Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Never has a film made me so traumatized and heartbroken
I've been a huge Indiana Jones fan since I was 10 and I honestly went into this film being very optimistic. I was really excited and expecting it to be good. About 45 minutes in I lost all hope. The fact that they made my hero Indiana Jones into a broken down, weak old man who had completely given up on life was like watching my childhood getting tortured. I know Mr Ford is getting on in age now but Indiana Jones is meant to be a character whose heroism often defies both logic and our expectations of what a human being can achieve. That was such a brilliant aspect of the previous films. Feeling like Indy could overcome almost anything no matter what.
The absolute worst thing for me was that they pretty much replaced Indy with Phoebe Waller Bridge playing the most obnoxious and unlikeable character you could ever imagine. Nothing about her or her character seemed to fit in an Indiana Jones film (or the 1960s for that matter) but she got all the attention and screen-time and Indy was a side-kick at best.
Every time I felt like Indy was going to get back to his best, it got cut short and Helena was made to be the hero ruining the whole idea of Indiana Jones being the hero that he was.
The plot was definitely out there but I know I would have enjoyed it if it was an Indiana Jones film which I don't consider this to be. I really tried to like this film but there was way too much that I just couldn't accept. It honestly broke my heart how bad this film was and has completely put me off the whole series which I used to love dearly.
