I Am Legend (2007)
Really great acting from Smith...
This film is massively reminiscent of 28 Days and 28 Weeks Later. It was good, but it has been done before.
Smith, however really surprised me here. I have been a fan of Smith for a long time but up until now, he hasn't really fit the bill for me as an actor.
Upon asking one of the ushers in the cinema what she thought of Smith's performance, she said: "Look at his eyes".
This was mostly prominent in the scene where his dog gets infected and he has to kill her.
I did, and he broke my heart. If for nothing else, watch this for Smith.
Call Me Claus (2001)
Beautiful....!
I think it should've been released into cinemas rather than made for TV...instead, this year - we got Elf! What's with that?
Although this film is rather slow paced, it's funny in all the right places and without trying too hard.
A heartwarming (sometimes heart wrenching) story that includes a fantastic cast. Whoopi Goldberg (great as ever in her role as Lucy Cullins), Nigel Hawthorne (as the most convincing Santa Claus I have ever had the honour of seeing in a movie) and Victor Garber (in a wickedly comical role!).
I watched it for the first time this morning and I want to watch it again and again and again!
The Deep End of the Ocean (1999)
The only thing that made this movie worth the time of day was Whoopi...
This movie should've been touching, heartwarming, tearjerkable (is that a word? hmmm!) but it wasn't. If anything, I think that the Lifetime channel would've turned this hunk of crap down.
As I said above, Whoopi is the only thing worth watching in it. Although I will add that for some reason the script had a random reference to her characters (Candy Bliss) sexuality which had absolutely nothing to do with the plot (In the words of Kenan and Kel: WHY!?). Michelle Pheiffer is totally wasted (at least, she acts wasted) and the other members of the cast blatantly sucked.
Cinderella (1997)
Fantastic!
This is one to watch. While it may not quite be up there with the Rodgers & Hammerstein greats such as OKLAHOMA!, South Pacific and The Sound Of Music, it still comes pretty close in a post modernist sort of way.
The cast (Brandy, Paolo Montalban, Victor Garber, Whitney Houston, Whoopi Goldberg, Jason Alexander, Bernadette Peters....) are second to none and all do a splendid job of portraying their characters in this timeless classic.
Although I'd say it's just the perfect length of time, I find myself wanting more every time I watch it.
For anyone who hasn't watched it, I highly recommend it. It's perfect for people of all ages and ideal for the "young at heart".
3 Men and a Little Lady (1990)
Great follow up to Great original...
I don't honestly understand why this film was panned so severely! It may not be a masterpiece as such but it certainly was worth the time of day.
And for the people that are getting so serious about the England v. America thing: I'm English too and happen to find the stereotypes displayed in this film hilarious. It isn't meant as a direct offence, but merely light hearted fun.
Also the "3 men" are fantastic again in their roles. Nancy Travis does a great job and has more chance in this film to show what she's got! Christopher Cazenove does a great job of being completely unlikeable and Fiona Shaw is AMAZING!
A great film and to anyone who hasen't watched it already - please do! You won't regret it.
Bad Boys II (2003)
Not as good as the first, but good!
OK, so we waited 8 years for a sequel to what would probably be one of the best cult films of the 90's.
An equal amount of action, gags, curse words and car chases. Slimmer plot, but action sequences make up for it.
Martin and Will are magic!!
