A surprise
21 July 2023
After seeing a clip of the film on Youtube shorts I hunted this down and decided to give it a watch.

The film has it flaws but the action sequences keep you glued... WHat they pulled off on $40,000,000 is amazing and considering the cast put together the film did it's job of entertaining me for 2 hours...

Is it a Crimson Tide, U-571, or Hunt for Red October... Not by a long shot... It doesn't hold a candle to those films, but it still passed the time and I wasn't checking my phone.

I like Gerard Butler, and while most of his films are throwaways this one would definitely be a rewatch if I am channel surfing and I happen to come across it on one of the cable networks.

The performances by many of the cast are either overbearing (Gary Oldman) or underwhelming (Cardelini)... then there is emotionless (Butler) and just meandering (Common)

But it keeps the pace up very well and you even grow to like many of the Navy Seals characters... all in all it is a mindless popcorn flick that is getting a lot of hate and hey people have their opinions... not everyone will like everything and that is ok. My opinion is I enjoyed it. Would I buy the Blu-Ray for my collection, if I found it for $3.99 at Wal-Mart I probably would, but it would be just another film to add to the collection... I doubt it would ever get unsealed

Anyway, the opinion given is mine and other than the performances I noted above, the film also has some weak writing and it is a by the book popcorn actioner, however let's be honest this film wasn't produced to win Oscars.

Need to shut off brain, give it a watch...

It has potential
18 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
At first I was scared how this would come off as I loved the original show. I was a diehard fan... so it was easy for me to give this a chance and while there was some good laughs it needs some work. It was nice to see John back as Dan Fielding, although it misses the sexual tension without Markie Post, and of course Johns comedic misogyny is also gone which may or may not work. I get that it is not PC to be as before but while you can keep Dan's narcissism his lewd conduct is what made Dan Fielding, even if they give the backstory about how he was married, we kind of need to know more about it to explain his change in behavior. I am not going to just settle on old curmudgeon as a reason/

Still some of the goofy laughs from the original show do come up from time to time and I do miss that 80's/90's comedy video look, the newer cinematic look isn't working for me, but in the end it is the context of the package and it can get there... However, I don't remember Judge Harry having any kids... so you're going to need to explain this one... However I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure he never got married or had any rugrats.

Now I am sure the show runners will play on nostalgia for the die hards so I say if we don't get Bob and June Wheeler for at least one Cameo I am going to Riot to high heaven.

I recommend not forcing jokes... maybe the show runners can watch more of the original show to tap into the vibe... I will give it some more time but if it doesn't start to connect within the next 3-4 episodes... I am out. But so far it has potential and having Dan keeping his quick With (Flasher scene) was spot on and made me smile.

How do you go from 2018 to this???
14 October 2022
I am not going to tear this down like some others have because it truth the movie is neither a 1 or a 2, nor is it a 10 or a 9, a 5 is exactly where this film should land.

What started off with a great pick-up with Halloween 2018, slowly began to derail when it moved onto Kills, and here I thought we would have something to at least restore some of the awesomeness of 2018, and wash some of the stink of kills, but NOPE... we get a real mess of a story that some how steals the voodoo powers of Charles Lee Ray (CHucky) and spins him into the Halloween Universe... it is a tragedy.

I mean come on, this is the best they had to offer to us? It is not as bad as some have made it out to be, definitely not as bad as the Rob Zombie entries, but this definitely is a TEXTBOOK way to NOT end a trilogy of films.

I don't want to get into spoilers but if you read this before watching, go in with LOW expectations and you might come out not feelin as ripped off.

The Munsters (2022)

OMG this is absolute Trash
2 October 2022
If you want a crash course on how to screw up a modernization of a classic show, look no further than this reimagining of The Munster's, the jokes were more forced than prom sex.

The only good thing I can say Is Sherri Moon Zombie actually did a decent job of trying to mimic Lilly Munster.

Otherwise this was a waste of millions of Dollars, what was Universal Thinking?

I can make a better version with probably half the money they spent ont his garbage.

There is not only single good thing about the story I can put into words... it is like I wasted 109 minutes of my life.

Seriously Rob, stop making movies... your last good film was 17 years ago... The Devil's Rejects.

This is a weird show
1 July 2022
I am really on the fence with this show. Part of it is really engaging, however, the other part seems overtly fictional in how the elites come off.

The only two realistic enough characters are Logan (brilliantly played by Brian Cox) and Roman (Kieran Culkin).

I guess I am having a hard time buying into the show where one son, Kendall is such a submissive considering the household in which he was raised. The fact they have him as a character confuses me because he is portrayed as being under his father's wing, yet he cowers like a puppy even when his father isn't around. He strives for being the next Head of the company, yet he folds easier than a cheap suit when it comes to making the hard decisions which is strange because of having been raised by a man as ruthless as Logan.

It seems Shiv is more and more like her father yet doesn't show it on face value like her dad. She plays it close to the chest yet when the time comes she knows how to manipulate with the best of them all while giving you a big smile as she twists the sword into you.

I understand families have different dynamics, and for 1 kid to be off the reservation is one thing, and Connor fits that role perfectly but to have a majority of the kids not in the same atmosphere as their father is unbelievable. Yet, when their stink of entitlement shows up they all play it well and their constant reminders to other of their entitlement is actually very accurate (if you have ever worked in the C-Suite of a major org this behavior is spot on)

In the end I am compelled to keep watching because I am curious how this train wreck comes to an end but as it moves forward I lose more and more faith in how the writers are framing this family because as I noted to have 2 who are submissive, 1 out for his own thing, and one aligned with dad... even in this modern day is hard to believe at any level.

Still Waiting... (2009 Video)

I don't know why I am writing this, I shut it off 5 minutes in...
6 June 2022
Yep you read my headline correctly. The great thing about the original film was the chemistry of the cast, The bad things about this movie is the chemistry of the cast, not too mention it more or less rehashes a lot of the original film, all within the first minutes.

I can't believe this movie was greenlit. It tries to exactly copy the 2005 film from the opening, and then we get introduced to what is to be the new Monty. OH lord, this guy has not a single ounce of the charisma of Ryan Reynolds and he tries so hard to copy cat him at every turn.

Do yourself a favor, stream the original forget the sequel. It is truly is depressing on every level you could image. What perplexes me is someone gave these guys 5,000,000 to make this movie and I struggle to get 1,000,000 for my next film... makes you shake your head.

WOW, what a difference
6 June 2022
So it took me over a year to finally sit down and tackle this 4 hour masterpiece. Yes, I used the word masterpiece because not once was I distracted to look at the time. I did stop to cook some lunch for my little one, but once I picked it back up I was sucked right back into the film.

WOW, amazing how different the two versions are not only in tone but pacing. I used to say the Best Zack Snyder film was Man of Steel, now I have to knock that down a notch and put Justice League (The Snyder Cut) as the best film he has ever made., which now knocks his Dawn of the Dead down to #3.

So much more character development, tons of holes closed up quite nicely, I mean there are still some but name me a film without holes in it.

All in all the wait was worth it and now I can rid myself of the blu-ray disc for Josstice League.

Not just a prequel but more story of the Timeloop and other trinkets
29 October 2021
Army of Thieves, the prequel to Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, tells the back story of one of the best characters in Army of the Dead, Ludwig Deiter.

Deiter, which isn't even his real name, is a lonely bank teller with a mundane life who makes YouTube videos about the Safe Cracking world and gives the entire backstory of the safe's, including the Safe cracked in Army of the Dead.

This bit of information also ties to the famous German fairytale of Siegfried and Brunhilde.

The backstory explains a lot of what may have been confusing in Army of the Dead but it also expands on the time loop theory hinted by Vanderohe in Army of the Dead.

The cast is generally likable and each heist portrayed in the film has a great amount of suspense to keep you glued, especially with more of the back story being told of each safe being cracked.

The action moments, while not overdone are just the right amount of blood pumping stuff needed at the right time.

Directed by the Mathias, the man who played Deiter, Army of Thieves helps explain a lot of what was lost in Army of the Dead and brings Army of the Dead into a whole new perspective.

Ok, I hear ya, hey man, what about the zombies. Well Thieves takes place during the initial events of Army of the Dead, so the world is learning of the Zombie Apocalypse during Thieves and has become enamored by those vents which is taking the focus of other things in day to day life.

This causes Deiter to have his own concerns, and deals with his own stress based on the barrage of news reports about Vegas under Seige.

Thieves also explains who Deiter went from Europe to Vegas and how he is found by Scott and Maria in Army.

The writing here is much better than the writing contained in Army of the Dead, and yes it is a different genre altogether, but shows That Zack Snyder and company can write a decent script when they put effort into it.

After completing the 2 hours and 9 minute run time I walked away from Thieves feeling satisfied, and Mathias didn't disappoint returning as Deiter.

Not too mention having deeper insight into some things just skimmed during Army of the Dead helped elevate my opinion of Army of the Dead a bit more but still it was the shoulders of Dead to carry a lot of this weight not push it off onto a prequel, but still the prequel works and IMHO lived up to the hype surrounding the trailers.

All in all, if you like Dead, you'll like Thieves, if you were on the fence about Dead, Thieves will give you further insight and may have you revisit with all new eyes. If you hated Dead, you most likely won't bother with Thieves so no point in saying anything else.

Movie does not have the makings of a Varsity athlete.
1 October 2021
I was as eager as any Sopranos fan for this film to finally make it to screen but in the end I feel like I was ripped off and punched in the gut, much like the way David Chase shoved it up our backside by having the final episode of the Soprano's just cut to black.

While we do get to see younger versions of characters we know and love it also comes down to them being under utilized. However I will say that certain actors who portray characters like (Sil) were nearly spot on in their interpretation of the character they were playing.

The actor playing Paulie Walnuts had his mannerisms down but was under utilized, and finally Michael Gandolfini did very well with capturing his fathers charisma and attitude as a Young Tony Soprano.

Miscasting issues with Corey Stahl playing Uncle Junior was one of the most annoying things within the film.

Now getting a backstory to the Sopranos is something nice to have but why did they not tell it from the perspective of Johnny Boy and Uncle June? Using the Dickie Moltisanti storyline could have run parallel but this is a Sopranos story so focusing on the Sopranos is what should have been important.

Don't get me wrong Dickie's backstory is a good story but did not need to be the sole focus of the film. The Newark riots subplot also served no real purpose in the story.

I just feel like if this is the best they could offer they should have waited for a better story or not bothered.

So many opportunities wasted to tell a true TS backstory instead we get something we know nothing about from the original series other than passing remarks.

Well, at least Uncle Junior did get to say The Varsity Line, but I was hoping for the Feech LaMana Card game heist.

The Oscars (2021 TV Special)
Hates gonna Hate
7 May 2021
Every year of the Oscars there are a bunch of pinecones who run to IMDB to post their worthless opinion (like I am doing right now).

"The Oscars Suck" "Who cares?" "Worst Oscar Show Ever"

#1. Do not quit your day job. Being a critic of TV or film does not suit you and TBH the miniscule amount of people who will actually care... Pbbbbt. (thumbs down)

#2. If every year, and yes I looked at some user names for reviews, same folks, same diatribe, you watch and get the same result, why not just read the winners and losers on IMDB the next morning. It would be less disappointing and we don't have to suffer through your 2-3 paragraph short story about how the producers and crew screwed it up.

#3 Blah Blah Blah. No one really cares, I didn't even care TBH I just wanted to share my worthless opinion like everyone else has on this page. No reason to be left out, instead of piling on bashing the show I just wanted to make a general comment about the muggle lovers who have felt their opinion is the be all end all and their review is the best.

It's not, my 5 yr old writes better commentary.

A decent netflix sitcom with some genuine laughs
3 January 2021
Fluffy's humor definitely makes the show and his use of it definitely highlights how puts a bond between teachers and students. Having read a good portion of the review I see folks have been focusing the downplaying the show for the few times it makes jokes and Trumps expense, but since his presidency has a been a laughing stock since 2017 it works. Many shows have took a stab at presidents. Clinton, Bush, Nixon, Fod, Carter, Washington and many others however some of the reviewers seem to be taking stock in Trump and Trump only. So you can tell the definitive (I hope that is not too big a word for them) butt kissers who are missing the point of the show because their biased politics are taking precedence .

Gabe is trying to portray the teachers we all want for our kids. Someone who generally cares and tries to take the moral high ground whenever possible. His character as a teacher and how he interacts with his students makes him the person who truly believe in No Child Left Behind.

The show is somewhat family oriented and adult oriented. Most of the adult jokes will most likely go right over younger children's' heads, but the adults will definitely get a giggle or smile out of what adult humor exists.

I had a teacher like Gabe in High School so this made me appreciate them a lot more now than I did back in the late 80's (Graduated 1989).

While the show is very formulaic at times and reminds me of a modern Welcome Back Kotter it doesn't stray from its real premise which is a teacher who cares about his kids.

So if the political reviewers would get their heads of the presidents backside you may actually enjoy the show and understand the premise so much better. Take the politics out of your biased opinions (the wig joke in S1E1 was funny, sorry but I laughed) and watch the show for what it really is and you might enjoy it much more. Do you really want to trash a show because it made 3 jokes spread over an entire season about 45 when Last man Standing walked all over Biden every episode of an entire season due to Tim's politics or do you want to watch it and enjoy it for what is... a decent entertaining 30 minute show which does have a message? or do you want to be the Grinch and just hate on it for no reason because of a few political jokes.

and for those who think the laugh track needs to go, sorry but this type of comedy needs the laugh track to enhance the experience. Shows such as the office and modern family that didn't worked off situational comedy which is not everyone's teabag. So I would say since this is written comedy with minimal situational BG's in order to work I say it has to be left in.

Anyway, I enjoyed which is why I am giving it a 7 out of 10. My deductions really come from the lack of experience from some actors and some poor writing in the middle of Season 1.

Anyway, Thanks for reading my opinion and if you haven't given it a try at least watch the 1st 3 episodes and if by then you're not feeling it then fine move on and find something that suits your palette.

Not Great, not horrible... Lots of 80's style cheese
26 December 2020
I originally documented this review for Fandango and since I am not up to editing or re-drafting it for IMDB you can just take it for what it is and I adjusted my score based on IMDB

For a sequel I kept my expectations tame. While I didn't find the film to be as good as the first WW, I do find it to be kind of entertaining. As normal Gal Gadot is just stunningly beautiful either as Diana Prince or as WW herself. What I found to be the most amazing aspect of the film was the colors and palette used to create this 1980's style and feel. I think the DP as well as the colorist did a phenomenal job on this film.

One other thing I enjoyed was Steve (Chris Pine) re-discovering the world. The fish out of water element was a nice re-visit with a flipped script since this was done in WW1 with Diana.

Let's face facts it is comic book movie and the cheese level is pretty high on the scale here, but the underlying message about truth is not just fortune cookie wisdom. It actually has much more meaning in a world like our own today in 2020.

Call it what you want? Call it faith, call it Karma this movie was made for a reason not just to fill the taste buds of comic book fans but to make us all look a little deeper at ourselves and ask... Am I really so bad off? and what Truth can I put forth to make myself better.

With all the CGI and hyper over stylized action this movie meets the lust of 80's cheese full on, and while it will not be as memorable as the first WW. It is still a decent entry into the series.

But sit back and appreciate the velveeta fest on display and take the one message the film does deliver.

I chose 4 stars because I felt that the 3 star rating of "Meh... it passed the time" is not a true statement of this film, and I don't think it is awesome by any stretch of the definition of the word. However, it is entertaining and out a scale of 1 to 5 it delivers on the scale at a solid 4.

Recently binged this off Netflix and I love it
14 September 2020
Sadly missed this show during its prime run, but thankfully Netflix came to my rescue and I must admit I am enjoying every moment of this show.

I will admit season 4 does get a little sloppy but the overall quality of the shows content keeps it entertaining.

Sadly the show ended prematurely IMHO and I think had some of the story line been handled better they could have kept the series going.

I know some people might say oh it just repeats over and over but the whole big brother is watching us our civil liberties being trampled makes for interesting TV. I just wished the Vigilance story line didn't take a twist like it did I think they could have done so much more with that story.

In conclusion, this was a great show and I am glad I took the chance.

Entertaining Popcorn film
31 August 2020
I see a lot of the Negative reviews for this film seem to miss the point of a Popcorn film. Popcorn flicks are 9 times out of 10 cookie cutter scripts that serve one purpose, to let your forget your troubles for 2 hours and enjoy things being blown up or shootouts occurring that you would never see in normal day to day live.

Did people forget that the average day for a cop is pretty much boring? They are not chasing down international drug dealers everyday where they have one assassin who is the best trained and can take out an entire squad on their own?

Did people forget that most police officers, even narcos do not have the swagger and personality of Mike Lowery but are more like a Marcus Barnett (Married Kids, trying to have a peaceful existence)

If you walked into Bad Boys 4 Life expecting anymore than what was promised via the previous 2 films you set yourself up for failure.

Bad Boys 4 Life, even under new directors, still entertains and has some great laughs because it never set out to be an Oscar Contender, it was made for the exact same audience as a Fast & Furious movie and the expectations to be that were met from start to finish.

One thing BB4L did accomplish significantly is that it shows neither Will nor Martin have lost their comedic touch and make us remember why we enjoyed the 1st two films as much as we did.

Also, BB4L is a natural progression of getting older, living off the Lethal Weapon Mantra that we're not too old for this stuff, and it is true, while Will and Martin are in their 50's and one is definitely ready for greener pastures they still delivered.

So stop trying to act like every film needs to be Oscar Worthy, they don't. They need to accomplish one thing... Be Entertaining, and BB4L delivered!

Marcus and Mike are back.

This movie did what it was supposed to do. Entertain. It is a comic book movie, it will not always been perfect against the source material but if a movie manages to entertain, make you laugh and have fun while viewing it...which it did for me, then I say Mission Accomplished.

So to all my fellow comic book nerds who were tearing this movie apart, sit down and be quiet

Much better than the 2000 film
22 December 2019
Shaft 2019, what can I say? Well, I can say I am a sucker of Sam Jackson films, I also love Shaft films in general.

What was great about this Shaft is it has much better pacing and direction than the previous entry directed by John Singleton.

Definitely had a bit more comedy and laugh out loud moments.

Sad this film bombed at the box office as it was a much better shaft story from start to finish than the 2000 film, even if Sam Jackson is getting a bit old to be doing these types of action films. However, I am happy to report it is worth a watch.

The Irishman (2019)
9/10
Probably the last great classic gangster picture we will ever see.
28 November 2019
Ok, so the new Scorsese film... where to begin.

I hope that anyone truly interested in cinema watches this picture. The Irishman is not like anything we have watched or witnessed in 24 years.

Scorsese, always a fantastic director has always had a tight hand on the gangster picture genre. While he has not visited this material in its true form since 1995's Casino, you can still catch glimpses of his great handling of gangster material in The Departed.

Scorsese has managed to assemble a gangster-esqe Avengers of sorts. Bringing out all the heavy hitters for one last show of a genre of cinema which has been long lost in the carnival of superhero films that have cluttered cinemas for the last 20+ years.

The Irishman, clocking in at 3.5 hours moves with a sustained pacing that never wastes a single minute of its running time. DeNiro, serving as the narrator gives the audience a ghostly performance as a working man who rose up the ranks of the Philadelphia crime families and the Teamsters union by not just stepping outside the law to cut side deals to feed his family but to later rise up the ranks to become one of the most powerful non-mafia/italian born characters in this tale.

The Irishman, clocking at 3.5 hours moves with a sustained pacing that never wastes a single minute of its running time. DeNiro, serving as the narrator gives the audience a ghostly performance as a working man who rose up the ranks of the Philadelphia crime families and the Teamsters union by not justt stepping outside the law to cut side deals to feed his family but to later rise up the ranks to become one of the most powerful non-mafia/Italian born characters in this tale.

DeNiro effectively portrays an emotionally closed-off family man who has grown so immune to the brutality he not only witnessed but carried out that you really start to think that his self inflicted mental state was something he carried through his entire life. Now, some can easily say he is Irish and like most of the Irish (Myself being half) we kind of never show emotion or air our issues because it can convey weakness in the armor. No matter how you look at it, Deniro effectively pulled this off to such a great length he truly has to be commended for his ghostly approach to the character.

Pesci, normally know for being the off the hook, crazy as hell gangster is actually playing 100% opposite of his previous work with Scorsese, and let me tell you, his crack at Philly Crime Boss Russell Bufalino is one of the best performances he has given since Goodfellas.

Even Harvey Keitel and Bobby Cannavale who are used sporadically embrace their respective characters and bring the full game to the court and it shows.

What you do not get from The Irishman that you do from other Scorsese gangster pictures is a perspective from the wives (Lorraine Bracco and Sharon Stone roles from the previous films). The wives are merely a backdrop to fill int he family picture and have no real purpose or resonance in the film. However, this is being told from the perspective of Frank (DeNiro).

A note must be made that crim historians have been vocal in stating that Frank Sheeran may have embellished, at great lengths, his total involvements in everything depicted, but I am not here to do a comparison of truth versus fiction. This story by Zaillian is based on the book I Paint Houses. Which is supposed to a biography of Frank. So take the complete story depicted in The Irishman with a grain of salt when compared to historical facts.

In closing, I urge my friends and fellow readers to watch this film and embrace everything it gives to you from the cinematic POV that is portrayed. Films of this nature are not going to be found as we move forward in cinema and this may be the last great motion picture from the gangster genre ever created.

My overall score, a 10 out of 10, which is rare for me to give in this day and age.

Enjoy.

Not exactly what I was expecting from tarantino
24 November 2019
It is hard for me to review this title as I am not a professional movie critic. However as a filmmaker myself I will try to touch on what I can from a filmmakers POV. Obviously I am nowhere in the same class, atmosphere or zone as Tarantino, who I find to be one of the top film artists of the last 25 years.

Once Upon a Time... is not a typical Tarantino film. Meaning it is not as blunt, graphic or violet as his previous work. Now this doesn't make it a bad experience but it definitely left me feeling a bit empty at first. Luckily I had a guild screener as was able to give it a second viewing which helped me absorb more of what Quentin was trying to put in front of me than my 1st viewing.

I will say the trailers originally set my expectations very high, especially after some of the great films he brought us recently such as Hateful 8 (My personal fave of his body of work) and Django Unchained. So naturally I was expecting something in the vein of these two films and man it couldn't be further than those pictures.

OUATIH is set during what some will say was the end of the golden age of Hollywood. Now having been born in 1971 I was not privy enough to this culture but have done my historical research and this film is definitely QT's love letter to that time in history.

Now, I am not going to get into the whole break down of the story. I feel other imdb reviewers have touched on that enough so there is no point in me regurgitating what has already been covered.

OUATIH, while a love letter, is a fictional story with a mix of real life characters and fictional characters, and takes place during a historic time in history. The mix of real life characters and the events of some of those real life characters are thrown into a mixer and swirled around into a cocktail that puts a fresh spin on the age old true story.

What QUATIH successfully accomplishes is bringing to the audience relatable and likeable fictional characters who lead the main part of the story. Leo and Brad have some of the most amazing on screen chemistry and turn really fantastic performances. Although I was getting a bit impatient with The slow burn of Leo's story as Rick Dalton and felt it was dragging on, whereas Brad's character, Rick's stunt double Cliff Booth, felt like you could tell a whole other story and you would watch it because Pitt makes his character so relatable and genuine.

Here is where my first problems lied within the film, as I noted my expectations where sky high for two reasons. 1. great trailers, and number 2. a new Tarantino film. I set my self up and never thought Tarantino would give us the film he did and it left me feeling bored the first time around... well at least until the last 15 minutes where the film goes full Tarantino. It was this ending that made me sit back and say "you know, I might be missing something here, let me watch it again."

So on the second viewing I absorbed more and could appreciate the overall package but still felt it didn't live up to its full potential. However, I will still say Brad Pitt did the most outstanding job with his character and Leo was able to play the actor within an actor within another character very well and he did give a great performance further proving he is one of the top 10 greatest talents of his generation.

In the end I felt that while this is not exactly my cup of tea in QT films, it holds a place in his heart and I could see that through the presentation. Sadly, for me I wasn't able to fully connect on the level I was hoping too but that doesn't mean others will not.

I will say my biggest disappointment was the under utilization of Margot Robbie, who plays a great doppleganger for Sharon Tate, just a shame though as the Tate Storyline is wasted and could easily have been left on the cutting room floor and this is from the perspective of another filmmaker. I do understand I am not QT and this is not my film, but just my opinion on the film.

My advice is if you at first don't connect with OUATIH, give it another watch. Just for the nostalgia of the hollywood history it is worth a second viewing alone.

In the end I couldn't give it an 8, I would say it is more a solid 7.4 and with the IMDB scale I had to round it down to a 7. But, like I said, this is my perspective.

on the technical and soundtrack side this film is an 10 out of 10, but the overall package just doesn't deliver that full 8 or even the 10 I was expecting.

P.S. Bruce lee's kid needed to shut up. The scenes with Mike Moh resembled every Bruce interview of documentary with him on film I have seen so while the representation wasn't 100% it was damn close.

Welcome Back Eddie
26 October 2019
The Eddie Murphy I grew up discovering is back and funnier than ever. This Ed Wood-esqe biopic about Rudy Ray Moore gives Eddie a vehicle in which to shine with not just his comedic timing but his over all deliverance of a great performance. The acting is the oscar nominated Eddie of Dreamgirls.

Now I am not sure if the Academy is recognizing netflix films but they should take a look at this performance as Eddie shines

Chernobyl (2019)

I would give it a 10 but
8 July 2019
IMDB tends not count a lot of 10's and 1's but this was by far the best TV movie/mini-series I have watched since HBO's the Wire which was 15+ years ago.

Great direction by Johan Renck. He took his time with the camera when it was required. He guided the cast to give great performances that were compelling, riveting and just all out awesome.

The series as a whole is now my favorite Mini-series produced and I have probably watched it 5 times, if not more. It never gets boring.

I grew up in the USA but I remember this event vividly, how our entire freshman class was glued to TV coverage when it was found out what the Soviets were hiding from the world and the sheer horror of what was occuring is definitely displayed in the story and performances.

I actually lived in Syracuse NY when this event occurred but 7 years prior I lived in PA during the 3 mile island nuclear accident and while I lived about 120 miles from that event at the time to have another disaster hit within such a short span of time really started to raise my awareness on Nuclear power and the dangers involved when secrets are kept not just from personnel but from the public..

Still I cannot recommend this program enough YOU HAVE TO SEE IT!

You will endure some very unsettling moments in each episode, some of which I had to straight pause the playback and take a deep breath and mind you I am 48 years old so it definitely struck a major chord with me.

Now I am eagerly waiting the Blu-Ray release.

Another solid film from Quentin Tarantino
28 November 2018
Out of his entire career, there is only one QT film I cannot bare to watch. Which is Sad because it had one of my favorite actors, Kurt Russell and we all know that film is Death Proof.

Fast forward 8 years and QT brings back Kurt for a frozen tale of who done it and what happens when you place 8 folks with differing personalities into the small confines of a haberdashery in the middle of a blizzard.

Well scripted dialogue, great performances from Goggins, Russell and Jackson make this frozen tale worth repeated viewings.

While I know it is not a direct sequel I view it as a loose sequel to Django of tales about the wild west and south.

My only complaint, keeping this fil from getting a perfect 10 was the waste of the 70mm film system. It would have been better for Django than it was for The Hateful Eight

Glee: Saturday Night Glee-ver (2012)
Season 3, Episode 16
6/10
An Homage this is not, but I still enjoyed the episode
7 June 2017
I have been a huge fan of Saturday Night Fever for 40 years. The 1977 mega-disco-hit starring John Travolta, not only solidified him as an acting force to be reckoned with, but brought the day to day drama of life in 1970's Brooklyn as a teen with no direction in life.

So when Glee opted to pay homage I had to jump up and give this episode a watch. Now, they call this an homage however it doesn't even skim the surface of what Saturday Night Fever was about. Kids in midwest Ohio aren't going to understand nor relate to Tony Manero. However as an acapella glee club wanting to show respect to a film that not only defined a decade, but established music from a soundtrack that is still as listenable today as it was in 1977.

While I would have loved to have been a writer on this episode, simply because as a filmmaker and a fan I would have dialed the story around all the struggles the kids do face, not having them try to act like their life is as hard as Maneros'

What I loved about this episode was the cinematography and camera direction simply because if you know the original film as well as I do you can catch all the direct shot lifts from the film used int he episode, which gave it the proper technical nod.

The dancing was what i would expect of a Glee episode set to disco, however I personally would have saved the opening number dance for the end of the show. You Should be Dancing would have been a great closing number where as Stayin' Alive is and always will be an opening number. However, it was nice to see many Manero moves lifted and put into that opening number... they just needed the floor and they would have have almost had a shot for shot opening to the famous dance scene.

My biggest qualm was the lift of a line of dialogue from the 1983 sub-par sequel, Staying Alive. Just as the staying alive number is about to begin the line lifted is from Manero's final line after his successful Broadway performance... You Know what I wanna do, you know what i wanna do... Strut. However, due to the poor lift of a line from a throw away subpar sequel it made me angry.

In the end, this baby doesn't move at midnight and sure as heck doesn't make it to the dawn, but it does keep ya dancing.

Straight Outta Awesome
18 August 2015
The N.W.A. biopic hits all the right beats and notes in bringing to the silver screen the rise of The World's Most Dangerous Group.

As someone who grew up as a teen listening to the original NWA and The Posse album, Eazy E's Eazy Duz It and all the follow up albums, as well as following the drama, and the careers of the Ruthless artists, and watching the careers of Ice Cube and Dr. Dre explode, it was nice to sit down and watch it all get summarized in a great movie.

I took my son with me to the film, and he was blown away to know I actually lived through this time and he has started to love N.W.A.

The movies has it's up moments and down moments. I think seeing Eazy realize he was dying was tough on not just me, but the audience. Jason Mitchell gave an excellent performance as Eazy E.

I also have to recognize Oshea Jackson Jr, for portraying his father. The mimicking of his fathers mannerisms was spot on.

Straight Outta Compton is a gritty look at the Rise of NWA, but what an entertaining look it is. If you know the group whether by growing up with them or just discovering them, this film will help you get a more up close and personal look.

Highly Recommended.

(I only gave it a 9 as IMDb doesn't always count 10 reviews because of site trolls.)

Entourage (2015)
8/10
Great Closure? But still a good time if you're a fan
3 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Entourage the movie is best enjoyed as an existing fan of the show, or at least someone with some knowledge of the show.

The movie picks right up where the last season left off, bringing back all the favorite characters for what is essentially an additional season.

Some people say wasted chance, or why bother, but they don't understand that the movie was always going to be the send off the show deserved but never received.

The story picks up about 2-3 weeks after we left the guys at the airport and Ari in Italy.

Vince's marriage has turned to crap after a whopping 9 days, E and Sloan are at each others throats, Johnny is Johnny and Turtle now a self made millionaire who doesn't mind still pulling driver duty.

What the movie does bring back is memories of the show and everything we loved about it. The good seasons. But what it stuck to was its original premise, 4 guys who grew up together and have stuck through it thick and thin.

The Bro's before hoe's mentality is strong in this film, and for many that is the truest definition of friendship you'll ever see. These guys are more than friends they're family and it shows top to bottom.

The movie could have done a better job of bringing in new fans, but NOPE it stuck to it's guns of being a send off piece and that is fine by me.

So if you're a fan you should love it, or at the very least like it very much. If not a fan I can see boredom setting in and you wanting to leave the theater because you have no character development on who these guys really are except for a brief excerpt at the beginning of the film in a blink and you will miss it cameo by Pierce Morgan.

Still the film brings closure to the series, but still leaves it open enough for a sequel should it prove its staying power at the box office.

However, with being directed at hardcore fans it may struggle, but then again it may not as Sex and the City did quite well, but guys aren't nearly as sentimental as gals are about their shows.

So we'll see

Because the film lacks the ability to draw in the casual no Entourage experience viewer I had to remove two stars.

On the tech side... presented in 2.35:1 with some fantastic cinematography.

Definitely one of my top 15 favorite films.
27 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I caught American Sniper during a 2 week trip to San Diego, CA, and during a weekend off from work I ventured to an early matinée to catch the film and as I sat through this picture I felt the intensity when Chris had to kill the 1st child, and the emotions he was was going through when being state side made me feel more compassion for the service men and women who have been fighting four the freedom of Americans.

I am not a member of the armed services but have a huge amount of respect that they risk their lives to allow me to be the a-hole I am on a day to day basis. While this movie isn't without flaws, It did it's job and that is the end goal with every drama production.

As far as flaws, I felt some of the editing was frantic, maybe too frantic for a dramatic production, and I am not talking about scenes of conflict, I am discussing scenes between Taya and Chris.

However, the performances were pretty solid, Bradley did a fantastic job, I knew when I first caught him on the Wedding Crashers he would go places. Sienna Miller also gave a good performance as Taya and her conflict of love for Chris and understand his on-coming PTSD and love for his brothers in arms.

All in all I gave the film an 8 out of 10. While it put it in my top 15 films, I do not give films 10 ratings any longer on IMDb, since a lot of 10 votes are never counted by the site. For me an excellent film is a 9 and while I did find some flaws that irked me which lowered it one point, i still highly recommend this film.
