The Watcher (2022)
A fascinating character study with inconsistent writing
The acting was very good. Particularly, mentionable:
Bobby Cannavale, playing a very strong lead; Jennifer Coolidge, a fiercely determined woman, slightly askew;
Noma Dumezweni, a highly controlled multi-dimensional dark woman; Margo Martindale, a convincingly scary lowly-bred, nosy woman
who could turn friendly. Also deserving congratulatory mention: Henry Hunter Hall, Seth Gabel, Christopher McDonald. The story was overly long, however, and the poor writing at the end of the series brought
it down. The house, as a focal point, failed to rally enough interest to sustain what could have been a compelling story. The house seemed to be a little too ordinary to capture the imagination. It was big, but not well explored. There were too many leads and side-issues, which turned out to be semi-dead ends. It seems like the writers added unnecessary sub-plots to keep the series going. There was a lack of cohesiveness. Overall the acting and interesting characters made the series interesting in spite of the
inconsistent writing.
The Night Clerk (2020)
A Tense Portrayal of a Young Man on the Spectrum
Better than expected. Tye Sheridan's raw performance as a young fellow on the autistic spectrum is something to see. You are hypnotized by his character, whose every line and facial expression is in line with the character he portrays. John Leguizamo, as the good detective underplays his roll in a way that adds to the drama. Helen Hunt forcefully plays the protective mother, and Joey Miyashima adds a quiet presence as a Good Samaritan with his small roll. The film is crisply photographed and uncomplicated, as I think the film makers intended it to be.
The Equalizer (2021)
The sound was very poor
I couldn't follow the dialogue so well because the sound was not clear. I tried to follow the dialogue with the subtitles, but they were hard to see and too fast to read. The subtitles were located in the left bottom corner of the screen-white letters on black.
They should have spanned the whole screen with a better color format.
I hope these items can be worked out because the
story is ok; Queen Latifa is worth watching.
