Lucio (2007)

Bricks and traveller's cheques.
24 September 2007
Lucio is a great documentary about a great man: the movie is just as passionate, inspiring and honest as the person it is based on. Saying more would be spoiling the fun of getting to know the incredible life of a bricklayer from Navarre, but seeing this guy challenge (and eventually defeat) the most powerful bank in the world is a delightful experience for the anarchist we all have inside. It is really hard to believe that such a good story had not been told before: Lucio Urtubia overcomes Frank Abagnale Jr. in charisma and authenticity, making 'Lucio the movie' a more rewarding film than 'Catch me if you can'. Obviously, Abagnale/Spielberg were in it for the money, while you can see that Urtubia/Arregi/Goenaga have a much higher aim. The movie is technically brilliant, and the music, the graphic design and the editing are all outstanding. A must see, if you want to get a new perspective on life, bricklayers and traveller's cheques.

Overrated

This must be one of the most overrated Spanish films in history. Its lack of subtlety and complexity and its total political correction make it really childish, with only good/bad characters. The world is just not like this, and good movies show complex characters with opposite impulses, dilemmas, etc. However, what I HATE most about this film is Bola's friend's father. The director tries to teach us a good lesson: tattoo artists with shaved heads are not always bad guys, in fact they can be better than the average looking dad (wow, this is like... philosophy, or something). Thank you, Achero. I'll propose you for the Nobel prize of literature.

Don't lose your time (and patience).

I watched this movie mainly due to the location: I'm currently living in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas (Southwest of Mexico), and I was curious about seeing the town on screen. I didn't expect a great film, as I thought it'd be an average commercial product. What a mistake.

It is much worse than what the 4.7 rating could make you think. Acting, plot, cinematography, dialogues, are all totally lame, and there is nothing -nothing- to like in the whole movie. Not a single minute. There is nothing scary or exciting, not even interesting. It is really hard for me to believe that the movie actually made it to cinema screens.

Definitely, one of the worst and most boring films I've seen in years.

Rubbish

Just having seen a couple of episodes of the series (even if I COULD NOT see them complete) was enough to realize that this is one of the worst series ever made. Specially the actors' performances and the dialogues impressed me for their childishness and their extremely poor quality.

Any amateur could do it MUCH better. It is SO bad, that first I thought I was watching a parody. I was not.

Why does the PUBLIC TV create something like this and, what is even worse, why the hell does it have such a huge success? It is just another proof: our World is sick. And may die soon, if we follow this path.

Pathetic.

And do not forget that they are already threatening with a cinema version.

have i seen the same film?

I completely disagree with both the opinions I have read and the average mark given to the film. I believe it is a highly original and funny comedy, with good acting (well, maybe Nicole just plays herself on the film) and a great atmosphere. I saw it quite a long time ago, so I cannot remember too well why I liked it so much, but the CHARACTERS of Suzanne (the shark: deadly, cold and greedy) by Nicole Kidman, Larry (innocent, catholic, primary and with really bad taste, but really in love with Suzanne-Nicole) by Matt Dillon and Jimmy (even more primary, slightly retarded, a tool for Suzanne's ambitious dreams) by a magnificent Joaquim Phoenix (his best role so far) will stay in my film memory forever. Watch it and judge for yourself. You'll have a laugh. And maybe a tear. I am sure you'll be touched by this extremely acid comedy.
