Continuum (I) (2012–2015)
10/10
Very interesting, it does grow on you
19 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I finished watching Season 1 "End Times" last night on the Syfy Channel, and I have to say it really blew my mind. Here I've been focusing on the two sides, and suddenly I realized it was probably a show about a science experiment about time travel and whether or not individuals have the power to change the past...really really looking forward to season 2. (I only "spoilered" this because some people might not have seen the last episode yet.) As for the show, overall, I like the police woman, the detective she works with, and the computer guy. Flashbacks give hints of a troubling future...the "corporate" world, as well as hints that there aren't any animals for people to look at. I hope to see more when the show starts up again.

Supah Ninjas (2011–2023)
4/10
Mildly entertaining
19 May 2012
I like to watch this show to see George Takei because of his connection to Star Trek. As "Hologramps" he is the center of the good guys and how they operate. There is a clunky robot that is mildly entertaining but not being utilized enough. The other redeeming feature of this show is that you might learn some martial arts moves you could use in real life, but you have to watch closely. Other than that, the plots are lame, the dialogue stilted, and bad guys just plain stupid.

The writers should take time off to watch the old "Batman" serials for tips on writing funny tongue-in-cheek dialogue, which would lift this show from "mild" to "very" entertaining.

Miami Magma (2011 TV Movie)
6/10
Nice movie, bad science
4 February 2012
This was a very fun movie to watch, full of action. Dumb science, but not bad. Certainly it's not awful science, more like "implausible." Even if one supposed there might be a volcano in Miami, the special effects were not in accordance with what one might expect a true volcano to do. Also, I found the final scene of the movie startling. If it's what I think it was, then it was the final, most implausible special effect of all. On the other hand, if it were plausible, then it wouldn't be much of a movie, more like a docudrama perhaps.

The characters were what made the movie interesting, though even there, it seemed that people were acting in contradiction. One minute, a character is acting moral and wants to do the right thing, the next, they are willing to throw everything they said out the window for a cut of the proceeds. Another character has a history of being dishonest, then suddenly they have a conscience. A young woman is flaunting herself, then suddenly she becomes mature. I guess it was the inconsistencies that amused me more than anything.

Just one last comment: This movie played under the name "Swamp Volcano" on the SyFy Channel but it is the same movie.

Van Damme Probably Let Michael Ironside Take This One
8 September 2011
I watched part of this movie a long time ago. It's such a forgettable movie that I have to go and read the reviews every time because I keep forgetting which stupid movie this is, and whether or not I've ever seen it. So let that be a lesson to you: Don't waste your time watching because you won't remember later what it's about, it's that bad.

As for Van Damme being a better actor to play the role played by Michael Ironside, I have to agree with drnrg31. A few possibilities: (a) Van Damme read the script and rejected it because it was too lame even for him. (b) Van Damme gave the role to Ironside because the latter needed the money more. (c) Van Damme was busy and so the movie people twisted the arm of Michael Ironside to do it as a favor. (d) Ironside left his brain at home the day people asked him to do the role.

Annihilation Earth (2009 TV Movie)

The movie wasn't that bad, but you all missed the point
15 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The script may have stunk a bit, but the point of the movie is that thinking of Arabs as terrorists first and human beings second is a big mistake that can lead us into a major disaster for humanity.

I actually enjoyed much of the movie even though I was tempted to fast forward the tape to see how it ended. Marina Sirtis' character, Paxton, started acting a little odd, I wondered if her character was somehow supposed to be in a separate conspiracy to "trap" the supposed terrorists. In the end, I didn't see any evidence other than a forced attempt to belabor the point of the movie.

Incidentally, as others have mentioned, the Large Hadron Collider isn't going to create a black hole...that's just scaremongering talk that made for an interesting movie but not very good science.
