Moonfall (2022)
The dialogue though
When this started, I was all, ooo fun.
About 15 minutes later I was confused and, well, very confused. Not only because the story is nonsensical, but because the dialogue is genuinely some of the worst I have ever heard. The scene between Halle Berry and Donald Sutherland is gobsmackingly bad. It's as if half the dialogue was removed and we got half the scene. I was blinking in shock. The movie looks visually pretty good, and it has a good cast. Yet it really is that bad. It really, really is. I only gave it three stars because I feel bad for all crew and vfx people who spent months making this whatever the hell it is. I'm still shaking my head over the script. My dog writes better, and she can't write.
This Little Love of Mine (2021)
Why make this Australian movie with US accents?
Look. I get it. This Aussie romance is going for the US market. Probably the Hallmarkesque audience. But the poor American accents are getting well and truly in the way of any decent acting. It's just plain weird.
If they'd made this as an Aussie movie with Aussie actors using their natural accents, it might have been relatively charming. But as a huge fan of the Hallmark style formulae romance, for me it this misses the mark. Manly because of the dodgy accents. It just feels odd.
Walker (2021)
Great casting. Solid show.
I'm not a big cop/crime show fan. And I'll be straight up, I watched Walker for Jared Padalecki. But I'll watch the next episode because I enjoyed the first. Not just for the tall glass of water in the lead!
Walker has fantastic casting. All the characters introduced in the pilot had purpose. The pilot did some heavy lifting in that department, with multiple intros, but it handled it well, and I look forward to knowing them all better as the series progresses.
The family vibe is what I enjoyed most. Troubled teens aside, it had a strong sense of an extended family unit supporting each other. I liked that. The family aspect of the pilot was my favourite element.
Walker himself, is a man carrying guilt beside sadness as he try's to traverse his changed and unfamiliar word, and Jared Padalecki has broad enough shoulders to carry this emotional load. He's always been wonderful to watch when portraying the deepest of emotions, and here in Walker, he continues this strong work.
I was surprised how much I liked this show, and equally surprised that the show is why I'll be tuning in again - not just the lead.
Check it out. It's an easy hour to enjoy.
Supernatural: Carry On (2020)
A truly beautiful finale
After watching this show for fifteen years, I couldn't be happier with how the finale was crafted.
Though it was not what I thought would make me happy, it did. The peace and contentment that the Winchester brothers were gifted after such a life long fight was deserved and it made my heart soar.
The performances were incredible, and both Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki should be incredibly proud of their work. It was gut wrenching, and heart breaking, all in the best possible way
I have been on this journey since day one. Fifteen years riding beside the Winchesters. This show has always been produced with love and respect, and I am so thankful for the work that every single cast and crew member has poured into this show over the years..
Carry On, was intimate, and moving, and devastatingly beautiful - as the show has always been.
It is my favourite finale.
I loved it.
Sitter Cam (2014)
Oh dear
I didn't expect great things, but beyond the predictable and absurd story line, the acting is, for the most part, pretty ordinary to out right horrid, and the direction and editing pedestrian at best. And please don't even start me on -spoiler- the scene with the old baby sitter, who is watching TV when she suspects someone is in the house. You can hear dialogue from the TV but when we cut to the TV it's the iconic shadow on the wall shot of Nosferatu walking up stairs. A silent movie. Silent. And really, could it be any more clichéd? Cut to scary, shadowy tree branches, creepy statue.... Blergh. Basically.
