of humor, and has a build up leading up to a great season finale. The juxtaposition between Chucky's origin and Jake's, both being bullied growing up is being carefully set up and interesting. Don Mancini taking the reins is a blessing to all the Child's Play fans. And even referencing to the prior movies and hoping that some of the characters in the movies show up will be a treat for us all. May the series continue for a long time to come.
If you don't like the series, then go watch something else.
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
It is what it is!!!
I loved this movie. Yes, big Godzilla fan and both Godzilla and Kong look fantastic. We are all watching this movie for the eventual collision course these two will be in and that is why we are watching it. Adam Wingard did a masterful job in creating the action between the two. Yes, I agree, the human element and storyline could have been better but let's face it, when you watch a UFC Heavyweight Championship fight, you are not there for the commentary, you are there to see the two best in the world go at it. Opinions from all over are pouring in as to who wins, who loses but the real winners are the fans. I am thoroughly satisfied with the ending!!!
With no post credits, we can only assume what the next chapter will comprise of, but some of the revelations in the movie should be expanded on, I don't want to spoil it but it is still derivative of what happened in GKoffM.
This one is clearly the best of the Monsterverse so far so let's keep it going!
Batwoman: Prior Criminal History (2021)
Getting better
This episode gives that link in time on how the Ryan Wilder character was affected by Kate Kane (as Batwoman)when she saved her life when being mugged. And the fact that Ryan's storyline is slowly being interwoven with all the characters shows to me new and continuing along with the increased use of the new Batmobile we will see more and more gadgets come into play. They are not sacrificing on the way Alice is psychotic, manipuative and ruthless for her own goals (she was cheated in wanting to kill her own sister by Safiyah). I have high hopes for this season and so far I am pleased with the direction that it is going in so far, but let's hope that new and old villains (their offspring if any) do appear.
Batwoman (2019)
Give the 2nd season a chance
Hey People. Give the 2nd season a chance. I thought the first episode of the second season was a good introductory for the Ryan Wilder character. Let's see where they go with this. At least we get a new Batmobile and hopefully the writers took note of the first season's mistakes and can produce better results. I have faith for the series and let's see if they will have a better Rogues Gallery ahead.
Motherland: Fort Salem (2020)
Great concept
Finally an original concept!!! Even though I enjoy shows based on real events, this one is pure escapism to me. Great visual effects, unexpected premise, martial arts mixed with witchcraft and along with top notch acting, I was hooked from watching the first episode. I do not write reviews a lot but felt I had to for this show. For those elevated with male egos, set it aside, this show is about witches, who are female and not warlocks, who by definition are male witches. This is a fun show to watch and in these times we need great escapism and this is it. I hope there will be more seasons to come.
