The movie Get Rich or Die Trying', is surprisingly a great movie. At first I had no intentions in seeing the movie until it was brought up in a conversation.
Get Rich or Die Trying' starring Curtis Jackson, Terrence Howard, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Majestic: The good.
Within the first scene you're viewing the side mirror of a vehicle while "I'll whip your head boy" is playing. You know something is going to down and yet you must wait in suspense. Great direction by Jim Sheridan.
The audience learns to feel strong emotions for the younger Marcus. As the story develops you begin to make a connection with the character. Great story writing.
I already felt bad for Marcus when his girlfriend had to move away. It hurts losing a "best friend" at a young age. Yet, we move on; similar to Marcus within the story.
Terrence Howard's acting experience is great for his role as Bama. Bama required someone to be EXTREMELY paranoid. In the scene where Marcus just got out of Jail and Bama is paranoid because of his crew mate couldn't sit still is hilarious.
The soundtrack greatly reflected Marcus's career of being a rapper.
I could hear the audience sing "Window Shopper" the second time it was played in the movie. Truly an unsuspected cinema experience.
The Bad.
There is a scene where Bama's sound clip has a ring to it. Although this is no longer than 30 seconds. Simple sound editing mistakes such as this can lower the quality of the movie. (Note: this may be due to wear on the film)
Your girlfriend giving up her career to be a housewife to a man with an unstable career and unstable security. I wish my ex girlfriend was this way. (Note: this is countered when his wife almost leaves him after his injury)
The Conclusion.
There are a lot of cinematic elements within the film that almost enticed me to watch the film (in the theater) a second time. The movie also emphasis on how difficult it can be to get out of a gang and/or drug-dealing: Majestic would not stop pursuing Marcus. Also, I have GAINED more respect for 50 cent after watching this movie.
I have seen 8-mile numerous times and I have yet to see how 8-mile and Get Rich or Die Trying' are the same movie or the same formula: (Referring to characters) Eminem had to struggle to become big and refused the opportunity. No one is murdered for trying to stop B-rabbit.
Curtis had to struggle with getting a record deal although most of his music was extremely popular. He then creates his own label and takes Majestic's label head on. Finally, Bama kills majestic in the end.
