Barry: it takes a psycho (2023)
SPEECHLESS AT HOW INSANELY GOOD A SHOW THIS IS
I feel like we're living in the matrix because of this show. Dark and grim lows coupled with surprise highs, this episode had it all. For the whole episode, Bill Hader is mostly absent but is made up for in the directing for these final episodes. It's crazy to think how different this show was when it first started and where the characters have progressed in such drastic fashion. Hank and Cristobal share one of the most heartbreaking scenes you will ever witness in a show that's labeled as a Comedy. Now I fully understand what it meant when they were saying that every character has Barry's "disease" this final season. Every character is finally coming to terms with who they truly are this season and it is a roller coaster to witness. I cannot believe what Hank has done this time. Gene has a shocking development that will have you reeling and we get a taste of what will come with Fuches in prison. Plus a TIME JUMP?!? This show is a Lynchian trip in the greatest sense and I can't wait to see where everyone's story ends.
The Last of Us: When We Are in Need (2023)
One of the Best TV episodes I've ever seen
I knew that when we finally got to David's group in the show that all hell would break loose. The horror is elevated by David's sinister presence with a terrifying performance by Scott Shepherd. The backstory of the group was great addition to the lore of the game and how they emphasized the dire situation they were in. The way this show manages to dive deeper into the characters' psyches with true to life portrayals is a fresh of breath air not only in Video Game adaptions but in TV shows in general.
The way Ellie tackles with the gravity of her situation really got me in my feelings. The sheer ferocity of Bella Ramsey's performance was absolutely the highlight of this week's episode. This episode will win Emmys along with the first episode. The ending with Joel and Ellie moved me to tears with their. The show continues to prove that this is the best Video Game adaption ever produced.
The Righteous Gemstones: I Will Tell of All Your Deeds (2022)
Beware of false prophets
My oh my what an amazing ending to another great season of the Righteous Gemstones. The range of emotions I felt watching this episode were overwhelming as I felt laughter, shock, horror, and excitement at the same time on multiple occasions. The stakes this season were so much higher when the Gemstones had to take on cold blooded killers threatening their lives and their church. The mystery aspect this season also brought out some real genius along with extremely funny writing from Danny McBride and the crew. John, Danny, Edi, and Adam: thank you so much for making me laugh and keeping me surprised every episode. PRAISE BE TO HE!
Succession (2018)
One of the greatest shows to ever exist
If you're looking for a show with performances that are captivating, funny, and masterful: look no further than Succession. All of the actors in this show are amazing in their roles and really highlight how fantastic the screenplay is. Jeremy Strong deserves at least a Golden Globe and at least 5 Emmy's.
Succession: All the Bells Say (2021)
HEARTPOUNDING MASTERPIECE - SEASON 3 FINALE
I am shaking as I write this. The writing in this show may be some of the best of all-time. Nothing will prepare you for what's coming in the Third Season Finale. Everything from the performances, writing, cinematography, and the locations are outstanding and have no doubt they will all get Emmys from this episode and this season (especially Jeremy Strong, Matthew Mcfayden). The only disappointment I have is that I have to wait for the next season.
The White Lotus: Departures (2021)
Jaw Dropping Finale
Very excited that they announced they're turning the series into an anthology series for the future with new location/cast. I had so many guesses as to who would end up dying and why throughout the six episodes and when the big reveal came I was absolutely stunned.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
Spiral: The original Saw you remember and Saw like you've never seen
First off, I've been a fan of the Saw franchise since 2009. Ever since I've probably seen each one of them at least a few times. So when I heard about this film in February 2020 I got super pumped for Spiral. That was until it's inevitable delay to May 2021. I still did not give up hope. I knew they would come up with an amazing story that would satisfy Saw fans and possibly invite new fans to the franchise.
That's brings up to May 13th, 2021. One year later. Was it worth the wait? The short answer: HELL YES!!
It is one of the best Saw movies in the franchise. Top 3 easily in my opinion. Darren Lynn Bousman did an amazing job directing this one after Saw II, III, and IV. The atmosphere in this film was great with the shades of yellows and blues in the frame were a nice change in pace from what we're used to. The story was fantastic. Chris Rock holds his own in a horror/thriller movie so hopefully that kills any doubt you had that a comedic actor such as himself couldn't make this work.
Don't get me wrong, while this movie looks and feels like a Saw movie, it stands apart in many ways. This is very much inspired by Se7en especially when dealing with the aftermath of the victims. The buddy cop element is present as well giving a new way for the franchise to add some depth to its characters. Chris Rock and Max Minghella play well together as Zeke and William respectively, bouncing banter off each other making for some funny comedic moments.
The traps were simple and brutal just the way the original Saw was although much more bloody and graphic. Not over the top like some of the last few Saw movies. The concepts behind them were very inventive and added more purpose to the story even. So if you're a gore fan there's plenty for you to marvel at.
There's plenty more I can say about how great this movie was. It is Saw like you remember with an extra Se7en-inspired heart. I cannot recommend this movie more. Congratulations to Chris Rock, Max Minghella, Samuel Jackson, Marisa Nichols, and Darren Lynn Bousman. Can't wait to see it again soon!
Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)
Fast-paced action with loads of humor- Awesome!!!
I had the privilege of seeing this at an advanced screening and I was already looking forward to seeing this film and it exceeded all my expectations. Knowing that this film was directed by Matthew Vaughn(Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class) I had a pretty good idea that this film was going to be really good. If you love fast-paced, stylish, humorous, and all around awesome flicks, then this is a definite must see! The action was amazing and I really loved watching Colin Firth kick some ass! Samuel L. Jackson was very fun to watch as a villain as well. I don't think I've had that much fun watching a film in a really long time. The way the creators put a different spin on the superhero genre in Kick-Ass, was very much how they put a spin on the Spy movie genre in Kingsman: The Secret Service. I can guarantee a film like this won't win any major awards but I can guarantee that you will have an entertaining time with this film. Must see 10/10
Oldboy (2013)
Better than it gets credit for
I'm gonna be up front and honest. I've never seen a Spike Lee film and I've never seen the original. Knowing that the original had such high acclaim this film had huge shoes to fill. People keep saying that this film is unnecessary which is stupid because most films that are made today are unnecessary, they obviously wanted to put a new look on an acclaimed Korean story and I appreciate that. The story was very interesting and kept me guessing throughout its entirety. Josh Brolin is a great American actor who pulled off his role as Joe really well. The antagonist was kind of a joke, his attitude throughout was so fake. The twist was just crazy and I couldn't have ever seen that coming and I don't think anyone would've unless you've seen the original already. So honestly if I had to commend anything it would be Josh Brolin and his performance because he played it off so well. In conclusion I liked this film, it was a good hour and 45 minutes of entertainment and I didn't based everything off the fact that its a remake and its directed by Spike Lee. I mean the point of seeing a movie is to be entertained by it because it is a form of entertainment, I understand if you just thought it was just boring, but giving it a poor review because it can't match the standards of the original is just silly, be honest and stop comparing.
Prisoners (2013)
Prisoners: A dark, disturbing, and twisted film
Prisoners is definitely by far one of the best crime thrillers of our generation. It is a very dark environment this film takes place in and the atmosphere is one that is cold and shocking. It attacks your core on a personal level by trying to put you in the characters' shoes, would you have done what Keller(Hugh Jackman) did to try and find his daughter, is one of the huge questions director Denis Villeneuve tries to emphasize on you and throughout you contemplate whether or not it was, which is what really got me on this film. The acting by the two leads is superb, by far my favorite Hugh Jackman role, and Jake Gyllenhaal plays the role like he has done it many times. I must say that the rest of the characters didn't really place their importance in this film besides Paul Dano, and I didn't want it to end the way it did. All in all this film was really enjoyable to watch, I'd suggest going to see this in theaters.
Kick-Ass 2 (2013)
Great film except not as great as its predecessor
Kick-Ass 2 was definitely a film for the fans, if you aren't familiar with the Kick-Ass series then this movie wouldn't be for you. Having said that I am a fan of the comics and this movie was awesome. The fight scenes were crazy and Hit-Girl always runs the show. I hate that the critic scores are low but I honestly kind of figured they would be and I see why they made it so low, to a film's core this film wouldn't be looked at as a masterpiece, and they couldn't exactly retain the same shock factor the first one had because Hit-Girl was only 11 or 12 years old in it. But all things aside this was a pretty entertaining film and I think most people would really enjoy it.
