Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (2023)
Hum Saath Saath Hain - Part 2
The story is basically, Ranbir Kapoor and his friend run an agency responsible for break-ups. Ranbir and Shraddha meet overseas and fall in love. Shraddha goes to meet Ranbir's family and then, drama and fun continues.
I did not go into theater with any expectations, but was presently surprised. Ranbir and Shraddha have great chemistry onscreen, and they perform well, especially Ranbir, who is one of the main reasons the movie works even when the script drags. All members of Ranbir's family are charming, especially the character played by Dimple Kapadia.
Basically, this is a comedy movie with a few bits of melodrama at the end.
I would recommend going with your whole family and have a blast. It's a good old fashioned Bollywood film with its heart in the right place.
Portrait de la jeune fille en feu (2019)
A Portrait gone wrong
Though well shot, an extremely boring, badly acted movie with a horrible script. Only the last scene works when the music plays boisterously.
Colossal (2016)
"Colossal," thinking man's "Pacific Rim?" Not Really.
Colossal is another disappointing feminist film starring Anne Hathaway. The other one being "The Intern," which was disappointing, too. Make a feminist film, but in the end you should like the female character, not hate her. I mean, then what's the point?
Different idea does not equal to great movie. This one falls under that category, although it is very good and charming for the most part.
Anne Hathaway, plays Anne Hathaway, good and charming in parts, annoying in others. Jason Sudeikis is good, but overacts a lot after the interval, although I liked his character more than Anne Hathaway's. The supporting cast is nothing special.
Watch if you like dark comedies or if you are a fan of "Pacific Rim." I just had a bad taste in my mouth after watching it. Will go will 3 ½ out of five, with reservations.
La La Land (2016)
"La La Land " Good movie, but could have been great.
Just saw La La Land yesterday in IMAX and am glad I did. This movie is a visual experience that must be experienced in the biggest screen possible.
But while I think it's a good movie, I'm sorry to say it's not as great as many of the critics have said it is.
Don't get me wrong I love Musicals. But it not in the same league as Musicals like Singin' in the Rain (my favorite), Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, and Cabaret. I even like modern Musicals like Moulin Rouge. Though I know comparing one movie to another is wrong, as each movie is different and unique, but you tend to compare movies of the same genre (Raging Bull vs Rocky).
Positives:
1. The Direction is good.
2. Performances by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are really good.
3. Music is good.
4. Cinematography is beautiful. Feels like a Van Gogh painting come to life.
Negatives:
1. Script is uneven. First half is not engaging, things improve post intermission, but
2. I wouldn't call this a negative but takes too much inspiration from movies like "American in Paris" and a lot form French Musicals like "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" and "The Young Girls of Rochefort." Wish it was a bit original though.
Final thoughts:
Watch it at least once, just don't have high expectations and you won't be disappointed.
My rating is four out of five stars.
Menschen am Sonntag (1930)
My 6th Favourite Silent Movie.
This is probably my 6th favourite Silent Film of all time.
The List:
1. The General (1926) 2. City Lights (1931) 3. The Birth of a Nation (1915) 4. Metropolis (1927) 5. Battleship Potempkin (1925) and 6. People On Sunday
This probably one of the best movies to watch on a rainy day. Though an experimental film it is surprisingly entertaining with minimal script. Good direction, acting. Though the real hero of the movie is cinematography with captures Berlin and its people and excellent background score which hold your interest when the story seems to drag a bit. This lesser know gem is must for all film fans and must for fans of Billy Wilder(Script Writer).
